Dr Shehata advice

Wolfemum · 10/02/2023 08:58

Hello, I am currently experiencing my 3rd consecutive miscarriage and my 2nd MMC. I have been told I will now be referred to the RMC unit but due to my age (42) i think I need to go privately and I was wondering what your opinions are on Dr Shehata? I've heard he has a brilliant reputation but is quite focused on NK cells and less on other things. Can anyone share their thoughts, opinions experiences?
My first pregnancy was healthy and resulted in my 6 year old boy but the last 2 MMC we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but then no growth or heartbeat at 7/8 weeks.
Many thanks for reading

@Lianne32 im so sorry to hear everything you’ve gone through. I have just been moved onto phase 2. I had the injections with not really any side effects at all - potentially after the first one a slightly scratchy throat but that may have been in my head. After the second one nothing but now I potentially have covid though my tests are all negative and my husband is positive. I’m now not going to try this cycle as the nurse advised me it is better not to take prednisolone if you have covid. My levels went down from 36.6 to 31.4 and ms Edge was happy with that number so I don’t have to do any more injections. Xx

whatsgoingon22 · 19/09/2023 08:40

@Hope646 congratulations lovely!!! So glad it all went well! I’m so happy for you! Amazing that you’re ahead too! You can’t write the rollarcoaster of emotions can you ? Thinking back to a few weeks ago when you were wondering when you were going to ovulate and you were probably already pregnant 😃Hope you’re feeling well now!

@Lianne32 I took four injections of adalimubab too, no side effects thankfully! Put it off for ages as was scared but turns out it was fine! Think it lasts in your system for around 12 months which was a relief to know and I was also glad they didn’t want to do a third retest as it’s quite expensive. Can you get the rubella injection at your GP? I would go to the GP and ask for any of the regular tests that you can get xx

@MeganBistram @Hope646 @JandL2020 hope you’re all good x I’m back on 150mg aspirin since Friday - finally stopped spotting (so so grateful) ❤️🙏🏻and have also started to wean off prednisone now!

best of luck to everyone testing/scanning this week ❤️❤️❤️was thinking last night how thankful I am for this group to be able to air my worries/thoughts during this time! Lots of love ❤️

Lianne32 · 19/09/2023 09:15

Thanks for your replies, yeah the injection has been ok so far just hope the side effects don’t all come at me with the second one lol.

did he recommend taking hydroxychloroquine alongside it aswell! It’s not been mentioned to me.

yeah he said he’s happy not to test at all to checked cytokine levels I guess I just have to trust the medication it’s so difficult though

I can’t get anyone to do my rubella test because I’ve had the vaccine / my GP isn’t very helpful - Dr S didn’t seem to worried about it.

JandL2020 · 19/09/2023 11:17

Hi @Lianne32. 8 IVF losses/failed implantation. That is brutal💔 I also miscarried early on 3 grade A embryos but they were not tested. I came across CRP and so glad I did. How did you come across the clinic? Sounds like your test results are similar to mine. I was also on Adalimumab just 2 doses and my levels came down luckily. No side effects although at the time I had some awful stomach issues but I’m pretty sure it was an ulcer that was causing that and has now been resolved. I also felt really anxious about taking the medication and felt the consultations were rushed somewhat but this group gave me reassurance and hope. The results also gave me a possible reason why I was miscarrying so it gave me renewed hope/positivity after such misery. I’m also self funding and it is a lot of money, I just think credit cards can be paid off and I’m probably only going to be able to do this once. I would get a prescription and go to Asda…can get progesterone for £12 a box which isn’t too bad. Fingers crossed for your October cycle…are you doing single or double transfer? I did a double but only one implanted. I’ve had 2 scans and all is well so far….never got as far as viability scans so 🤞it’s nice to have an IVF buddy in this group 🙂🙂
@whatsgoingon22 thanks Hun. Just taking every day as it comes now. I had my midwife booking app yesterday. She was so lovely and said I have been through so much I can reach out whenever I need to. She’s already booked a 16 week consultant app and midwife app at 18 weeks. Seems like jumping gun a bit as I’m still so early. Funny enough the consultant is my ivf consultant so knows my history. I’m classed as intermediate risk (high bmi, over 35 and ivf patient). It was difficult being surrounded by loads of bumps in waiting room I could feel my heart racing and I didn’t feel comfortable at all.. but once I with sat with midwife she was so brilliant! She even called me later afternoon to say she has put in request for progesterone support from 12-16 weeks so I would not have to pay for that period. I mean I’ve already shelled out a load of money but I said if I could save anything would be amazing. She wasn’t shocked when I said amount of medication I was on. Must have a lot of ivf pregnancy.
hope you’re doing okay….good news you can wean off medication now 😃😃😃

JandL2020 · 22/09/2023 11:37

Hi ladies
just had my 8 week scan. All is well. Measuring 8+4 with a strong heart beat.
there is a small collection of blood but it’s not near the baby. I had some spotting last night which is likely cause. been advised to stop the blood thinner injections and aspirin.
another milestone reached.
hope you are all doing well xx

Hope646 · 22/09/2023 15:59

@JandL2020 that's an amazing news. so glad baby is doing well. How are you feeling?

