I love reading and now that DS can entertain himself for a while trashing my lounge is 8 mo I am finally getting back into the swing of things. But I always read the same kind of books and so would love to have something different sprung on me!

Here's the basics of how it works (thank you Flamesparrow)

How it works

Amazing that we can all read so quickly with these pesky children!

Currently reading The Accidental (Ali Smith), which isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Also recently read The Road (Cormac MacCarthy), which was v good indeed.

Not only am I counting down to 1 July, I already have the book in the envelope with a bar of chocolate already to go... People often do tell me to get out more, tho!

Maria2007 · 16/06/2009 22:57

Am also counting down to the 1st of July. FlyingMonkey's book is absolutely brilliant, funny & even laugh-out-loud at parts (and I've heard it brings on the tears later on). Am reading it manically at the moment. Loving it.

FlyingMonkey · 17/06/2009 10:07

I've finished LadyBee's book and really enjoyed it, contrary to my expectations. Am trying to marshall some thoughts to post on her thread.

Currently reading 'Beyond Black' by Hilary Mantel. It's well written but I'm halfway through and am getting a bit bored. I don't really care about any of the characters and the plot seems to be meandering along. I hope it picks up pace soon.

Itsjustafleshwound · 17/06/2009 14:08

Really intrigued to find out what July has in store for me ...

whinegums · 19/06/2009 22:51

Hello all, I must admit I haven't started the book yet... I have almost finished re-reading my own book, and then I'll get on to it! Poshwellies, have you started a thread for it, I couldn't see one?

Dysgu · 21/06/2009 15:58

Glad my book arrived with you poshwellies.

Thanks for the suggestions for other reading - I do enjoy James Patterson and have read most of his stuff. Alex Cross and Ladies Murder Club. I also enjoy Jonathan Kellerman - he writes in a similar vein but main character is psychologist who assists police.

Have read lots of Tess Geristen(sp?) too. I do like a good thriller and gory is fine. Kathy Reichs is a good read - she is the real BONES forensic anthropologist.

I too am eagerly awaiting the next book through the post. I am keeping my eyes open for suitable chocolate too but have not made the purchase yet.

LadyBee · 22/06/2009 21:47

Hi all, sorry I haven't been around much life got a bit crazy recently . God I'm soooo relieved that FlyingMonkey didn't hate my choice, I've been feeling really guilty about it since reading my first as it's so not in the same league. I'm not reading mine anywhere as fast as you lot but am enjoying it, and I'm sure lots of you will too.
Think I'll head upstairs for an early night and take the book with me - just realised how close the end of the month is!

Maria2007 · 23/06/2009 14:11

OK have almost finished mine & it's had me in tears Brilliant read... I've liked it so much that I've just ordered it new through Amazon.

Like LadyBee, I'm now seriously regretting my choice of book, but what can we do, can't be changed now!

Can't wait for July 1 & my new book & choc.

Question: do we choose a new type of choc each month? I think it would be nice to try doing that. Also. Who do we send to next artifarti? The same people again? Or a different person?

artifarti · 23/06/2009 14:19

Hi Maria - send this month's book to the same person as last time (i.e. you send to me again) I was actually considering theming my chocolate choices around the book each time but then I have far too much time on my hands. BTW, your book was great so don't fret about your choice at all.

Oops I haven't started a thread for my book yet, will sort that later (am currently nursing a broken nose and a wisdom tooth that has decided to appear at the age of 33 ).
Looking forward to the next book to take my mind of my injuries

Itsjustafleshwound · 24/06/2009 14:35

pooter - can I bend the rules and ask if I can post your book (and Choccie ) later this week ?? Next week is going to be a bit of a doozy for me...

muddleduck · 24/06/2009 21:52

Hi LadyBee
Good to hear from you - hope you're getting on ok with my book.
Look forward to finding out what you think of it.

Maria2007 · 26/06/2009 10:08

Well... I've finished my book! It was an ex excellent read Will go to flying monkey's thread to write about it.

Maria2007 · 26/06/2009 18:21

Ex excellent read??!! Hhhmmmm, sorry about that!

aristocat · 26/06/2009 19:00

hi all,
just waiting for posting day.

Dysgu · 27/06/2009 21:41

I managed to find the chocolate I was after today! It is the same one I was sent by aristocat last time - and it was so yummy I am sending it to poshwellies* next week.

The only trouble now is that it is sitting around waiting to be posted - and tempting me!

I think I had better pack it up in the envelope.

artifarti · 28/06/2009 06:47

I am currently stuck with an early-rising, nap-refusing monster and so have no time at all to read, boo-hoo! Am hoping he will at least let me get through my chocolate book swap/club books in the next month...

[Dysgu - I think someone was looking for you the other week on the Meet-Ups board...]

Dysgu · 29/06/2009 00:20

Thanks arti just found the message.

And I have still not eaten the chocolate I bought...but, having mentioned it, i had better got to bed instead of rummaging to remember whether I put it in the fridge or the cupboard... one small piece can so easily lead to the whole bar.

I'm a bot like that with books too. One chapter leads to just one more...

Itsjustafleshwound · 29/06/2009 12:39

Pooter - July book should be with you soon - posted it today .... enjoy

With the good weather and summer hols on the horizon, I am hoping that my two will amuse themselves in the garden while mum reads supervises in the garden - what do you think my chances are of that one happening??

Maria2007 · 30/06/2009 08:51

Itsjustafleshwound: I'm now mumsnetting supervising ds while he's playing in his room . I love supervising ;)

pooter · 30/06/2009 09:54

itsjusta got your book and yummy choc today - scared the life out of me - i was thinking " oh shit oh shit i need to post my book" thank goodness i saw your post on this thread about it being a bit early. The book looks really interesting - and not one i would have chosen, which is a good thing!

I am currently drinking ginger beer and eating constantly as i am 12wks pregnant and very nauseous. This makes it practically 100% certain that i will bawl my eyes out at any book i receive from here on in. Hopefully DS will be happy in his paddling pool next week while i sit on the swing and read.

Right, i feel a trip to the post office coming on - get ready muddleduck...

Itsjustafleshwound · 30/06/2009 11:32

Book posted early as I just have a few more days until I have the unbridled joy of 6 weeks with some very active children ....

Hope you are feeling better pooter - keep those feet up and enjoy!

Maria2007 · 30/06/2009 11:46

OK have written some thoughts about my book (the one FlyingMonkey sent). You can see them, FlyingMonkey, at the relevant thread. Artifarti, don't go near that as it contains spoilers!!

Am off to post office to send- half a day earlier- my June book to Artifarti. Looking forward to receiving my pack of book & chocolate soon!!

aristocat · 30/06/2009 19:47

first of all congratulations pooter hope youre feeling well.
