I love reading and now that DS can entertain himself for a while trashing my lounge is 8 mo I am finally getting back into the swing of things. But I always read the same kind of books and so would love to have something different sprung on me!

Here's the basics of how it works (thank you Flamesparrow)

How it works

Mine. Thanks very much - I brought my book in with me to post today so will try to get to the post office this afternoon, such a lovely afternoon I think a stroll outside is called for (am at work)

artifarti · 29/05/2009 17:18

We are now all present and correct.

Jiffy-bags at the ready!

Don't forget to write your name in the front and I think we said no more than £2 on the chocolate front.

Someone has suggested we write a review of the book and send it on with the book. Or we can discuss online. What's the feeling?

Exciting, isn't it?! [really should get out more emoticon]

whinegums · 29/05/2009 17:43

Ooh, here we go!

I'm afraid I wouldn't have a chance to write a book review before sending - I'd rather discuss online.

artifarti · 29/05/2009 17:54

I have posted a thread for my book in this section, along the lines of how the other groups do it. I have tried not to include any spoilers but I think the point is that anyone can now go and post what they like. So, if you don't want to read any spoilers for a book you haven't received yet, don't go to a thread until you've read the book.

Hope that makes sense! If you can all start a thread for your book, that would be great.

MrsMuddle · 30/05/2009 00:24

I've failed at the first hurdle - forgot to write my name in the front! Maybe Lolaladybird would be kind enough to do it for me.

LolaLadybird · 30/05/2009 21:30

Hi Mrs Muddle - book and choc safely received! Have had a busy few days and had forgotten that you would be posting early so it's arrival was a complete surprise - opened it with an equally intrigued DH looking over my shoulder!

Frantically trying to finish re-reading my own book choice before posting on Monday (realised v late in the day that I would need to re-read to refresh my memory for purposes of enlightened discussion!) but then looking forward to starting on MM's book. Strangely I suspect the chocolate may get started before the book !

LolaLadybird · 30/05/2009 21:34

By the way, I would also prefer discussing online to writing a review. Just reminds me slightly of English Lit lessons from schooldays ... loved the reading, found the review writing as dreary as hell. But that shouldn't put off anyone that does want to ...

Dysgu · 31/05/2009 21:22

Have posted my book (easier to do on Saturday when DP can manage have DCs to avoid long post office queue).

It was fun choosing the chocolate so will be interested in knowing what you think of that as well as the book PieceNharmoknee!

Just waiting to see what aristocat as selected (waiting eagerly for postman emoticon)

Dysgu · 31/05/2009 21:23

Oh and yes, I would prefer to discuss online too. I have already set up a thread with my name under Of Mice and Maltesers.

artifarti · 01/06/2009 08:24

POSTING DAY!!!

whinegums · 01/06/2009 10:51

Just back from the post office! Stickylittlefingers, hope the book and chocolate meets your approval. BTW, I was in your neck of the woods last week, my mum lives there.

Itsjustafleshwound · 01/06/2009 11:25

Pooter - book (and chocolate!) was posted on Saturday - it should arrive soon..

Enjoy!

(Would also like to add my vote to the "discuss the book online" idea)

artifarti · 01/06/2009 11:51

Duly posted, aristocat. Sorry about the naff cover but you know what they say - "Don't judge a book etc...."

OP posts:
LadyBee · 01/06/2009 14:06

I posted mine on Saturday and have just read the thread and realised I forgot to put my name in the book.
I'm posting to Flyingmonkey - would you mind writing my name in the book please? I hope you like it, if not the book then the chocolate
I'm also a 'discuss the book online' person, I'll set up a thread soon - think I'll post some questions/thoughts about it to start things off.

aristocat · 01/06/2009 14:17

have posted to dysgu hope you enjoy both book and chocolate.

pooter · 01/06/2009 14:33

FlyingMonkey · 01/06/2009 15:00

Hi ladies. Well I've started my thread with a couple of thoughts on the book but didn't want to give too much away. I'm off to post it to Maria2007 now with a brief detour to Tesco to purchase some chocolate!

Ladybee - can't wait to see what you've chosen! I won't forgot to pencil your name in the front of the book.

LolaLadybird · 01/06/2009 15:51

itsjustafleshwound - book and choccie posted today . Will start a thread later.

MrsMuddle · 01/06/2009 18:53

Stickylittlefingers, yours arrived today, and I am so excited! I ripped open the parcel like a child. I'm delighted that I've not read the book, and the choclolate is half eaten already looks delicious.

I won't be starting till later in the month, because I've got one to finish for my real life book group, but I'll be sure to post on your thread when I've read it.

Thanks.

muddleduck · 02/06/2009 08:43

Hi Pooter.
I can't wait! My chocolate buying was also from the co-op . I will come and join you on your thread once I've read the book.

LadyBee - I took your book to the post office on saturday so it should be with you shortly. Fingers crossed

artifarti · 02/06/2009 08:51

[waiting expectantly by the door, tapping foot and drooling impatiently...]

OP posts:
aristocat · 02/06/2009 12:34

arti chocolate and book just arrived.

cant wait to get started on both of them!!!
many thanks

artifarti · 02/06/2009 13:19

Maria2007 - Book and chocolate just snatched out of postie's hand. Both look excellent, thank you. The only problem is that the book looks right up DP's street and so I will have to stop him snaffling it...

OP posts:
Dysgu · 02/06/2009 15:37

aristocat book and chocolate was waiting for me when I got back from the hairdressers. So, new hairstyle, book AND chocolate - what more could a girl ask for.

First thought was that I had read the book before as it is by one of my favourite authors - but having read the first bit I think maybe I haven't read this one. Is a bit different from the others.

And have never even seen that chocolate before... roll on the kids going to bed!

Maria2007 · 02/06/2009 15:38

OK: FlyingMonkey, book & chocolate arrived in the post today Both look lovely! Thanks so much...

Artifarti: Really glad to hear my packet arrived safe & sound! Told you I have my doubts about the book... It's actually a really interesting / well written one. However, once I put it in the post, I remembered at least 10 other books which I would have preferred to send. But then, as DP told me, whichever book I chose to send, there would always be others...

Anyway. Not sure what we're doing now? I'm off to look at the book swap general thread to see what the others are doing!

Really excited that we're starting... and just to get this straight: on july 1 we send the book we have- e.g. I send FlyingMonkey's book) to the next person on the list, again with a bar of chocolate? and so that way we each end up reading everyone's books? is that the whole idea? (how daft can I be, I wonder... ).
