I love reading and now that DS can entertain himself for a while trashing my lounge is 8 mo I am finally getting back into the swing of things. But I always read the same kind of books and so would love to have something different sprung on me!

Here's the basics of how it works (thank you Flamesparrow)

How it works

arti did you get the next book from Maria or has it gone AWOL?
glad you had a good holiday and are somewhat rested
the new cycle will need a new thread - this one is almost full......

DS is 8 yo today

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 30/05/2010 21:55

Hello, how are you all? Glad aristo and arti liked my book. I've got the next one ready to post on Tuesday - I left it at work on Friday, forgetting it's a Bank Hol tomorrow. Doh.

Happy Birthday to your DS aristocat.

Thinking about the next choice, but I haven't decided yet.

stickylittlefingers · 01/06/2010 13:49

Hello - am I allowed a few days grace? This has been a busy month and I've got a book with lots of words in it... But I think only a couple days' more reading so long as people don't talk to me on the train and I totally ignore DP's attempts to initiate conversation... (so what's new).

Hoorah it's summer! It's cold, raining, I have a chesty cough and a bunged up nose. Please can I emigrate?

artifarti · 01/06/2010 19:44

aristocat - Maria has emailed to say she is very behind with the books but is planning to send me a big parcel of chocolate books soon so I will crack on with it them as quick as I can.

Hope your DS had a nice birthday!

arti thats fine just let me know when you are posting to me please

AgentProvocateur · 01/06/2010 20:56

slf no hurry, keep reading and post it when you're ready. But I go on holiday on 2 July, so it would be really helpful if you could post next month's book a couple of days early so I can take it with me.

LolaLadybird · 01/06/2010 22:06

AgentP - thanks for book and choc which arrived last week. There was way too much interest from DH and the DC's when they clocked the chocolate so it got hidden relocated pretty quickly! Hope you had a good weekend away.

Itsjusta - have parcelled yours up this evening ready for posting tomorrow so hopefully with you by Friday.

stickylittlefingers · 02/06/2010 13:07

AP thanks! And will do with the next book. I don't have it yet, so not sure whether it's a biggie or not...

Itsjustafleshwound · 02/06/2010 16:37

So autobiographies are allowed within reason??? This really throws a spanner into choosing my 'shortlist' .... I think my DH is going to ban me from the Amazon website !! As you can guess, this is no eeny, meeny, miny, mo decision ....

Thanks again Arti for doing all the arranging - I really do enjoy my monthly book and chocolate !

LolaLadybird · 03/06/2010 21:32

Itsjusta - when your book arrives, can you please remind me whose it is. Difficult to post on the right thread when I didn't make a note of which one it is (doh!).

Dysgu · 03/06/2010 23:54

Hello all - PistachioLemon I posted your book (and chocolate) today. DD1 chose the chocolate so hoe it is okay - DD1 would happily eat it!

Aristocat DD1 also enjoyed the chocolate that you sent with the last book! I have had to put it up on a higher shelf so she can't reach what is left if it.

I have started reading this month's book already too - although I think I currently have about 4 books on the go.

As for selecting my next book - oh dear - I am waiting for some inspiration. I suggested something to a friend as a possible and she hated it so back to the drawing board...or book shelf... for me. Still, another month so find something.

Hope all are well and enjoying the early days of summer. Although lots of the country seems to be wet - we have had lots of lovely sunshine so lots of time at the beach.

artifarti · 04/06/2010 12:59

aristocat - Maria has sent 3 books today (can't quite work out whose) so I will get going as soon as they hit the doormat. Three lots of chocolate too - just as I start my diet, oh dear...

I thought I'd definitely chosen the next book but the one I'm reading now is good and then I remembered another one. At least I have a shortlist!

Hope everyone is enjoying the sun.

arti three!!!! just send me the next one as and when you can. i thought there were only 2 books to read?

wow ..... Maria must be really busy

its easier for me to read when DCs are back at school anyway - we are busy having lots of picnics ATM and enjoying the school hols

happy reading

artifarti · 05/06/2010 10:17

The books have arrived! (poshwellies', Dysgu's and aristocat's) aristocat - the good news for you is that I have already read the next one (posh's) so I will post it straight on today.

Three bars of chocolate!

Hi,

I'm interested in joining you ladies. I've read 'how it works'. What happens next?

artifarti · 06/06/2010 21:17

Hi johnworf, we've been going for quite a while now and currently all our books are going round and round (IYSWIM). But we could include you in the next round if everyone is happy to do so - guys?

Perhaps tell us what kind of books you like reading and we can tell you whether you'd enjoy our books or not.

OP posts:
aristocat · 06/06/2010 22:00

arti
i have no hesitation to let johnworf in the next circle. we regularly 'chat' on a 40+ thread and she is very nice

artifarti · 06/06/2010 22:05

Ooooh, a reference johnworf - even better!

aristo - you should get the book tomorrow (or Tuesday if posties are being rubbish).

OP posts:
johnworf · 06/06/2010 22:16

Hi and thanks arti. Thanks also to my fellow 40+ room mate aristo for the reference

The books I like are historical, sci-fi, classics, psychological thrillers/murders, funny and even chick lit. Pretty much anything.

I'm currently reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (prolly the only person in the world not to have read it yet!), but before that I read One Day by David Nicholls and the one before that was Giles Kristian second installment in the viking Raven series 'Sons of Thunder'.

aristocat · 06/06/2010 22:25

we are due to start the circle again in August ...... everyone is currently trying to choose a suitable book

artifarti · 06/06/2010 22:30

No, I am the only person not have read the Dragon Tattoo business! Even my FIL is reading it and he normally only reads things with spitfires in it. I must get round to it...

We have had some great books in the last year - not sure how I would 'classify' them but I suppose 'literary fiction'. On July 1 I will be posting a complete list of all the books that have been chosen (so that people can vote for their favourite!) but our only rules really are:

No chicklit
No abuse memoir type stuff
No horror
No hardbacks

The new posting round will start on August 1 and you have until July 10 to think of a book. Keep watching this thread and I'll let you know what to do (or scroll a few messages up for the basics)

(Did you like One Day? Lots of my RL Book Club did but it got on my nerves, I seem to remember. Thought Dexter was a bit of an A-hole.)

Anyway, you're in, unless anyone strongly objects in the next few days.

BTW, do you know about the chocolate rule?...

OP posts:
johnworf · 07/06/2010 08:19

Do I send chocolate with the book? What sort is it or is it pot luck?

PistachioLemon · 07/06/2010 21:50

Dygsu I've been away for the weekend and got home to a book and yummy chocolate - DD1 clearly has great taste in chocolate. Unfortuantely DH already munched his way through half of it while my back was turned.

Arti thanks for clarifying the whens wheres and hows. I shall put my thinking cap on.

Whinegums so sorry, I'm a little behind - mainly because I was away and didn't get myself organised. I shall do my very best to put your book in the post in the morning along with chocolate but if I don't make it into work (have a horrible cold) then it'll be the next day. Hope that's okay.

PistachioLemon · 07/06/2010 21:51

Oh, and I haven't read the Dragon Tattoo books either!

aristocat · 08/06/2010 10:13

arti book has arrived and i will start today, thank you
