Dr Shehata advice

Wolfemum · 10/02/2023 08:58

Hello, I am currently experiencing my 3rd consecutive miscarriage and my 2nd MMC. I have been told I will now be referred to the RMC unit but due to my age (42) i think I need to go privately and I was wondering what your opinions are on Dr Shehata? I've heard he has a brilliant reputation but is quite focused on NK cells and less on other things. Can anyone share their thoughts, opinions experiences?
My first pregnancy was healthy and resulted in my 6 year old boy but the last 2 MMC we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but then no growth or heartbeat at 7/8 weeks.
Many thanks for reading

@JandL2020 sending you so much luck for tomorrow. Hoping it all goes really well and you’re happy with the direction the clinic steer you in. Keeping everything possible crossed for you. Xxx

@Lily1990 for SO I think the day of the trigger is effectively the day of the peak on an OPK possibly the day before as you ovulate 36-40 hrs after it. CRP told me to have sex that day, the day after the trigger shot and the day after that. I think just go for it! Good luck!! It’s exhausting 🤣🙈.

@Hope646 as others have said spotting after sex is so normal as are cramps and pains in early pregnancy. Try not to worry (almost laughable saying that!). when’s your scan?

@MeganBistram and @whatsgoingon22 how are you both feeling?

@JandL2020 forgot to say, Im
finding the steroids are really interfering with my sleep and I constantly feel a bit jittery, hyper, anxious etc. I felt ok on them last month but this month it’s so noticeable. Im worrying about my mum which I’m sure is partly to play but I started taking the steroids just over a week ago and it’s definitely been a lot worse since then esp the jittery, hyper and anxious feelings. I’m getting alot done on the plus side…! Xx

JandL2020 · 12/08/2023 07:56

@KatyTTC thank you so much. Been awake since 4 most days and just been reading scary posts on mumsnet about twins. Really hasn’t helped. Just having a fruit tea and will go back to bed soon if I can get another hours sleep then head for a longish walk. Definitely find I have more energy too. The progesterone bloat is horrible and I assume the steroids not helping. I’m massive. Hope your mum is okay. Sending good vibes your way

xx

KatyTTC · 12/08/2023 11:39

Don’t let twins put you off. I’ve got lots of friends with twins and twin nephews and while the new born stage is undoubtedly hard (but you’ll be so overjoyed you won’t care!) they all say from about 18 months it’s actually easier having two the same stage than say a toddler and a newborn! Two for the price of one as my brother always says!

Let us know what you decide!

Good luck!!

xxxx

JandL2020 · 12/08/2023 13:29

@KatyTTC thank you.
I had to read this sheet of all the risks etc and and then had to sign it.
it wasn’t very nice and I cried that I actually missed the transfer bit
was over very quickly at least.
grade c and a on board, test day 23rd and have a blood test booked it. They want to charge me for it. I said I’m absolutely not paying with how much this cycle has cost and how I’ve treated by my clinic in past. You would think they would understand by now and have my history on record?
im going to test a day early so gives me plenty of time to book infusion in…think it has to be within 4 days of positive test.

hope everyone’s having a good weekend so far
xx

KatyTTC · 12/08/2023 13:47

Ohhhh @JandL2020 a huge congratulations!!
Wow. What a day for you. And an agonising 10 day wait coming up I imagine. Have you got lots planned to keep you distracted?
I hope you’re pleased with the outcome as you said you wanted an A and a C?
How are you feeling? Xxx

JandL2020 · 12/08/2023 14:54

@KatyTTC ha thank you officially “pregnant until proven otherwise” 🤣 yes I can’t complain too much I got what I wanted.
im taking it easy this weekend, plenty of nice walks, good food. Next week I’ll go back to work …but take it easy…luckily colleague I work with is going to do the manual handling side of job we do and I’ll do the desk job stuff. Wednesday night going to london to see Pillowman with one of my bestie. No idea what to expect. I’ve also got a new book and an old book I haven’t finished yet. Netflix and healthy ish takeaway tonight (Turkish - comes with salad) 🤣
im just trying to shift a headache at the moment. I’m guessing this is progesterone doing this and stress I felt this morning..ew it’s thumping . First time I’ve taken paracetamol in a long time as generally felt good other than the bloat.
got told my progesterone levels were 83. Usually my levels on transfer day are over 100 so I’m a bit disappointed with that and now have to add an extra lunch time pessary. Which I haven’t been doing due to mess of it and work but now I will just have to just relax at home and hope for the best.
sorry that was long winded 🤣
xxx

Lily1990 · 13/08/2023 21:08

@JandL2020 this is exciting! Well done for getting this far - bet it was an emotional day for you and your partner. Your TWW plans sound really nice and chilled. How long ago did you have the egg collection? Sorry for TMI but I find the pessaries are not messy at all if you put them up the bum!

