Dr Shehata advice

Wolfemum · 10/02/2023 08:58

Hello, I am currently experiencing my 3rd consecutive miscarriage and my 2nd MMC. I have been told I will now be referred to the RMC unit but due to my age (42) i think I need to go privately and I was wondering what your opinions are on Dr Shehata? I've heard he has a brilliant reputation but is quite focused on NK cells and less on other things. Can anyone share their thoughts, opinions experiences?
My first pregnancy was healthy and resulted in my 6 year old boy but the last 2 MMC we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but then no growth or heartbeat at 7/8 weeks.
Many thanks for reading

Morning all.
I put off testing until today as I just didn’t want to know the result! Its negative. I’m disappointed of course but it’s only the first month of trying since the humira. Onwards and upwards!

Thinking of you tomorrow @Lily1990
@whatsgoingon22 also thinking of you getting your results.

Everything crossed for you both xx

whatsgoingon22 · 16/07/2023 10:21

Hi @KatyTTC i was thinking of you too and wondering if you tested. Sorry it was negative. Only thing I can say is the months where I had negative tests I used that time to do something fun that I mightn’t be able to do if pregnant. big love and wishes for next month ❤️❤️ no sign of my results on the NHS app yet anyways! Still don’t have any crazy symptoms, tender boobs, bloat and inconsistent tiredness…
I had intralipids on Friday and got in a bit of a barney about the blood tests (they were trying to make me get them done there on the day even though I have had them all done this week through my GP but just no results back). Luckily I had a copy of full bloods done from my GP in March (for different reasons) and she took them (begrudgingly)!
Big love to all this Sunday xxx

KatyTTC · 16/07/2023 13:19

@whatsgoingon22 i don’t normally get symptoms until about 6 weeks (other than intermittent tiredness) so don’t see that as a bad sign. It’s still very early days.

What bloods do you have to have done? Is this for everyone who has a positive test? Wasn’t aware of this. More expense 😩🙈!!

thank you for your message. I’m going to have a G&T or 2 watching the tennis (we live in Wimbledon so all very exciting!) and get a takeaway tonight ❤️. Great idea about doing something you wouldn’t do pregnant. I’ll have a think. Skydiving springs to mind but I’m not sure I want to do that 🤣!!

xx

Lily1990 · 16/07/2023 13:32

@KatyTTC I’m sorry it’s negative - I was thinking of you this weekend and wondering how it went. I’m sure I will be in the same boat tomorrow morning as have had no symptoms and it took us 5 cycles last time. Hope you’re feeling ok and enjoy Wimbledon with G&Ts this afternoon! Onwards and upwards!
Sky dive is a great idea although quite extreme 😂 other things could be sushi / seafood dinner, boozy night out, spa day, beauty treatments, rollercoasters. I have 2 weddings and a weekend away coming up next cycle so at least will be able to drink and let my hair down at those if negative tomorrow. And maybe I’ll treat myself to a facial too if I can afford it on top of more intralipids!

MeganBistram · 16/07/2023 16:55

@whatsgoingon22 honestly they really do annoy me at times. They hold you over a barrel to do everything with them by keeping your drugs hostage :(

I assume it was the well being bloods ( £290) that was the ones I argued about them with on Wednesday as I had them booked for the next day at the GP and they refused to give me anymore meds.

@KatyTTC sorry to hear that.. the girls are right.. go to town this month and enjoy all those things that being not pregnant you can do guilt free :)

I am 9 weeks tomorrow… and the constant hungover / bad tasting things are taking its toll.. but it’s nice to have reassurance I suppose. I have booked a private scan for Friday as that is the latest we loss one of ours 9.3days.
my next CRP one is on my birthday on the 31st.

@Lily1990 good luck for tomorrow xx

JandL2020 · 16/07/2023 22:05

Hello all
hope you are all doing okay.
sorry😞 @KatyTTC. Do something nice and drink the wine. I have a spa day booked next week.
@whatsgoingon22 blimey can’t believe they wouldn’t take your blood results 🤣 ridiculous.
they Want to see me even if my ivf cycle fails. Which is theory has nothing to do with them 🤷‍♀️it wouldn’t be classed as pregnancy loss.
@MeganBistram did they give you the meds in the end? What’s including in the well being bloods?good sign you are having symptoms. When I was pregnant with twins I felt horrendous - then suddenly felt fine. That’s when you need to worry. X

Lily1990 · 17/07/2023 08:13

My test was negative too. Actually decided to test yesterday afternoon as couldn’t stand the suspense of waiting (but repeated this morning and both were stark white). I thought I’d feel ok as it was only the first month but felt surprisingly upset. I guess I’m worried about how long it will take to conceive again, and every negative test each month makes me feel shit for a couple of days! But I will pick myself up and try to plan something nice to treat myself xx

KatyTTC · 17/07/2023 11:38

@Lily1990 I'm so sorry. I could have written your post myself. I totally understand how you feel and I’m also now fretting that’s it’s going to take forever to conceive again ☹️.
Would you consider doing the super ovulation programme? I think I’m going to give it a go as it can’t hurt and now I’m nearly 3 years down the track I’m running out of patience!
As you say the first couple of days are rubbish so I hope you’re keeping busy and can do a few nice things to treat
yourself ❤️ xx

Lily1990 · 17/07/2023 13:43

Thanks @KatyTTC , it really helps to know I'm not alone in this! As much as I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Yes I think we'll do the super ovulation programme if it hasn't worked after 3 cycles. Another thing I'm considering is a HyCosy, as they can boost fertility and I conceived the month I had one (and know a few others who were the same).