@MeganBistram that is soo sweet of you. I know it was such a relief. But now I am so anxious for my next scan on Monday. it will be the fetal medicine. I feel that will tell alot about the pregnancy. I am waiting to see how that goes before I can even annouce my pregnancy to my parents and the rest of the family. I have gained sooo much weight and feel so bloated. I keep questioning whether it is the preg. bump or whether it is all fat.
I hope you are doing well? Any plans for gender reveal yet?

@whatsgoingon22 how are you doing lovely? Today was my first day to reduce prednisolone to 20mg.
i feel so anxious at times even when there is no triggering signs. Just keep thinking of the worst for no reason. Sometimes I don't believe my luck. But there are times I feel completely ok. I am not sure if I will get to a point when i would feel comfortable about this pregnancy. It does not feel real yet.

JandL2020 · 22/09/2023 16:27

@Hope646 thank you. Not too bad. Low level Nausea and feeling tired mostly. Yesterday had an active day which always seems to happen when I’ve had a bleed so now super paranoid about being active. I can feel myself gaining lot of weight already and im already a big girl. Im trying to get eat well but my portion sizes are big and my appetite is constant…like I will eat a sausage roll as a snack just to ease the nausea..not good!
is it your 12 week scan on Monday? Is it nhs or crp? I booked mine with crp today and she said do you want standard scan or nuchal. Naturally I’ve gone for the nuchal even though nhs do this presumably? I know nhs don’t do harmony test but crp will do all the bloods then the receptionist said. I have no idea what all these tests are but I’m just saying yes to it!
ive not managed to keep it from my parents I update them after every scan although I think my mum is a bit fed up already to be honest.
my other half surprised me today..he’s out with his best friend tonight and I had said previously you can tell him if you would like to, and he said no. Then on way home he said “is it okay if I tell …” I said yes that’s fine. He’s been there through our losses and such a lovely guy…he doesn’t know anyone else so won’t tell anyone. Also if things go through my other half will need his best friend, so I’m happy he’s got someone to talk to about it all. It must be very scary for him too.
when reducing prednisone…so you take 20mg for 5 days, then 15mg for another 5 days and so forth?
trying to work out if I have enough boxes left think I’ve calculated it wrong 😑
Dr edge said at the first scan it won’t feel real until you start to feel movement especially having gone through loss. Take every day as it comes
xx

MeganBistram · 22/09/2023 18:10

@JandL2020 such amazing news.. so pleased for you. I went for the nuchal scan as it’s only £70 more and much more detailed. NHS effectively at 12 weeks make sure there is a heartbeat, check size and take bloods for the nhs downs risk.
I waited for the harmony until after Ghd nuchal scan as if that is low risk and the nhs is low risk it’s a lot of money for the Same output.

@whatsgoingon22 how are you feeling now you’re lowering the drugs? I interestingly still have more symptoms with this baby vs. My son ( now 19 weeks ) so god knows how bad I would have been without steroids. I still have the rank taste after certain foods and get headaches. I am just on hydroxy now until term and moved to zooms with DR edge ( still £200 lol ) warning for 20 week app. They want to do a cervical scan for £350. I found one locally for £20 so might be worth looking elsewhere for that one.

@Hope646 i didn’t tell my family until after 13 weeks and my friends at 16 weeks. I just told work and I still don’t feel 💯 talking about it. Everyone is so positive but I remain sceptical.. it deffo does ease and movement helps.. I get pretty regular evening movement now which is nice but you just worry about the next thing which for me is the 2nd for the 20 week abnormality scan. Weight wise I put on 3kg before 12 weeks ( unheard of for me ) then nothing since.. the drugs are hardcore for shape and size but it evens off as soon as you stop them :)

@JandL2020 be kind to yourself.. big girl or not you have enough to worry about than having to worry about food as well xx