@KatyTTC How are you doing? Hope you have had a lovely weekend with your mum and she's doing well. Very best of luck for your test day tomorrow. We are here for you whatever the outcome xx

I have just realised my test day is my partner's birthday😔I think I'll have to wait and test at 11dpo as it would be ruined slightly by a bfn and me being upset! Annoying timing as I'm the most impatient person ever too! xx

JandL2020 · 13/08/2023 21:38

@Lily1990 thank you. It definitely feels like a marathon. It was very emotional. Feeling fine now but I’ll be a wreck test day. My egg collection was actually 3 years ago. We’ve had a few breaks in between cycles. I’m paying yearly storage fees so another reason to do a double transfer before September invoice comes. I tried up the bum but it just made me was to go 💩 (again tmi 🤣)
fingers crossed for you and partner for test day xx

KatyTTC · 13/08/2023 21:56

@JandL2020 i was also going to suggest up the bum! what a ‘bummer’ (sorry!) that doesn’t work for you ☹️. Stock up
on pantyliners!! Good excuse to lie down for half an hour every lunch time…!

@Lily1990 you are so lovely. Thank you. Been an emotional weekend and I'm
dreading testing tomorrow. Even if it’s a faint line it won’t mean anything as you can get a faint line 10-12 days after a trigger shot from the hcg in the shot so either it’s totally blank and then I know, or it’s faint line in which case I’ve got to test 48 hours later… 🙈. I’ve been particularly emotional today (not around my mum but had to leave the supermarket as I suddenly got so upset and then saw my brother for a walk this arvo and again just bawled 🙈) so of course now I’m convinced my period is on the way..! Urgh! Life!!!

how are you feeling? Xxxx

JandL2020 · 14/08/2023 07:51

@KatyTTC 🤣 yes I look forward to my lunch time half hour nap 😊
sorry you’ve been feeling rubbish 😞hope you have a better week xx

KatyTTC · 14/08/2023 09:14

Quick update. A very strong negative…!! Back to square 1! Gosh it’s exhausting isn’t it 😩 xx

Lily1990 · 14/08/2023 09:28

@KatyTTC aww you poor thing. The anxiety and dread leading up to a test is hard enough alone, so to have additional worries about your mum on top of that must be unbearable. I have had the trigger shot before and had stress about faint lines which made the whole process harder too. Hope it goes well today.

I'm a week away from testing but started to reflect a bit on it (as was deciding whether to test early or later because of partner's bday) and already feeling fed up! I will just have to distract myself this week and try not to ruminate. I think I need therapy for a few days a month around test day!

@JandL2020 ahh that's interesting to know, my (naive) understanding of IVF is egg collection is one of the most physically challenging parts? So great that you can use the eggs for multiple transfers. Glad you are feeling fine now! Haha understand about up the bum 😂enjoy your lunchtime nap! xx

Lily1990 · 14/08/2023 10:34

@KatyTTC I didn’t see your message when I posted, argh that sucks, I’m so sorry! This is exhausting. Be kind to yourself today, thinking of you xx

KatyTTC · 14/08/2023 13:57

Thank you @Lily1990 ❤️ xxx
totally hear you on needing therapy around test day!! I don’t think the steroids help.
Ive felt soooo jittery/hyper/anxious the last week or so.
Has anyone else had this with steroids? Xxx

MeganBistram · 14/08/2023 13:58

@KatyTTC sorry to hear that, I had a very strong negative and then I didn't come on my period and now 13 weeks in apparently I was pregnant :)

@Hope646 @whatsgoingon22 How are you both feeling?