When do you think you'd start the super ovulation programme? It definitely helps psychologically to have a plan for next steps if this current programme doesn't work.

Hope our periods start soon, this in between stage is the worst I find! And hope you're holding up ok ❤ PMT hormones combined with a BFN is the worst!xx

Hope646 · 17/07/2023 19:11

@KatyTTC @Lily1990 sorry this wasn’t your month. The feeling is not great, it’s never easy especially when there is a treatment involved now but I keep putting my mind on next cycle. I am not sure how long I will be able to stay positive for. it’s a non-stop cycle, I really feel I need to give myself a break. Maybe a holiday will keep us going.

This is going to be my third cycle and really hoping it will work this time because we are doing everything by the book. Unless there is something wrong that I don’t know about because I never struggled to conceive before.
if not successful then I might consider HyCosy. Good shout Lily.
When I asked CRP about super ovulation success rate, on average it works on 4th-6th cycle for most of their patients which still seem long in my opinion.

whatsgoingon22 · 18/07/2023 10:40

@MeganBistram so i think it was because they hadn’t had any bloods for me in over 6 months but they probably would have said I needed them any ways! Really think they are trying to push for those extras any which way!
I got my Hcg and prog results back, Hcg had doubled luckily🙏🏻 progesterone was 99nmol/L on the first day and two days later it was 85 nmol/L …….. not sure what to make of the decrease 🫤have asked the GP for another repeat of both anyways…..
Love to you all - hope you’re okay @KatyTTC and @Lily1990 xx

KatyTTC · 18/07/2023 15:16

@whatsgoingon22 amazing news!! Keeping everything crossed for you! Have you got a scan booked?

@Lily1990 I totally know what you mean. I’ve found this group such a comfort as lots of friends have had fertility treatment but none have struggled with recurrent miscarriage so it’s been so lovely to find people in the same boat.

I reckon we’ll give SO a try next cycle. 4-6 months initially doesn’t sound great but if you think that the couples trying SO are most likely going to be those who are taking longer to conceive than the average couple, the numbers are pretty good. I don’t know if this is the case, that’s my assumption. I think it’s worth a shot.

hycosy also a good idea. Will keep this in mind.

@Hope646 its so so tough. Its
tough on relationships, tough physically and emotionally. It’s all consuming and exhausting. I think a break every now and then is no bad thing. I loved having a few months break while the humira worked. I felt normal again! Hang in there ❤️. Are you in your tww this cycle? Xx

MeganBistram · 19/07/2023 09:31

@whatsgoingon22 amazing news, so happy for you, I think from what I read with progesterone it can vary depending on the time of the day etc. So hopefully not anything to worry about :)

@Hope646 @KatyTTC @Lily1990 Its such a rollercoaster of emotion's, its all consuming trying to conceive and then even more consuming once you do conceive.

Ladies I need all your positive vibes and luck sending my way. I am supposed to be 9+2 today and on Monday those lovely symptoms keeping me sane have practically fully gone, This is exactly what happened in my last two losses and I am terrified. I have a private scan friday but I am just not prepared for them to say those words to me again. Honestly I am sH8tting it :( xxx

whatsgoingon22 · 19/07/2023 10:40

Thank you both.
@MeganBistram don’t panic, trust me I know how you feel. I have been there so many times and your heart just sinks. I know I am way earlier than you and it’s not comparable but I felt the exact same last night. I’ve had barely any symptoms anyways but just didn’t have the ‘feeling’ anymore…. Just have to ignore it, hope and stay calm and carry on. Easier said than done but there is nothing I can do either way. Sorry if this is zero help but I have worried myself into a tizzy the last 5 times this has happened me and it didn’t change the outcome, just have to put my trust in all these drugs and hope and pray it will work out on this occasion. I turned into such an anxious control freak during the last few years. I even went to see a psychic to try and give me some guidance!!! Try and distract yourself with something nice each day until Friday if you can. Sending you all the love and positivity and remember this time is different xxx

@KatyTTC Hope you’re doing okay xx yes I have a scan booked for 28.07.23 so a bit to wait yet 🙈and the GP has refused to repeat my HCG test again….. not sure why it’s such an issue for them so not too happy about that 😡

