Dr Shehata advice

Wolfemum · 10/02/2023 08:58

Hello, I am currently experiencing my 3rd consecutive miscarriage and my 2nd MMC. I have been told I will now be referred to the RMC unit but due to my age (42) i think I need to go privately and I was wondering what your opinions are on Dr Shehata? I've heard he has a brilliant reputation but is quite focused on NK cells and less on other things. Can anyone share their thoughts, opinions experiences?
My first pregnancy was healthy and resulted in my 6 year old boy but the last 2 MMC we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but then no growth or heartbeat at 7/8 weeks.
Many thanks for reading

Thank you so much for the supportive messages @JandL2020 @MeganBistram. The appointment went ok, he’s increased my pred to 20mg and put me on hydroxy too. He thinks it’s my NK cells that have caused this (as I’ve had 4 chemicals now plus an 8.5 week loss), so he said unlikely to be a random chromosomal
abnormality. Annoyingly we have to wait 4 weeks before trying again for the hydroxy to get in my system, which means late October / early Nov given my long cycles 😞. But I’m glad he’s taken it seriously and throwing everything at it!

Your experience with the hydroxy @MeganBistram makes me feel a lot better as I’m terrified of hair loss and developing eyesight problems (they said I have to get an eye check before starting 😱). I haven’t had any side effects from pred or Adamamilab (however you spell it!) so praying I will be as lucky for hydroxy!

Thanks @JandL2020 I’ll defo get blood tests next time I’m pregnant and also agree that checking progesterone would be helpful. I guess that’s one benefit of IVF to monitor everything more closely and not just focus on NK cells like CRP do. We have an appointment with an IVF place in early October. We are 33 now but have been trying for 2 years and IVF would mean we could use embryos banked from this age in the years to come. It’s very helpful to hear of your experience.

thanks ladies and good luck @Hope646 for your scan on Friday xx

Lara8 · 13/09/2023 11:18

@JandL2020 and @whatsgoingon22 so lovely to read your positive updates. Really hope you can both begin to sink into trusting things will be ok although I imagine this is still really difficult.

@Lily1990 sounds like a good plan. I am so sorry to hear about your recent loss. I have had lots of early losses and very high nk cells. I’m on 25mg of the steroid.

@KatyTTC how is your mum getting on? And yes I react the same way, when I read your experience of having the shakes before I can totally relate it’s horrid. I imagine the anxiety of your mum being unwell doesn’t help. I think stress makes it worse.

My period came a day late so here we go again, onto the next cycle!

Hope646 · 13/09/2023 12:32

@MeganBistram thank you so much. i hope you are doing well xx

@whatsgoingon22 so so sooo relieved to know your scan went well. How is the spotting been for you now? It sounds like they pick up a lot more than NHS. How are you feeling? I still have strange dreams which I don’t mind. Heartburn is there everyday no matter what I eat which is quite bothering me. But to be honest I am glad to at least have some sort of symptoms and I am hoping it is to do with pregnancy.

@JandL2020 I am so glad your scan went well. Don’t worry about the measurement. I think until your week 12 scan, it won’t be 100% accurate. I have been told it shows 1 week ahead for me which could be concerning, but I keep telling myself it is mostly like because of early ovulation.

@Lily1990 so sorry for your loss and the emotional rollercoaster you have gone through. That was with my third pregnancy, I started bleeding, but my HCG was doubling even though it was low. Doctors were not sure whether it is viable or not. It turned out to be blighted ovum. But emotionally it was much harder because one min we were being told it could be a viable pregnancy, next min all the uncertainty that went on for over a week. I am glad they have increased your medicine and come up with a better protocol. I am confident it will work for you the way it has helped @MeganBistram. Reading the side effects is scary even for prednisolone it says how it affects the eyesight. But it was all good.

@KatyTTC and @Lara8 wish you both all the luck for this new cycle. @KatyTTC thinking of you and your mum. I agree too. i think stress does make the reaction from steriod worse.

JandL2020 · 13/09/2023 14:40

@Lily1990 that sounds like a really good plan and you are still nice and young. You could do a fresh cycle of ivf and do a freeze all then time it with immune cycle at crp. Xx

thehurtingheart · 13/09/2023 17:07

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me jumping in - I've been a silent watcher for some time! So sorry to everyone for their journeys and tentative congratulations to everyone who is currently pregnant. I am on my second cycle since starting with Dr Shehata after 4 miscarriages. I am 33 with no children so far.