@JandL2020 I am glad the transfer went as well as it could, I keep everything possible crossed for you and possibly little twins :). I go with up the bum also.. I find it makes me fart at first and then settles down if I hold it in ( sorry TMI)

I had my 13 week CRP scan with the fetal medicine doc today, they love to measure me ahead but I will stick with the NHS. He did the stats and I was low for downs and edwards but moved to high risk for Patau as the baby's heartbeat was 176 which is high... however he did only do it once so It could be a one off.. everything else on the scan suggests I don't have it and everything was perfectly formed.. but now obviously the anxiety is of the scale and I had the NIPT done there and then to hopefully put that risk back to low. Gosh its a process ladies...

In other weird but good news.. I can 100% feel the flutters already.. I had them early with my son ( 16 weeks ) but In certain positions I can deffo feel them :) xx

KatyTTC · 14/08/2023 14:21

@MeganBistram your message about using progesterone up the bum has cheered me right up 🤣🤣🤣!!
my friend was given scarily high odds for downs which then came down after some more tests and their little girl is 100% perfect. I think sometimes, as you say, one thing slightly over the normal range can up the odds but 99% of the time it’s all absolutely fine.

how incredible you can feel flutters!! That must be so reassuring and comforting ❤️.

@JandL2020 @whatsgoingon22 @Hope646 how are you all doing? Xx

star2022 · 14/08/2023 17:50

Hi everyone, I've been off the forums for a while but I'm back for a bit now. It's sooo lovely to hear of positive stories, congrats to you all who are reaching milestones you haven't before. I thought I'd come on and update you as I have been on superovulation at CRP for the last 5 months.

I'm going on to my 6th cycle with them now, not sure how I've managed to do them back to back but its been super hard. For my first SO cycle I was told I had a polyp so I had to have surgery to get it removed the following month, I then continued on the SO cycles.

The first 4 cycles I have been on 5mg letrozole with approx 2 dominant follicles each time and great lining however still Bfns.

The 5th cycle I was told to increase my dose to 7.5mg, but I ended up with only 1 follicle, this was also a bfn last week. I stopped progesterone last week wednesday and still haven't come on my period, its usually here after 3 days. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm definitely not pregnant as I've been having stark white tests. The month before I was also 9 days late (very unusual for me) but I'd had spotting from AF due date so I kinda new it was coming but this month, I've had nothing. Getting worried all these meds are causing more harm than good!

Whenever AF arrives, I've been told to increase letrozole to 10mg this month for the final month, (not sure if thats gonna do anything if 7.5mg didn't?) but I will just go with whats planned. After this, I will have to go back to IVF 😒

@KatyTTC I do get really hyper with steroids like loads of energy, and my anxiety is all over the place as soon as i start letrozole and steroids all the way till i've stopped all the meds. What cycle are you on, I remember speaking to you a while ago!

JandL2020 · 14/08/2023 18:29

@KatyTTC so sorry hun 😞 I’ll be having a large glass of white wine if I get a negative next week.
@Lily1990 stimulation and egg collection were not too bad but once I was pregnant I was in so much pain and had severe abdominal bloating. Clinic denied I had hyper stimulation. My twins had no chance because my body was in such a poor state. you could see how swollen my ovaries were on the scan it was awful. Frozen transfers are relatively easier…one cycle I was on down regulation for and effectively HRT and I reacted badly to that.
i’ve never had a non medicated cycle but would be tempted to as there would be little or no side effects. Although you have to have perfect cycles etc and trust that your lining is thick enough for transfer.
@MeganBistram that must have been scary to hearing that..i hope the next tests settle things and everything is fine. It’s great you having early movements too.
@star2022 so sorry the ovulation rounds havent worked so far. I think in nhs they try up to 6 rounds don’t they? Have you had IVF before? You said “back to”. I think it would be dependent on your age as to whether try another cycle or go straight to IVF. For me if this round doesn’t work (or next 2 frozen) then that’s me done IVF/having a baby unless by some miracle it ever happens naturally. I’m 37 next feb, overweight (due to ivf stress of past few years) and only one tube, so the chances of me happening naturally are slim. iVF has completely taken over my life but I’m trying to carry on as much as I can with work and doing nice things. It’s tough
does anyone know if CRP offer counselling? X

star2022 · 14/08/2023 18:48

@JandL2020 hey! Thanks for your reply, yes nhs do 6 rounds but i'm under CRP for them so each month is literally costing £750 a pop 🥴 and it'll be my 6th one this month.

