I love reading and now that DS can entertain himself for a while trashing my lounge is 8 mo I am finally getting back into the swing of things. But I always read the same kind of books and so would love to have something different sprung on me!

Here's the basics of how it works (thank you Flamesparrow)

How it works

bleugh - i mean thankyou

artifarti · 01/07/2009 13:28

Maria2007 - the book and choc just arrived - hurray! Don't worry, you didn't spoilt the surprise , I'm way too thick since having DS and didn't think about it for a minute!

FlyingMonkey - I have been wanting to read this book so much that it is on the top of my to read list. I was hoping I'd be able to squeeze it in around Book Swap and Club books this month, but now I can read it at my leisure (when I say 'leisure' I obviously mean for 10 minutes a day when I can persuade DS to lie down long enough to nap, ho-hum)

Pooter: CONGRATULATIONS! Fantastic news! Hope you're soon feeling much better...

Arti: the book is really good, and an easy read too (by that I mean it's thoroughly enjoyable to read). But I'll say no more!! And by the way, as for reading, do you manage to do any reading when your DS is playing in his room? What I usually do is sit with him on the floor, him playing (most of the time) with his toys, me reading ! Obviously, being the fantastic mother I am, I stop often to interact with him blah blah blah () but basically I manage to do loaaaaads of reading this way. I even read out loud to him often- at the moment I'm reading him 'the little stranger'- and he seems to love it!! Sometimes though DS doesn't let me read & wants to grab the book but that doesn't happen all the time.

artifarti · 01/07/2009 14:57

Maria2007 - hahahahahaha at the notion of doing any reading whilst DS is awake. He has a mountain of toys but if I am there only wants to jump on me and bite me play with his funny mummy. I have finally got him to take a nap this afternoon but before that he had a big tantrum because I wouldn't let him have the A-Z I was looking it. A book wouldn't last five minutes with him in the same room.

Right, off to read before the little bugger darling wakes up.

Yes, well, I have to admit that DS has damaged / torn / spit on quite a few of my books!! For example, he unfortunately tore out 2 pages of my lovely copy of 'Rebecca'... . He also does what you describe, i.e. wants to sit on my lap & take my book etc, but I've been persistent & he does manage to spend quite a bit of time playing with his toys (until he remembers he wants to bite me / tickle me / sit on my lap / whatever). And so the thing goes.

LadyBee · 01/07/2009 23:36

My DS takes our books off the shelves and leaves through them thoughtfully before discarding and going to select another. Today's offerings were 'Books in the Digital Age', a Neil Gaiman novel, and an art book on Van Gogh..all rejected for 'Oh Dear!' which he carried to me saying 'this? this? this?' It's very sweet, but his interest in books also means there's absolutely no chance to read my own while he's awake unless there's another person in the room.

I'm going to post my book tomorrow, sorry - just couldn't get chocolate/envelope/book and myself all together at a post office today.

Finished the book just in time as well! I'm looking forward to seeing how the next reader likes it

Pooter - congratulations! That's wonderful news. I thoroughly recommend M&S dark chocolate and ginger biscuits if you haven't already discovered them. They're medicinal, honestly (this means you don't need to share!)

stickylittlefingers · 02/07/2009 09:13

Congratulations Pooter!

Book went sailing off to its next destination yesterday... It's a good job I'm not at home or I might be hopping around the letterbox panting like a springer spaniel. It is so nice having books sent (with no bill from Amazon to follow it up!)...

And all your stories of not being able to read make me almost glad of my commuting. It is good reading time (except when annoying Phd students discuss their very tedious dissertations loudly all the way home. Sigh.

poshwellies · 02/07/2009 13:03

I now have artifarti's book - and chocolate from aristocat. Many thanks - have to admit that I have already nibbled the chocolate!

I have been reading this morning to finish the book I had started 'the chocolate run' by Doroty Koomson, so that I can make a start on this new book.

Strangely, DP had heard of the story and recommends that I read both. I was rather taken aback by this knowledge until he told me he had the films. Won't say any more here but it seems like a very 'grown up' book.

Good timing, DD2 has just woken up - she had a lovely long nap this morning - oh she's just dozing again and considering whether to wake up properly! I have just finished my other book so now I can plan to start this one later.

As for reading when DD1 and DD2 are around. DD1 is at the CM right now but she does like to take my books out of my hands, 'read it herself' and then put it down so that I lose my place!

Congratulations to pooter - a Christmas baby then?

Sent my book and chocolate to poshwellies on Tuesday - hope it has arrived.

poshwellies · 02/07/2009 13:12
