Dr Shehata advice

Wolfemum · 10/02/2023 08:58

Hello, I am currently experiencing my 3rd consecutive miscarriage and my 2nd MMC. I have been told I will now be referred to the RMC unit but due to my age (42) i think I need to go privately and I was wondering what your opinions are on Dr Shehata? I've heard he has a brilliant reputation but is quite focused on NK cells and less on other things. Can anyone share their thoughts, opinions experiences?
My first pregnancy was healthy and resulted in my 6 year old boy but the last 2 MMC we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but then no growth or heartbeat at 7/8 weeks.
Many thanks for reading

@KatyTTC @Lily1990 thank you for checking up.. I am feeling better now (atleast for the moment). My hcg result came back yesterday and it was a big relief to see the double rise again. i know i still have a long way to go but I really needed this. I feel "cautiously confident" too 😁Everytime I or my husband talk about something positive about preg or the baby or plan something ahead, I keep stopping ourselves. It's sad how after losses, there is more fear than celebration. I feel even a bit of excitement will cause everything go wrong again with me. But I feel positive. I have got my next hcg test next week with the GP.

@KatyTTC how are you feeling? How many days you have got left until you can take a tests?

@Lily1990 my ovulation was always on time but I feel the medication really changed it. Even the nurse at CRP mentioned sometimes it takes time for your body to get used to the medication. This cycle that I fell preg which was my third cycle under the protocol, i don't even know when I ovulated. My cycle has always been 27-29 days. I started tracking ovu everyday from Day 7 but until day 18 i did not see any surge but on day 22 I tested positive for preg after I had spotting and later i realized it was implantation bleeding. The test was showing 2-3 weeks preg. It still does not make sense to me. The surge on ovulation tracker may have been affected by preg hormones. I have read it does sometimes. So it only makes me think I may have ovulated earlier or it was never picked by ovul kits. I was using both digital and non digital the whole time also. But i would suggest you dtd every 2 days if possible to avoid missing any chance. Wish you all the luck xx

@JandL2020 I have got everything crossed for you for this Saturday. I hope your partner will join you too. It is sad that he feels that way. That is a huge burden to carry that feeling with him. I wish only positive things come your ways 🙏
re. back pain. I felt that too but mild pain and not always. Not sure what was causing that. could have been my work or progesterone.

@whatsgoingon22 how are you feeling? Good luck for your scan tomorrow. sending positive vibes your way ❤

JandL2020 · 09/08/2023 13:16

@Hope646 thats great news about your hcg. Fingers and toes crossed for you.
back pain has eased a little.my sun lounger is so comfy and I don’t want to go back to work 🤣 xx

ncedforthisprofessionalquestion · 09/08/2023 13:39

@MeganBistram, what a lovely picture - congratulations! @Hope646, fingers crossed for a continuing upwards trajectory!

Thank you all so much for sharing your fees info with me. That is really helpful, as it gives me a bit of insight into what/how it would work.

Does anyone have any insight into waiting times for a first appointment after contacting the clinic?

JandL2020 · 09/08/2023 18:28

@ncedforthisprofessionalquestion mine was over a months wait for dr s

whatsgoingon22 · 09/08/2023 22:04

Hey all!
@KatyTTC and @Hope646, thank you for the well wishes. CRP only replied to say they would let Dr Edge know - nothing else!! I guess we will see tomorrow❤️🙏🏻. The brown spotting has eased and is now about once a day which is a relief - obvs still not out of the woods but better than how it was at the weekend 😭🙈. Superrrrr bloated from the meds like I look huge. @Hope646 that’s amazing news about the HCG!!! So happy for you! When did you say your first scan is? Yes I hear you re: not getting too excited, it’s so unfair and others have no clue how cautious/fearful we are in this position. @KatyTTC good luck with the TWW and the testing when it’s time- we’re all thinking of you and wishing you the best 😘 xx

@Lily1990 how are you doing? I hope that’s the case but yes as you know it’s so triggering seeing any type of bleeding after so many m/cs that started in the same way 😞

@JandL2020 good luck with your transfer darling 🙏🏻 rooting for you 🥰! So annoying about the meds and the GP 🙈why do they get so stingy with these things that can really make our lives easier. Also yes have had some lower back pain at times- my posture is awful though so could be that 🫣I can relate also, my hubby feels the same, thinks he is bad luck. We basically got married almost 4 years ago (didnt realise but was pregnant at the wedding) - found out weeks after and we were absolutely ecstatic and thought ‘oh this is so perfect’ then had our first missed m/c at 11weeks. Haven’t been the same since and life has been a struggle at times - honestly feels like a fog. I’m sorry for your losses @JandL2020 and @KatyTTC ❤️xxx

@jchars7 yes we did the fragmentation as o/h is a few years older than me so wanted to rule all out. His came back fine thankfully.

