Another month done folks Grin a quarter of the way through the year.

I thought we could try something different this time, the original list looks a little redundant. So I thought we could all post our top five earners from the last few months.

For me, in no particular order:

  1. Leapforce.
  2. Crisp Thinking
  3. Angelfish
  4. Quidco
  5. MobileXpression (bloody love this passive one!)

What're yours?

Yikes been waiting for appen since end of January wonder what they’re looking for??

FloofenHoofen · 06/04/2019 16:24

Where that Otterses? I've had a look under my languages but can't see a language offer anywhere.

mydogisthebest · 06/04/2019 17:52

I haven't been properly accepted for appen although I have been waiting since February.

They have though sent through a job which is recording phrases. It says it should take 180 minutes. I started it but you have to make a phrase, record it and then type it. There are 800 odd phrases!

I would not mind so much if I could do it on my laptop but on my phone it will take hours typing the phrases in.

Is that the sort of thing all their jobs entail?

Tohaveandtohold · 06/04/2019 22:21

Hi all, I would like to join in too. I’m currently on maternity leave ( just getting maternity allowance) so we’re looking for ways of making more money as I’m kind of free most days.
I signed up for prolific on Monday but I’ve only made £8.
I signed up for dosh on Thursday and made £14 already.
I also registered for Appen and I got an email about the job for recording phrases. Now here’s my question, if I work for Appen, do you think this can have an impact on my maternity allowance payment. I’m not sure of which jobs I can do. Can anyone help

Misskitty86 · 06/04/2019 22:28

Looking for a bit of advice for Respondent if anyone can maybe help? A lot of the projects say a laptop or computer is necessary to do the web cam chats however I've only got an iPad but I do have a separate keyboard for it - i did one project yesterday and used the iPad and it was fine (they knew I was using the iPad). I've been turned down for projects that I've qualified for when I've said I can only work on the iPad - is there any way they would know what I'm using? I usually have a load of available projects and today there is 0 - is this possibly to do with me qualifying for projects but then not being accepted due to not having a laptop? I'm new to this and was hoping this could be a new stream of income but it's not looking promising!

Thanks :)

Otterses · 07/04/2019 08:36

@Tohaveandtohold ugh, I bloody hated being on maternity allowance. Technically, you aren't supposed to earn anything else at all. The odd Appen task is liken to selling on eBay to be honest, as long as you aren't doing anything long term I wouldn't personally declare it. Same with cashback, I wouldn't (and didn't) declare that when I was on maternity leave as I figured it's money earned for money I'd have spent regardless. Depends on your moral compass on this one really.

@mydogisthebest You know what, I think I'm as determined as they come, but even I've given up on that one! The typing the transcript of what I said was killing my hand. Agree, would be a thousand times better on a laptop. Appen tasks are varied though - thankfully not all like this! It didn't seem worth it for £31.

OP posts:
mydogisthebest · 07/04/2019 09:12

Thanks for your reply Otterses. I really want to do work for appen but yesterday's task really disheartened me.

I only managed something like 20 recordings and typing of transcript. It took me quite a time and, like you, my hands were hurting. I really cannot type on a phone whereas a laptop is no problem (I was a secretary for around 30 years).

I just hope that me starting it and not continuing doesn't give a bad impression to appen.

Otterses · 07/04/2019 09:42

@mydogisthebest don't be disheartened! There's still loads of great opportunities out there Grin

Personally, I'd look at remote market research opportunities via angelfish and respondent. Great rates of pay, very little work (generally!) and random enough that you would need to declare it as income as such.

Matched betting? It's not everyone's cup of tea, but 'winnings' aren't classed as income either.

Comping is also sometimes a good earnerGrin ... you know you want to join me in the losers club. You might win something amazing. Twitalicious is good, it means you can enter in one click. I without shame, will say I sometimes enter these on the toilet if I'm constipated wet wipe my phone after. That's how much effort needs to go into entering them, you can do it while you shit.

In case anyone is curious, I still haven't won anything 🤣

OP posts:
mydogisthebest · 07/04/2019 10:05

I have started matched betting. I have been doing it for about 3 weeks but not every day and very very slowly. I have made around £40 so not wonderful but I am happy to start with that and, hopefully, work up. I don't have too much money to start off with so that limits me too.

I go mad at comping for a week or so and then get bored and stop for ages. Have one a couple of things - one was 5 different books which, as I love books, I was happy with.

I joined Angelfish yesterday so will see what happens. Respondent I joined a few months ago but have not had any joy with it so far.