JandL2020 · 22/09/2023 18:52

@MeganBistram thanks so much for info. How much is harmony test? Think that will be done at 10 weeks. The nhs midwife did say the same thing they wouldn’t usually do it until after the other tests depending on outcome. Happy to save money where we can. Today cost £670!! We left our house today at 8.10 didn’t get home until 14.30…was an hour late for appointment (bad accident on m25) then there was an accident on way out of Epsom so we had to go another way! Then of course the tunnel takes ages. Luckily our dog Walker took him out for a really long walk so didn’t have to worry about him and leaving him too long. I hear more women have symptoms with girls than boys…so could be a girl? 🙂 £200 zoom call wow 😯 I will probably have a cervical scan what week do they do this? I hear about losses in 2nd trimester with incompetent cervix and it terrifies me. Also my blood clot is top of my cervix…it’s only 1cm but still.
I know I need to trust the consultant but he was soooo chilled about stopping the blood thinners! I’m wondering if dr edge would have just advised stopping aspirin? I’m going to email clinic on Monday to get someone else to RV. I’m just scared about coming off something completely.
having fish and chips tonight..not from the chippy just home cooked. And will enjoy every bite haha 🤣 xx

Lara8 · 22/09/2023 19:39

@JandL2020 I think I was sat having my intralipid beside you today! You were on the bed and I was on the chair straight ahead from you! It’s clicked as I remember you saying to the nurse you were an hour late!

So pleased it is all going well for you and the scan was good today. Xxxxxxxxx

JandL2020 · 22/09/2023 20:00

@Lara8 yes that was me 🤣 hello! I didn’t find the bed as comfy as the recliner chairs! Thank you 🙏🏻 best of luck for this cycle🤞 xxx

Lianne32 · 26/09/2023 22:19

Hi everyone

in a bit of a state, my Adalimumab injection was due tonight and as I done it, it jammed and went everywhere think it’s faulty - what am I supposed to do I’ve emailed clinic and the pharmacy - I’m so upset because it just completely jammed!! Will I have to pay even tho the injection was clearly faulty

its exactly 2 weeks since my last one is it going to mess everything up I’m so anxious

JandL2020 · 27/09/2023 08:31

@Lianne32 I’m so sorry this has happened. I was really confused by the instructions so I had to video call my best friend who’s a nurse to run it through with me. I remember having to push down hard and let it release but keep it there, was that when it jammed? You’ve said you have done it before though. Hope the clinic and pharmacy are sympathetic and issue you one free of charge xx

whatsgoingon22 · 27/09/2023 09:15

Hi @Lianne32 sorry to hear that happened to your injection, that’s so annoying. Did you get it through CRP? Maybe you can call them
today and explain what happened. I know they’re so expensive that that is such a waste so I hope they would be understanding about it….. urgh so annoying. I wouldn’t say it matters too much if it’s not exactly two weeks on the button so don’t worry too much about that. Hope you get sorted and let us know how you get on.

@Hope646 how did your scan go? I hope it went well for you! i know how you feel- some days I’m bouncing round spring in my step getting carried away and others I’m like ‘oh shit’. It’s very hard and meanwhile time is passing and I feel unable to relax or enjoy 🙈. My other half told one person and I told the psychic and that is it so far 😂😂

@JandL2020 so glad your scan went well after all the hassle! It’s so so expensive I know. Sounds like your blood clot was where mine was too…. Did you speak to CRP, I think Dr Edge would have said stop aspirin too (she seems to recommend that with any bleeding)

@MeganBistram how are you doing now? when did you first start to feel movement? Did Dr Edge request the zooms or did you ask for them instead due to distance etc? Ahh that’s a huge difference in cervical scan cost …… do you mind me asking where you got it done?/do you know if the NHS do it? I hate the small private ultrasound places to be honest - bring back really bad memories for me 😫☹️so I don’t think I can face going to any of them if that’s where you got it done🙈

How is everyone else doing? Sorry I took a few days away from here. I think/hope/pray ❤️🙏🏻I’m okay …. Im still weaning off the pred. I’m back on the aspirin and thankfully have had no spotting. I have a lot more energy and @MeganBistram as you said it feels weird that all the first trimester symptoms decrease/are now non existent! Still bloated and slightly sensitive boobs but they haven’t grown much!! My nails are growing a lot/still having weird dreams but that’s about it! Any tiredness/nausea is gone and feel more like myself which I hope is a good thing (trimester timing wise). Next scan (16weeks) is next Tuesday ❤️🙏🏻

lots of love xxx

JandL2020 · 27/09/2023 09:22

@whatsgoingon22 thank you. I emailed the nurses yesterday for reassurance and they said not to worry and and stick to it. Scan on 5th feels ages away.
glad your symptoms have eased. Exciting with 16 week scan coming up. Are you going to find out the sex? Xx