@ncedforthisprofessionalquestion ours also took about a month/6 weeks but I think Dr S was on holidays at the time.

xx

MeganBistram · 10/08/2023 07:08

@whatsgoingon22 good luck today darling.. it’s great news to hear the spotting has lessened. Hopefully this week has been slightly less anxious for you. I have my Funchal scan with CRP on Monday and even after seen a bouncy baby this Monday I dread every scan and go into some sweaty panic whenever I go lol. Also same.. I’m 13 weeks Saturday and look about the same as I did at 28 weeks with my first.. the bloating and fat face is next level but the horrific taste is lessening and my energy is coming back.. even went to the gym on Monday and ran 3k ( slowly haha )

@Hope646 gosh I am so very pleased for you this really is amazing news ❤️. How are you feeling about the first scan?

@JandL2020 i am keeping everything crossed for you for tomorrow and that both of those little embryos implant and the two week wait doesn’t feel like an eternity xx

KatyTTC · 10/08/2023 10:34

Girls there’s so much positive news on here!! Loving it.

@Hope646 im over the moon for you. Do you have a date for a first scan yet?

@whatsgoingon22 good luck today. Please keep us posted. Been thinking about you so much.

@ncedforthisprofessionalquestion like others I think it was 5 weeks to get our first appointment but he was on holiday for a bit of that as it was Feb half term and then March Easter holiday.

Day 10 is Sunday but I’m staying with my mum until Sunday eve as she’s having some tests done at the mo (a liver biopsy as I type) as she’s got some worrying symptoms so I’m going to wait until I’m home on Monday to test.
I know everyone’s stressed about all this at the best of times but I am quietly worried that because im so concerned about my mum at the mo and not sleeping very well it’s going to have a negative affect ☹️. Probably totally crazy but we’re all neurotic now aren’t we??!! As my sister in law always says (she had loads of ivf and now has two gorgeous boys ❤️) baby’s are conceived in war zones and everyone doing fertility treatment is really stressed!!

sending so much love and luck to all xxx

whatsgoingon22 · 10/08/2023 13:56

Hey @KatyTTC and @MeganBistram thank you thank you thank you for the love xxx happy to report that all was okay today❤️🙏🏻heart rate was 168pm and Dr Edge was happy with all- seem to be one day behind (8wks 2days)but I’m hoping that’s cos of my cycle 🙏🏻apparently the hematoma is just located above the neck of the womb which she explained is why the spotting has continued. Back again in two weeks and hopefully all will be okay then. Have an nhs scan next week too. Ahhh it’s such a rollarcoaster, I’m so grateful that everything is okay but still so nervous and cautious after all the past experiences 🙈😭@MeganBistram did you have the harmony test? Ps yes I also look about 4 months pg currently with the bloat and my face is huge as is my appetite 😂had the sweaty palms also and absolutely hate getting my floof out and inspected on top of it all 😂😂

@KatyTTC sorry to hear about your mum❤️I completely understand your fears and thoughts.I hope everything goes well for her❤️ My mum was diagnosed with early onset dementia a few years ago and it’s now getting worse. I’m going back home to see her this weekend but I always come back so low and down after it and worrying it’s going to happen to me 🙈🙈🙈
try not to worry too much, hopefully the symptoms reflect something minor. I think your sister in law is probably right, there is always going to be something we are worried about in this situation.