I really liked the sound of appen and was hoping it would be for me. It seems maybe not though.

Personally I think it seems silly to get people to do recordings and transcripts on a phone. Surely most people can type far quicker on a laptop? I would be ok doing it that way but 800 phrases on a phone! I can't believe that many people actually do it

Tohaveandtohold · 07/04/2019 10:12

Thank you for your response otterses. Thats really helpful

Otterses · 07/04/2019 10:34

Agreed @mydogisthebest - generally, they're like 30 phrases for $5 which isn't great, but certainly not as tedious as 800! I'd still keep an eye out for tasks that are less ridiculous than that one.

I'm jealous of your comping wins Envy I'm doing 30 a day.

That's great with the matched betting. Make sure you check for any cashback deals with your deposit. Quidco offer £20 CB for depositing £10 with betfair exchange for example. It can make it even more profitable Grin

I came across a really good list of market research companies the other day - I'll pop it on here for you (and everyone else) in a second.

A new one ! Waiting to hear back, but the reviews look great.

www.cloudworkers.company/en chat moderation - pay is per message, and ad hoc like Crisp.

Otterses, thanks for those links. I will look at them later as I have to walk my dogs now!

Yes I keep forgetting about joining bookmakers through a cashback site. I am using the Oddsmonkey training so I keep just clicking through their links. I could kick myself as I have lost out.

Appen have sent me an email with info about a job which should be 10 to 20 hours a week. You have to do a quiz first with almost 60 questions so I hope to do that later when I get back. I also have a £25 free bet to sort out.

reddA · 07/04/2019 12:18

Morning All :) I got offered the speaking thing with Appen too but I'd done a smaller task like that before and they didn't pass it so I decided not to even attempt this one - glad I didn't!

@otterses that last link looks interesting, although I've actually heard from Appen this morning about a 10-20 hr per week job, I haven't read through it properly yet though, it's not one I applied for and I have to take a test first, knowing how long they take to process anything, I'm not going to get my hopes up.

I've done okay with Crisp this week, I haven't done as much as I should but managed over £100 so I'm happy with that, I do need to get more into a routine though, I tend to do a bit then make a cuppa, do a bit more then put the hoover round, do a bit more then wash up..... I need to focus!! Blush

I've not really done much else this week other than surveys etc. Some Prolific ones are so random aren't they? They must be on something Confused

mydogisthebest · 07/04/2019 14:15

reddA, yes I found the fact that the speaking task with appen had to be passed offputting. No way was I going to put in all that effort and all that time to then find they did not pass it.

Otterses · 07/04/2019 16:43

£20!!!

My TV unit is shit. I used my comping twitter account to have a go at Wayfair who've finally sorted out return and given me a £20 voucher 🤣 I now understand why people shame companies publicly.

OP posts:
reddA · 07/04/2019 16:52

@otterses you don't have time to watch TV anyway Wink
@mydogisthebest when I did the other speaking task that was rejected there reasons were - Audio issues: loud background noise, mumbled speech, excessive volume changes, distorted audio, 0.5 second of silence before/after prompt not respected, not native speaker, not the same tone employed for each group of 5 prompts as written in AMR app, mispronunciation.
So I obviously changed into Chinese half way through, cannot speak basic english and don't have a handy recording studio to do the task - complete waste of my time Hmm

otterses · 07/04/2019 16:59

@reddA Grin buttttttt what if I win a big TV! I need somewhere to keep it.

My god Appen are bloody fussy Shock it's not like it pays well either!

OP posts:
reddA · 07/04/2019 17:02

I did win a big TV once so don't give up - it can happen! :)

Otterses · 07/04/2019 17:24

@reddA will you all stop rubbing in your comping wins Grin you lucky sods.

I have a new one for you all! I'm going to start myself this evening, and write a step by step guide. The best part is ... it's a GAME!

OP posts:
reddA · 07/04/2019 17:57

@otterses sounds intriguing and fun! :)

Numptysod · 07/04/2019 19:59

I wonder cause I put only available for 5 hours if that’s why I getting no work?

Keep getting surveys for $4 lol from appen global

reddA · 08/04/2019 09:35

@mydogisbest did you do your test yet? I just did the practice and I sucked big time so not getting my hopes up on this one! Blush

evaperonspoodle · 08/04/2019 09:41

Can I ask which of these options could I do from home as a job that would pay as close to NMW as possible? (Apart from matched betting)
