Checked TIO to see if anyone had won and it's vanished!! Surely it isn't contentious 😂

Dinosaur sometimes I post in threads and they never appear on TIO it's so weird. This is one of them.

Well, I've just upped my bonds to £10k and have just now read about the cut in the amount of the different prizes (to bring the effective interest rate down 1%) from May, so far fewer chances of winning anything.

Poo.

SouthWestmom · 18/02/2020 19:51

I just read this I've just cashed in and am down to £1500 - not sure it's worth it anymore? Haven't won anything for about a year I think.

So, the big question: are Premium Bonds worth it?* In actual fact, the rate cut isn't likely to make a huge difference. We always thought they weren't worth it for most, and they're still not. On average luck (and most won't even reach this), if you don't pay tax on savings interest, putting your cash into savings is the better bet, as the returns are likely to be higher and come with a greater level of certainty.

I think instead of a 24500/1 chance of winning something, it's now a 26000/1 chance. So it was quite poor odds from the start. DH has, up til now, been lucky enough to win enough (he has £40000) to make it better than interest he'd get if he kept it in the bank. And there's always the chance of a win...
He views it as "You either win or you don't" and likes the (safe) gamble. So I think I'll keep mine in for now, but I'm not sure I'm too tempted to keep upping the amount I have.

leafygarden · 03/03/2020 07:45

I know that the win rate is going down in May - but just won £50 this month and £25 the previous 2 months on £14,000 savings - so definitely keeping going here

LuckyHedgehog · 03/03/2020 09:57

£75 for me and £50 each for DD and DS this month (all on approx. £40k holdings).

BarbaraofSeville · 03/03/2020 10:36

Nothing for me this month on just over £13k.

InMySpareTime · 03/03/2020 11:09

Nothing here on almost £20kSad

FAQs · 03/03/2020 20:04

Also nothing for me in this draw.

angorarabbit · 03/03/2020 22:16

2 x £25 for me on maximum holdings.

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 17:02

Dh has has holdings for roughly 5 months about 1500.

He's had 3 x, 25 wins.

I have 8 grand and I have zero.
Ironically he was v v sceptical and still is.

Dinosauraddict · 10/03/2020 20:58

This was the first month ever I didn't get anything. At all. I have maximum holdings...

InMySpareTime · 02/04/2020 06:19

Nothing again this month Sad

Dinosauraddict · 02/04/2020 07:29

£50 on maximum holdings - I'm happy with that (particularly as last month I got nothing). Smile

SouthWestmom · 02/04/2020 07:33

Finally! £25 after months . I've taken most of it now so am down to £1000. Am going to try to get to £10k (not the best time now obv) and then leave it.

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 02/04/2020 07:34

What is maximum holdings now? (Not that I'll ever get there)

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 02/04/2020 07:37

Max holdings is £50k

leafygarden · 02/04/2020 07:37

Nice one @Noeuf

I too have won £25 on around £15,000

The maximum you can have is £50,000 - might take me a little bit longer...

BarbaraofSeville · 02/04/2020 07:41

Nothing for me for the second month running. I wonder when they will reduce the payout rate to account for the recent emergency base rate drops? But then again, the government needs as much money as possible right now.

cptartapp · 02/04/2020 07:42

£25x2 for me on £25k and £25x3 for DH on similar holdings.
Something to make us smile amidst all this.

SouthWestmom · 02/04/2020 08:59

Thanks Leafy - I won't be saving that anything soon

It's funny - 'winning' £25 is so nice.

Rate reduction has been cancelled Grin https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/04/ns-i-cancels-planned-premium-bond-rate-cut-/?utmcontent=1587114308&utmmmedium=social&utmsource=facebook,twitter

Whatthefoxgoingon · 17/04/2020 17:45

I’m keeping my max holdings. It’s our easy access cash pot. Got £125 this month.

Dinosauraddict · 18/04/2020 12:10

Yeah I am too @Whatthefoxgoingon - although I only got £50 this month.

InMySpareTime · 02/05/2020 05:55

Nothing again this month, on £19k 😞