@ncedforthisprofessionalquestion I think you mentioned failing placenta a few pages back, I mentioned today about my previous low papp- a to Dr edge and she said that they do the testing for it around 12weeks and then if they are worried about pre-eclampsia/reduced birth size they can create a plan of medication to try and support the pregnancy in the long term. Not sure if that helps but just to let you know xxx

jchars7 · 10/08/2023 14:09

@whatsgoingon22 @KatyTTC @Lily1990 @JandL2020 dL2020 Thanks so much for your replies. xx @whatsgoingon22 this is such wonderful news, so happy to hear it!

KatyTTC · 10/08/2023 14:38

Ahhhhh what incredible news @whatsgoingon22 and so good to know why the spotting has continued! Did she say there may be more? So if there is it hopefully won’t rattle you too much? Easier said than done, I know!

I'm so thrilled for you!

xxx

MeganBistram · 10/08/2023 14:39

@whatsgoingon22 AMAZING news, must be such a relief to have a reason for the spotting, hopefully it clears up in the coming weeks and stops :). One day behind is still perfect.. especially as the margin for error at this point is something like 0.1mm.
I have not done the Harmony but have booked with the Fetal doctor for my next scan on Monday. I wanted to see the results of that but I probably will do it. I won't do it at CRP though, will prob time it as an interim scan at maybe 18 weeks?

@KatyTTC sorry to hear this and that your mum is not well. Try not to worry to much about the stress, when I think about the strain this little bean must have been under with my anxiety they must be made of some robust stuff :)

xx

JandL2020 · 10/08/2023 17:45

@whatsgoingon22 thats fantastic news xx
@MeganBistram are you finding the steroids keeping you awake a bit during the night? I was highly anxious this morning. Luckily a friend of my mine was free this afternoon so we went for a walk and drinks at a nice pub (can recommend tenquarary 0 % gin and fever tree tonic) yum yum…the barman asked if I wanted a single or double shot 🤣🤣
got some kitchen desighs under way too today…quote wayy more expensive than expected so more shopping around arghh.
still enough to keep my mind busy during the two week wait I guess.
im planning to go london next week and see a play with a friend…got some tickets for £5 each.
not sure if I should be completely resting or just carry on, maybe wear a mask cos london pullotion?
i’m so paranoid 😞but don’t want to sit at home all day being a nervous wreck xx

MeganBistram · 10/08/2023 18:02

@JandL2020 i never have had an issue with the steroids and sleep.. just fatness lol. I think the progesterone counters it and makes me sleepy :)
I would say do what makes you feel best but if it makes you feel any better I ran, went to a festival and drank in my 2 week wait and all seems ok so far so if it distracts you and makes you less anxious I would do it ❤️ xx

JandL2020 · 10/08/2023 18:40

@MeganBistram i was going to say well done on your run. You inspired me to go for a walk today. I wanted to do 5k brisk but my friend has a bad back so went easy and was nice to just catch up and have a giggle 🤭 xx

ncedforthisprofessionalquestion · 10/08/2023 21:43

Had a slightly frustrating talk with my GP today, who mentioned that if I were to go private, they would not be willing to refer for any testing on the NHS. She said she is happy to refer me in general to a NHS specialist obstetrician, but does not know who to refer me to, so if I could just go out and do my research and get back to them. So, I am also making inquiries to see who there is within the NHS, who might be able to assist.

The GP also said to me today - you want to make sure you find the one with the right expertise - as you can't spend the time and money twice. It is just really hard to determine who that is! I guess I am just worried I am not ending up with the right expert.

Do you all have the impression that Dr Shehata is comfortable declining cases, if he feels something is outside of his area of expertise?

Thanks to all on sharing your timeline. I really appreciate it. It gives me confidence, that once we would take the step, it would not be a question of months of waiting.

@whatsgoingon22, congratulations on being so far already, and thank you for your comment on Papp-A, that is really helpful.

Lily1990 · 10/08/2023 22:27

Hey girls, quick one (and I’ll reply to everyone properly tomorrow!) but I FINALLY had my positive OPK first thing this morning. We dtd this morning, do you reckon we should do it tonight too or wait until tomorrow morning? Not sure if doing it too much is counterproductive for sperm count! Some guidance says after a positive OPK you will ovulate within 12-36 hours 🤔 others says within 24-36 hours so that’s throwing me a bit!

ncedforthisprofessionalquestion · 10/08/2023 22:53

I don't know if this helps, but perhaps looking into the sperm-meets-egg-plan helps for that question, @Lily1990. I think they have an optimised timing for things, once you have a positive OPK.

