MLMs/ Network Marketing: Thread 45

Spongebobette · 05/12/2018 12:24

This is the 45th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, Monat, Stella and Dot, Tropic, various slimroast/weight loss coffee MLMs and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs.
The reality is that 97% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

When I was in Amway we were told about residual incomes, that this was something that you could put in your will so your beneficiaries could carry on receiving your bonus.
This (as we all now know) seems impossible as we have seen that it is only constant flogging of your dead horse business that even keeps it ticking over. No pushing, no income.
So, another lie.

Spongebobette · 08/12/2018 14:48

Oh they make a HUGE amount from product sales, @Bells.

The bots make a profit on each item they sell too, which begs the question; how much does each item cost to produce. VERY very little.

Correct me if I'm wrong Dora, but I believe certain 'attainments' (or merits or whatever they're called) do not get passed on, so you don't even 'inherit' the whole business that's been built up.

FranceTeam · 08/12/2018 18:22

So it’s not really residual income the same way as say royalties for a film or music production where you are guaranteed it for no extra effort?

I wonder if it is legal for them to describe it in such a way if that is the reality ?

Twentytwentyhindsight · 08/12/2018 18:58

I think Forever Living make a distinction between 'residual income' - the money a bot makes from the activities of their downline without having to do anything themselves and the business being 'willable' - i.e. it can be passed on if the bot dies.

Neither are really true, as bots have to constantly push and replenish their downlines to get any income from them, and the only thing you are 'willing' to the lucky inheritor is your place on the hamster wheel.

JasperRising · 08/12/2018 21:07

But then why is 'willable' thrown around as if it is somehow unique? If we take bots at their word that they own a small business owner then they are comparable to Jane who owns the local independent bakery. Now when Jane dies presumably she can pass her bakery on to her children otherwise we wouldn't have family businesses that run for generations. Maybe not in her will - I don't know how the legalities would work! - but her children could be given a business from which they would get an income if they work at it. Doesn't sound that different from the reality of an MLM willable business. Except that Jane is actually a small business owner.

Spongebobette · 08/12/2018 21:25

Quite.

If you look at Forever Living, the actual business is actually owned by one man and his son.

Everyone else is an unpaid rep

(Well OK there are some salaried staff but you know what I mean)

Derbybit hasn’t mentioned her Valentus Biz or crying over her fri-pay since the end of October. Wonder if she’s one of those being investigated?

Paddy1234 · 09/12/2018 09:41

Yes, family firm. To the extent the son controls the UK arm. Mr BP is nothing more than an employee not mentioned on overall accounts at all. They abuse the market and then will leave.
Why would they be worried about the UK? they have invested absolutely nothing here in real terms - a house (that can be sold) and a couple of staff that will be easily disposed of.

More guru insight from Wig - copied and pasted from www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/create-more-meaningful-conversations.html

Still if it suckers in a few more to invest the failing recycle bot who cares...

fitgirl26 · 09/12/2018 13:50

I see Wig's guru insight is accompanied by a photo of what appears to be a pink blob with eyes.

Charlie103 · 09/12/2018 17:10

So for those that remember. I said I had asked wig about her Bitcoin programme. It's literally a ponzi scheme. Will post screenshots below. My name was used under a fake account. I had to act a bit simple initially... Sorry about the amount of screenshots.

So make of those what you will. The company is Berlin Group Recycle bot. Literally about as ponzi as you can get!

Jasmin82 · 09/12/2018 17:48

Finally got the confidence up to email and cancel my account. Even that process is near impossible. You have to pick from a list what you're emailing them about and none of the options are to suspend/close your account as they actually tell you in the support section. So we'll see whether anything gets sorted by them. Chances are that it'll get ignored and the case closed after a couple of weeks as always invariably happens when they are asked a question they don't like.

CatherineCookson · 09/12/2018 18:01

Look for recycle bot - now what? On fb ;)

ChristianGreysAnatomy · 09/12/2018 18:14

Hi, I noticed a Tropic stall at my kids’ school Christmas fair, selling pretty hard. I want to send the head teacher some info and ask him to reconsider having this company selling via the school. Do you MLM -watchers have any Tropic-specific info? I googled but couldn’t see anything obvious.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 09/12/2018 18:15

Wow Charlie that is quite something. Did she reply to you?

Charlie103 · 09/12/2018 18:34

No. She's read it and not replied. Shock.