This month my LH has been messing with my head as I had a rise on day 11, not enough for my app to detect a high and then it went back down and I'm now on day 15 with no hint of a rise. I thought it was just a false alarm so didn't start taking all my meds expecting a true rise later but now am panicking. I contacted the clinic who said to just start now and take for ten days... I'm just panicking and gutted that I may have messed up this cycle. Tbh with such a low LH score (0.48) I'd be surprised if that was ovulation so I'm afraid to take the meds in case they prevent me from ovulating at all this month. Anyone got any experience or wise words to help here? Thanks in advance!

Stargirl10 · 13/09/2023 20:26

Hi guys, been following this post for a few weeks, i have had 8 miscarriages in 2 years. I have a 4 year old and all miscarriages have been since having her. I was told about Dr S by my current nhs consultant, I miscarried last week and he has done every test he could do, all is clear. I was curious and thought id ask here, how long does it take from ur first appoint with him until u can start trying to conceive? does the testing take long?

TIA

MeganBistram · 13/09/2023 20:52

@thehurtingheart please try not to worry. Firstly a rise in LH literally needs to be just double what it normally is to show ovulation. Also you could have had a surge for 2 hours and missed the peak. Secondly I really would not worry about being late on the drugs. I stopped mine thinking I wasn’t pregnant then started them again 4 days later. Also I don’t start the progesterone until 3PO as read it can stop implantation if taken to early, so keep positive 🥰

@Stargirl10 it took about 3 weeks / a month to get an appointment then two weeks for results. Then it depends on the protocol.. longest wait is 3 months max and if you don’t need some drugs then you caN start straight away xx

MeganBistram · 13/09/2023 20:53

@Stargirl10 sorry to hear of your latest loss it really is heart breaking xx

Fisky123 · 14/09/2023 02:29

Hi all, sorry for the random question. My ovulation days over the past 6 months have been 18, 21, 22, 29, 21, 41. Today is day 10 and I’ve got a bit of cm and also flashing smiley on digital test and slight line on test strip. So ov is coming and may actually for once be on time. Im away with work mon-wednes next week in Amsterdam so I have to get my infusion (regardless of being away) today or Fri asap. I had booked in for day 19 which is 22nd (next Fri). I’ve emailed crp and asked if they can fit me in today or Fri. Do they tend to be able to do this? Im Hoping they must be used to this sort of thing happening? Im so worried they won’t be able to fit me in and I’ll be unable to get my intralipid done this month. does anyone know how flexible they are?

@Lily1990 and @MeganBistram im on hydroxy and I’m fine with it except the stomach agro about 2-4 hours after taking it. I take it at lunchtime so it doesn’t affect me at night. It’s totally bearable and it gets better with time I’ve been on it 6 weeks. I now know to expect a few issues and I just deal with it as it’s all for a good purpose.

@JandL2020, @MeganBistram, @whatsgoingon22 & @Hope646 so pleased for you all re your scans 💖

@Lily1990 I’m so sorry about your chemical? Sending lots of positive vibes your way xxx

thehurtingheart · 14/09/2023 08:07

@MeganBistram thanks for the advice and reassurance. My temp hasn't really risen either so I'm almost sure I haven't ovulated this month but at this point all I can do now is start the meds and wait and see.

JandL2020 · 14/09/2023 08:23

@Fisky123 thank you ❤️ after I had my appointment last Thursday I wanted to book in for next scan/infusion on a Wednesday/Thursday next week but they didn’t have availability so I’ve got Friday 22nd. But that could be because I need a scan and infusion. When I’ve called when I got my positive they booked me in 2 days after. I think they are used to it xx

jchars7 · 14/09/2023 11:13

Hi everyone, I’ve been silently and patiently reading through everyone’s comments as they come through and have been keeping you all in my thoughts. I wanted to come on here and let you know I’ve just had a zoom call with Dr Edge and I’m ready to start phase 2 - I’m so happy but now I’m actually getting nervous! Plus unsure if I have covid or just a nasty chest / cough / sore throat 😭😭😭! So now I will be starting all the healthy things to prepare my body. Anyway, will keep you updated. Hoping to get some meds through my GP. Xxx

Fisky123 · 14/09/2023 19:06

Thanks @JandL2020 I managed to get in today and have had it done so am all prepared for first natural try on the protocol. @jchars7 that’s really good, it’s great you feel happy about it it’s a new thing phase and fresh start. I hope you feel better soon. I met the most loveliest lady today who was also having her infusion whilst I was, her name was Rebecca and she said she reads this thread - I wish I swapped numbers with you Rebecca I’d love to support you on your journey. Feel free to private message me if you see this xx