Lily1990 · 10/08/2023 23:08

Thank you for the quick reply @ncedforthisprofessionalquestion! Have looked at SMEP and think I’m over thinking it and we have covered our bases by doing it the day of positive OPK, the following day, and 2 days before the test xx

JandL2020 · 11/08/2023 07:26

@Lily1990 excellent news. I would just go with flow but try and do it as much as possible…mornings evenings double up in one day and change up the positions 🤩 Best of luck Xx

ncedforthisprofessionalquestion · 11/08/2023 09:23

@Lily1990, that should suffice! Fingers crossed for you.

Hope646 · 11/08/2023 14:42

@whatsgoingon22 wooohoooo such a relief. I am over the moon for you, Can't imagine what you were goign through after bleeding and clots. I am so happy all is well for you. I am glad your next scan is next week too.

@MeganBistram welldone for keeping with up with the gym. I am not sure how I feel about my scan. ofc fear is there but i am trying to feel hopeful.
There is always surprises every time I try to stay calm. This might be TMI but last night me and my DH had intercouse and there was blood when we were done. it was bright red. when i went to pee and on the tissue. this morning I had dark drown spotting too. I am not sure what caused that. I am feeling mild cramps also. some sharp pains that come and go. I am trying not to think of the worst. but all my previous MC happened around week 5. My next blood test is on Monday.
The last few days time is moving too slow.

Has anyone experience bleeding after sex during early pregnancy?

@KatyTTC good luck for Sunday. Got everything crossed for you. I am so sorry to hear about your mum's condition. Try not to stress too much. Hopefully it not something serious.

@ncedforthisprofessionalquestion thank you so much. Have you booked your appointment yet?

@JandL2020 hope you have been taking good rest and enjoying the warm weather. Good luck for tomorrow. Let us know how it goes xx

@Lily1990 yaaayy.. that's great. I would do atleast once a day... so yesterday, today and tomorrow. That should do. fingers crossed for you xx

Lily1990 · 11/08/2023 15:32

Thanks ladies!! We have been TTC on and off for nearly 2 years but still find the timings a bit confusing. Our previous doctor told us to do it every other day around ovulation but I never trusted that, it didn't seem enough! We will do tomorrow as well but have my partner's parents staying in the next room which isn't ideal!

@whatsgoingon22congrats on your scan yesterday, I'm so happy for you!

@Hope646 I think it's quite common for sex to lead to bleeding/spotting in pregnancy, due to irritation of the cervix. And mild cramping too is totally normal. But probably good to speak to the doctors at CRP about that and whether they recommend abstaining for a bit!

@KatyTTC I'm so sorry you're going through these worries about your mum, it must be really hard. I have everything crossed that she is okay. Hope you have some nice plans this weekend to relax and take your mind off everything.

@JandL2020 wishing you the very best of luck for your transfer!! Xxx

JandL2020 · 11/08/2023 17:35

@Hope646 @Lily1990
thank you ladies.
had to go clinic today and have progesterone test and scheduled tomorrow for 12. Still some confusion about how many embryos plus grading I am transferring.I have said several times I would like a grade a and c and yet the embryologist said “2 grade cs” and said “risks of multiples will be explained to you before procedure” arghh it does frustrate me. I made up my mind already! My other half got me a lucky Pandora charm says “luck” and “courage” quite sweet. No an engagement ring but hey ho cant have everything 🤣🤣@Lily1990 best of luck 🤞
xx

MeganBistram · 11/08/2023 18:48

@Hope646 i would help answer that but since basically a week after positive test me and DH have not had sex.. I feel rank and rough and I have just not been in the mood. As my symptoms and anxiety lessen I think he might get in luck.. although I feel so fat it’s hard to get in the mood :) but yes bleeding / spotting is very normal

@JandL2020 how confusing.. surely they have to do as you wish? There are a huge number of successful multiple pregnancy also :)

@Lily1990 we had the rule of every two days.. but I am regular so it was easier for us 🥰 just go go go haha

xx

JandL2020 · 11/08/2023 22:11

@MeganBistram very confusing and I don’t think they realise the stress it causes especially with my history +my history of complaining!! Xx