I did IVF last year, 4 transfers, 2 egg retrievals and had 3 BFNs and 1 chemical. Ended up with PTSD from it, so decided to give myself a break and try SO instead, which also seems to have been pointless. I just don't understand why none of this is working, I'm 34 been trying for the last 4 years with unexplained. If I did ivf again, it would be my 3rd retrieval 😒

I know what you mean about it taking over your life, I've been told by dr edge to go back to ivf after this 6th one so I might need to try CRP for ivf next time, as being under Create last year just didn't work well for me, each cycle was just stress and consultants not listening to what i had to say, not getting proper monitoring and they only do mild too which i'm guessing wasn't the right treatment for us. Dr shehata told me Create don't do ''proper ivf'' so i guess my cycles were for nothing but trauma!

Sorry I dont know if CRP offer counselling, but i really wish you all the best fingers crossed for you!

Hope646 · 14/08/2023 19:07

@JandL2020 congratulations on your transfer. Very happy it went well. I have got everything crossed for you. I have got my 6 week scan on 23rd August too. I have got everthing crossed for you.

@KatyTTC sorry if this wasn't your month. Don't be too harsh on yourself. i know it is always hard to have hopes and then seeing the negative really hurts. Still don't lose hope yet, you still have few days to potentially see a positive.

@Lily1990 good luck for your test. hoping this would be your month.

@MeganBistram so happy you can feel flutters. that must be really reassuring. it must be a beautiful feeling.
I am in very early stage of preg (i really hope i still am preg)..for the last couple of days, the only symptom i started feeling is exhaustion. i kept thanking God, please God, give me more symptoms, i want to feel more exhaustion..hahah just to be reassured. I wouldn't even mind morning sickness, just want to feel preg and reassured. The anxiety does get bad sometimes. I had another HCG blood test this morning...result should hopefully arrive tomorrow

@star2022 good to hear from you. my period arrived after 3 days of stopping progesterone in my previous cycles. How many days are you post ovul.? I hope they have a plan in place for you if the SO hasn't worked so far. Sending you good wishes your way xx

JandL2020 · 14/08/2023 19:33

@star2022 really sorry to hear you’ve had a really rough time with it 😞 Create deal more with low AMH don’t they? Did CRP re recheck your AMH/follicle count? Assume they did. I’ve heard really good things about Kings, so I would definitely explore them as an option. I would have if I was doing a fresh round. At your age I would expect you to produce good quality eggs. Did you have your OH checked too? Guess there are no issues on his side? Xx

JandL2020 · 14/08/2023 19:38

@Hope646 best of luck for your scan. Exhaustion is a good sign.
I have no signs yet but it only 2 days after my transfer. Perhaps a little heaviness …but then that’s probably all the Medication I’m on and me just being a fattie xx

Fisky123 · 14/08/2023 23:12

Hi All, it’s great to hear the positive stories and to see you all supporting each other. I’ve just had my results from prof S and feel positive to be starting. I have high nkc count and high activation and will be taking hydroxychlorquine and high strength lipids. I haven’t decided about SO yet and may wait a few months first before trying that. Lovely to meet you all 💜

MeganBistram · 15/08/2023 07:45

@KatyTTC gosh you really have been through it. Just a quick one have you tried taking the progesterone on day 4/5 DPO instead of from the first day? I have read on a lot of forums people who normally have been able to convince quickly have struggled because of the progesterone? It can definitely delay cycles.. I am not sure about the rest of the protocol having an impact or not.

@Fisky123 welcome to the group. I am glad you feel positive about having some answers.

@Hope646 dont worry about the no symptoms the drugs really can hide a lot of them.. sadly not the weight gain.

so I got home last night and had my NHS risk back and both were less than one in 5000 so it must have been the heart rate issue. My concern is reading up on it can mean something to do with my thyroid. Not sure if I should pick it up with CRP or not and test my thyroid again? Xx

harrietm87 · 15/08/2023 08:33

Hi all and sorry that you have found yourselves here! I’ve posted on threads like this a few times over the years - I’m a Mr S success story - had 2 kids on the protocol after 4 mcs.

Im trying again but this time my GP has agreed to prescribe the protocol. I just wanted to check it js the same as back when I did it - 25mg of pred + omeprazole+ baby aspirin for 10 days post ovulation then test? Also with dc1 I didn’t taken progesterone til positive test but I think with dc2 it was added from ovulation too?

I hope everyone is surviving ok. I’m also happy to answer any questions if that helps anyone. I did SO for both.