MeganBistram · 14/09/2023 19:57

@Fisky123 amazong glad they got you in. Normally intrilipids are quite easy to get last minute as they can do 3 people an hour.

glad you met someone on the journey and so pleased this group helps other woman on the same journey ❤️

@Hope646 good luck for tomorrow darling. Please let us know how it goes xx

whatsgoingon22 · 14/09/2023 23:57

Good luck tomorrow @Hope646 ❤️will be thinking of you xx had brown spotting on/off until today so hopefully that’s the end of it now. Was thinking of you this am as I had a dream we dropped the baby straight after ‘he’ was born 🙈

@JandL2020am so glad all went well at the scan darling, I know how nerve racking they are! Amazing news! No idea why exactly he said I was at slightly higher risk of p/ecl - think they mark it out of all the risk factors and I know age is included (37)and also I think my bp was slightly higher after the scan 🙈haven’t started the aspirin yet as waiting for spotting to stop.

@KatyTTC Hope you’re doing okay darling ❤️thanks again for all your love with all you have on your plate. I hope you get some self care time to focus on you this month and hope you got to enjoy your wedding anniversary. Did you do anything nice for it? Hope you’re okay it can’t be easy to compartmentalise everything at the moment. Love to you throughout all these difficult times xx

@Lara8hope you’re doing okay lovely xx all the best for this cycle, we will be rooting for you too😊! I don’t think it gets easier to be honest but I’m a massive worrier and got really bad anxiety from all of the M/c so that probably doesn’t help! Am trying to stay calm though and trust the process and that this time is different❤️🙏🏻

@Lily1990so sorry for your loss and all the stress and pain you’ve been through especially as you were away 😔that’s so typical and unfair. I’m glad they have changed and increased your meds. I think even that in itself will make you feel better trying again. Don’t know much about hydroxy but it’s good to know Megan has been on it and doing okay.

@Fisky123 well done on getting in today, hope it all goes well for you now 😊 I do think when I’m sitting in the rooms if I know anyone from here 😃🙈 once I stupidly walked in on the wrong date for an intralipid that we had booked for the following week and they managed to fit me in🙈

Good luck @jchars7with everything! I was super nervous to start everything and procrastinated for months and months but my advice is just go for it and do it knowing that you have a different plan and support behind you this time. I was scared to face it all again and then also to start all these meds that I’d never heard of but thankfully I haven’t had any major symptoms so far - I will suffer the bloating and weight gain for it all to work out 🙏🏻

So sorry for your losses @Stargirl10 i hope you’re doing okay❤️ Dr S is a good place to go for support. I’m sure they say that the more M/c you have the more your Nk cells increase and therefore the more likely it is to have an M/c again which is so so unfair. But all the drugs we are all on suppress the inflammation and NK activity so I think it’s only fair to give it a shot when you exhaust all other areas. NHS were unable to find any issues for me either and told me to keep trying 🙈

@thehurtingheartsorry i naively don’t know too much about LH/ovulation stage but I hope all works out for you lovely x

@MeganBistramhope you’re doing good 😊how are you feeling? Can you feel baby now? no pressure but I feel like you are flying the inspirational flag for us all at the moment ❤️🙏🏻😊😊keep leading us all in the right direction you are doing great xx

KatyTTC · 15/09/2023 17:33

Quick one. I’ll write a proper post later this eve.
I’ve run out of letrozole and my gp has just told me at 17:30 on a Friday that they can’t prescribe it for me having said they would earlier this week! I’m on day 3 and need it for another 2 days 🙈.
does anyone know the CRP emergency out of hours number? Just want to ask them what to do! 😬
thanks in advance! Xxx

whatsgoingon22 · 15/09/2023 18:21

Sorry @KatyTTC no idea if they do or not. Hope you get sorted, so annoying your Gp has messed you about. I don’t know if the London clinic are opened later? Xx good luck

KatyTTC · 15/09/2023 19:11

@whatsgoingon22 All sorted! The clinic called me at 17:30 and sorted it all out for me. They’re amazing! Xx

whatsgoingon22 · 15/09/2023 19:13

Great stuff that’s a relief @KatyTTC ❤️❤️

JandL2020 · 15/09/2023 20:14

@KatyTTC amazing they did that what a relief. X

Hope646 · 16/09/2023 09:29

@whatsgoingon22 ahhh the dreams and i never remember my dreams but the last few weeks, i remember almost every detail. i hope the spotting has reduced and you are doing well.

@MeganBistram thank you so much for being such a support and a true lead to each one of us from day one. How are you doing?