Sprinkleofbabydust · 28/09/2023 08:25

Hi all, I wondered if you could help please. In summary our history we’ve had 4 miscarriages following natural conception and the last one was earlier this year and was due to a chromosomal issue. The last two pregnancies were after a laparoscopy, first one I had adhesions and mild endo in latest one. We were referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic at St Mary’s imperial college and all the tests and ultrasound came back fine. We have now sought help at a private clinic not CRP as I only came across it last week and I have now heard about Dr Shehata. I just had the TH1:TH2 test done and that’s come back fine and we’re awaiting results of karyotype testing for both me and my husband. We will likely have ICSI IVF as I’m 39 so don’t have time on our hands. The consultant has said he wouldn’t advise any other tests incl NK killer cells as it’s added costs and instead he would just prescribe the necessary meds e.g steroids etc which would cover them all off. I would be really grateful if anyone particularly those who have now been successful could list what they were prescribed and at what stage I.e before transfer and after transfer. This would be helpful as at least we can then ask the consultant proactively if it has helped others if that makes sense to increase our chances of a successful pregnancy. Thank you in advance!

thehurtingheart · 28/09/2023 11:20

Hi folks, back looking for advice. Had 2 super squinters on 10dpo, reluctant to travel from Scotland to CRP for intralipids if this is a chemical... when did most of you get your first post bfp intralipids? Scared to call clinic to then have to cancel it again.

Hope646 · 28/09/2023 11:35

@MeganBistram when is your week 20 scan? Do you still do them at CRP clinic? I can't wait to feel some movements. I am sure you feel more connected to the baby then.
I have gained weight. the other symptoms like heartburn have disappeared but I am losing so much hair. It is scary. The doctors said it is normal during pregnancy.

@whatsgoingon22 I have started weaning of meds also. Today I started taking 15mg of pred. I have had some spotting 2 days ago which like usually caused anxiety. I stopped aspirin. Now it is ok.
So I had my Nuchal scan couple of days ago at crp. Thankfully it was all good news. They brought my due date 12 days earlier compare to what it was based on my last period date. I was showing 12 days and 6 days.
I am not sure if any of you were told about the gender during this scan. I asked the doctor but he was hesitant to share at first because he said it is early and the baby wasn't in the right position. But later he revealed saying "I THINK it is a ....". I wonder if it is accurate at this stage?

How many more scans will you ladies do at CRP? I know there is one at week 16 and week 20? I wonder whether it is needed or it can be covered by NHS. Or whether I should priorities CRP.

I haven't announced my preg to anyone yet. Rather than feeling excitement, I feel more anxious about it. I feel something will go wrong. It is a strange feeling.

@JandL2020 i hope you are doing well and have started enjoying the preg. When is your next appointment?

JandL2020 · 28/09/2023 12:51

@thehurtingheart i would wait 48 hours and retest. The test should get much darker if it’s not a chemical. You’ll know for definite over the weekend then you can book it in Monday? I think as long as it’s around 4 weeks it doesn’t really matter. Good luck I hope the line gets darker for you.
@Hope646 lovely to hear your news. How long did it take for your results to get back? Exciting given you idea on sex 🙂 I think there’s a scan at 14 weeks, 16 weeks (with last intralipid) and 20 weeks. I’ll go to all of them. I guess it depends on where you live and travel really.
grateful for every day at the moment, and just waiting for next scan which will be 10 weeks and 3 days (on the 5th October).
My symptoms coming and going at the minute. I had overwhelming fatigue yesterday I couldn’t go into work.
I just want to eat all the time as well…this must be the steroids doing this??
when you wean on and drop by 5mg do you take 20mg for 5 days, then drop to 15mg for 5 days and so forth?
xx

JandL2020 · 28/09/2023 13:00

@Sprinkleofbabydust hello! Sorry to hear of your losses. I have been on prednisone 25mg 5 days prior to embryo transfer (day 5 blastocyst) and continued to take until 12 weeks, and wean off after this.
was also on progesterone pessaries 3 x day plus one lubion injection. This continues until 12 weeks then wean to 2 pessaries from 12-16 weeks
aspirin 75mg before transfer and continue to 20 weeks
fragmin/clexane - 5 days before transfer and continued until 12 weeks
dr shehata is all about pre conception with the steroid/intralipid treatment where as some clinics don’t prescribe until bfp.
I had intralipids 7 days before transfer then at positive test, 8 weeks
best of luck xx

MeganBistram · 28/09/2023 15:41

@Hope646 AMAZING news, I think we all secretly thought that you were much further ahead than the Period suggested. Have you got an NHS one or just doing the CRP one. Did you go for the Harmony in the end? I honestly still struggle telling people now and I'm 20 weeks today... It doesn't feel exciting.. specially as they get excited and you can't mirror it.