So my scan yesterday went well. it was such a relief. I was showing ahead again. Based on previous scans i should have been 10 weeks and 5 days but yesterday i was showing 11 weeks and 1 day. Dr. Edge said its nothing to worry about. I hope that is a good thing.
I was so anxious. I never thought I would reach this stage. We saw the little leg kicking and hands moving. Never seen that before. I know it is still very early stage but I am so grateful. Now the main scan with the fetal medicine is in 12 days. I think the real outcome can be concluded then.

@thehurtingheart i am so sorrry for your losses. The cycle that I fell pregnant, I never saw a peak so i thought I was not ovulating. But later tested positive for preg much early. I must have ovulated much earlier. Because of this confusion I did not start my medication on time but the intralipids may have done the job. My cycle was always 28 days and I already had an idea when I would be ovulating. But i do think the medication changes the cycle for some women and it takes few cycle for your body to get used to it. I would suggest use the cheap strips and start tracking your ovulation from the first week when your period ends depending on your cycle. This is just based on my experience. Also, i think it is the progesterone that stop/ delays ovulation, but prednisolone is key to take on time as that controls NK cells.

@Stargirl10 l I am so sorry for your losses. That is a lot to go through. I hope you are okay. You are doing the right thing starting this journey with Dr. S. NHS and another private clinic gave up on me, I have reached this milestone because of this protocol. Wish you all the luck.
@fisky I am glad they managed to fit you in. They are very accommodating to last min request especially when it is urgent. Good luck for this cycle.

@jchars7 ars that's great that you are ready for phase 2. I hope it all goes well. It is very scary in the beginning. You question and doubt everything. But it's best to trust the protocol. Seeing some positive stories here and the support from lovely ladies on this group really kept me going. Wish you the very best.

@KatyTTC arghh the stress some GPs cause is so unnecessary. I am glad CRP sorted it out for you. They have a great team especially the nurses are very responsive when you email/call them.

JandL2020 · 16/09/2023 11:08

@Hope646 fantastic news, that must have been amazing to see the baby moving on screen.
I have a midwife booking appointment on Monday and 12 week scan 18th October already! 🤞🤞

MeganBistram · 16/09/2023 11:18

@Hope646 amazing news. I kept checking yesterday to see if you had posted. I feel like I get nervous for you every time you have a scan.. I am fully invested 🤣❤️

the 11 week mark is amazing.. and the 12 sets a strong milestone. The 13-16/17 mark is hard as you start to feel more like yourself and not really showing and don’t feel anything.. your mind starts doing crazy things. However each day is a blessing.. I have my 20 week NhS scan on the 2nd of oct. This feels like the big milestone for me as it’s the abnormality one. Then hopefully with some movements I will finally start believing :)

@KatyTTC few I bet that was stressful. :)

@JandL2020 whens the next scan? How are you feeling?

@whatsgoingon22 fingers crossed the bleeding as stopped and you can start the Asprin

xx

JandL2020 · 16/09/2023 11:41

@MeganBistram next Friday 😩 on/off nausea and slightly sore boobs (they definitely feel different to normal) and a bit tired but otherwise absolutely fine! My mum thinks I’m having too many scans but I told her it’s part of my protocol. Not long now until your 20 week one…will you have that at crp as well? X

Lianne32 · 18/09/2023 23:07

Hi everyone,

I went to CRP clinic back in August and have just had my follow up with Dr Shehata last week after having 3 miscarriages (most recent I had to have a d&c) this was a pgs tested embryo but they sent it off for testing anyway and it was a normal little boy. I have 2 pgs embryos left and 3 untested.

I've lost 8 embryos either through miscarriage or no implantation :-(

He Found a cytokine issue with the TNF ratio, which I’ve never even heard of - he put me on Adalimumab - has anyone taken this? He wasn’t bothered about me having another blood test because he said my level was only 33.6, though it can raise I read but he still didn’t seem concerned.

NK cell wise are 19% but the activation marker was high, he’s very fast in his consultations and it’s very overwhelming at times but he seems confident about me having success with him.

I’m funding this treatment completely alone and I feel like finding nemo in shark infested waters at times and the blood tests are eye watering and he’s already wavered a Rubella test and said I don’t have to have this second blood test.

I'm looking for some advice about the injections, I’ve done the first one a week and so far haven’t had any side effects.

My 7th embryo transfer will be in October towards the end.

I Think it’s 4 weeks after the first Adalimumab injection you can have a transfer is that right? My phase 2 is on the 12th October with Dr edge.

I hope everyone is doing ok on their journeys x