I definitely feel with CRP that the further you go on the less detailed they become, My 16 week was quite basic and they didn't even follow up with notes. I was suppose to go back at 20 weeks (tomorrow) to do a cervical length scan but its £380 with them and only £100 where I went @whatsgoingon22 its a clinic in Sutton Coldfield, it is private but very lovely and is a fertility place so not filled with pregnancy stuff so feels much more like CRP.

I actually had the Cervical scan on monday with reassurance scan.. and we are having another boy :) over the moon everything was looking good and all on track. Its so nice to get some movement but just a new thing to worry about if I don't feel them for a while .

Monday is NHS day for the abnormality one which is the next milestone.

@thehurtingheart Maybe do a blood test. I waited for those before I did the intralipids but fingers crossed for you

@Lianne32 did you get it sorted? xx

JandL2020 · 28/09/2023 16:47

@MeganBistram aww a boy 👦 congrats. I know what you mean about excitement. I don’t think I’ll ever be excited. Just not me anyway. Won’t be doing any fancy announcement or anything. My closest friends know already anyway. I just have to remember to tell my dad side to of the family who I don’t really speak to anymore. Will cross that bridge xx

Stargirl10 · 28/09/2023 18:40

Hi guys, sorry for not responding, I have been quite unwell since the miscarriage despite it being almost a month ago. Anyways, i met Dr S in the london clinic on monday, he was quite nice. he was annoyed that my consultant with the NHS had put me on soo much medication during pregnancy without ever finding what was happening (although he was the only consultant that took it seriously and did try to find answers and when he couldnt he recommended Dr S despite having his own private practice so i am grateful to him). i was taking bloodclot injections, aspirin, cyclogest, vitamin d, folic acid, and prednisolone which he was not happy about. he said i should of been taking meds before getting pregnant as once im pregnant it doesnt help. He kept insisting we dont get pregnant now and let him investigate which was our intentions anyways. He also thinks its NK causing this and nothing else as all other tests i have done with the nhs or private drs abroad look good.

He sent me for some bloods, wish he had warned me about how much they take! 20 bottles was a shock! but hopefully it means we get some answers. we see him in epsom now in 2 weeks time. really hoping i get some answers now. he has also told me to start taking pregnancy vitamins with omega 3, along with coq10 3 times a day, aspirin (but not when on period) and vitamin d, and my husband was told to take some vitamins he recommended coq10 once a day and vitamin d. Has anyone else been told to do this? he initially told me i didnt need to coq10 but in the letter he send it said he recommends i take it, i started taking it from yesterday but only once a day as the tablets are huge, anyone have any recommendations for pregnancy vitamins that are not massive! pregnacare are so hard to swallow! i thought he would recommend prenatals but said pregnancy vitamins instead.

congratulations to everyone thats pregnant and hope u guys all have safe pregnancies and the scares stop. please sprinkle your baby dust on the rest of us too!

Lianne32 · 28/09/2023 20:24

Hi everyone, thank you.

Crisis averted the company sent me a replacement Adalimumab free of charge - I am so relieved - I did the injection tonight with no problem!

thank you hope all is ok

ps - what is a good prenatal with omega 3? Also why Coq10 I was under the impression that was only to be used during the egg retrieval process not after.

Lily1990 · 28/09/2023 20:56

Hello all,

there is some wonderful news on this group, many congratulations lovely ladies for your successful scans! @MeganBistram @Hope646 @JandL2020 @whatsgoingon22

and @thehurtingheart congrats on your positive test, fingers crossed it develops!

@Stargirl10 great you had your first appointment with Dr S and the blood tests done. Not long till you get some answers!

I’m sorry to be a downer but I’m feeling like for the first time in this journey I’ve lost hope I’ll ever be able to have a successful pregnancy. After the recent 5 week loss I can’t shake the feeling Dr S’s plan won’t work for me, and there is something else wrong I don’t know about. I also had a scan in the EPU yesterday and found I have retained products from that, but luckily they think it will come out in my next period.

Does anyone have a history of early losses like 5/6 weeks? I read they are harder to treat so that’s also contributing to my feelings of despair! And did anyone else have a hysteroscopy before seeing Dr S? Wondering if I have a uterine abnormality!

lots of love to you all xxx