Lily1990 · 19/07/2023 12:27

@MeganBistram don’t panic, it’s totally normal for symptoms to waiver and decrease especially as you are getting close to 10 weeks, which I think is the average time for the placenta to take over (leading to a reduction in symptoms). Perhaps you could send a message to the nurses at CRP to see if they could give you some reassurance? Or even bring your scan forward if you can’t stand the wait? I’m sure it is fine though, and I’m sending all the luck and positive vibes your way! ❤️

@KatyTTC hope youre doing ok and have started your period now. Mine came yesterday and it was a relief to have clarity, as I’d started to obsessively google stories of people with negatives on 10DPO who were actually pregnant (thinking maybe I could be!). SO next cycle sounds good and definitely worth a shot. Agree the 4-6 months is probably because the group includes people who struggle to conceive. Although I think it will end up being quite expensive with both the intralipids and scans for me (my cycle is quite unpredictable so can imagine I’d need multiple scans) so not sure how many months I’d be keen to do it back to back for 😔

@Hope646 i completely understand how you feel. It’s so confusing when you do everything by the book and it doesn’t work. Putting the emphasis on the next cycle helps to stay positive but it can be draining at times. I think a holiday will help, but for me I’ll have to make a conscious effort not to use the free time to google fertility stuff and get myself in a tizz. As that’s what I did earlier in the year 🤦🏼‍♀️. Maybe switching off phone Wi-Fi will help (would also be good generally!). Do you have a holiday coming up?

@whatsgoingon22 fantastic news your HCG levels doubled!! Your progesterone levels are still super high, so I don’t think you should be worried with a small dip. But I understand this is so hard with our histories - maybe if you need peace of mind you could ask your EPU to repeat as usually they are more helpful than the GP?

Love to all xx

Hope646 · 19/07/2023 16:32

@KatyTTC I am on day 11 of my 28 day cycle. waiting for my ovulation. I have done the ovulation test the last couple of days on clearblue digital and the strips that Megan recomended. no sign of ovulation yet. Usually at this stage I do atleast get flashy face but the last 3 days including today, it is just blanked face or no line on the strip.
This makes me nervous about not ovulating at all. Even last month was not very clear. I never had this issue before. I should find out in the next couple of days.
If this month is unsucessful also, we will definitely go for SO. That's a good point. Hopefully, the result will be sooner for couples who do not normally struggle to conceive.
@MeganBistram ahh lovely. I hate to imagine you having the feeling you are having this moment. I am confident it is not what you you think it is. With the treatment you are under, it won't happen again. You are in good hands. From what I know, the symptoms come and go. I know it is really hard for you until you have your scan. I have got everything crossed for you. Praying it all goes well for you ❤
@Lily1990 I am really bad with seaching everything on google and panicking over everything i read. I am really working on that and I like to believe i am not as bad as i used to be. maybe because i have searched read so much that there is not much left to seach 😂nothing planned as of yet. Hopefully somewhere next month but it all depends on whether or not we will be successful this month.

@whatsgoingon22 really happy for you. I am sure the wait until end of the month will feel longer to you than it is. Stay positive. I have got everything crossed for you.

Lara8 · 19/07/2023 20:02

@MeganBistram I'm thinking of you! It’s so easy to be triggered after miscarriages. Lots of distraction and self care for you! Like everyone has said, symptoms change.

KatyTTC · 20/07/2023 08:07

@MeganBistram how are you feeling today?
I feel for you so so much. Sending you an enormous e-hug. ❤️ xxx

ill reply to everyone else later xxx

MeganBistram · 20/07/2023 12:08

@Lily1990 @Hope646 @KatyTTC @whatsgoingon22 thank you so much for your kind words of support,

I managed to get an EPAU yesterday after breaking down to the midwife yesterday.

anyway all good news.. baby is cooking along nicely. Measuring exactly 9+3 which is I think the furthest we have got.. we can’t exactly remember but I think our middle one was 9+1 and we found out at 12 weeks.

While I am so grateful to get this far.. the anxiety is so bad.. I honestly don’t know how to cope over the next few weeks xx

Hope646 · 20/07/2023 13:16

That's great news @MeganBistram I am glad they managed to see you earlier. I can't imagine the anxiety you have been going through. Hopefully, the scan gives you some assurance. When is your nxt scan?

I did another ovulation test this morning both on clearblue and the strip you suggested. blank face and no line. no sign of ovulation. By now i should see a surge. I have a feeling I won't be ovulating at all. this has never happened before but since last cycle its been a mess.
I have noticed since last cycle, my cervical mucus has been very dry. I wonder whether my estrogen level is low and whether that is caused with the progesterone i was taking. What is fraustrating is paying £380 for intralipid and now having ovulation issue which i never did so that's gone waste too.

Has anyone been on Superovulaiton with CRP? how much does it cost?

MeganBistram · 20/07/2023 13:57

@Hope646 thankyou, Next scan is with CRP on my birthday the 31st of July.

What day are you meant to be on now? I have found after every miscarriage my cycle ovulation shifted by a couple of days. Have you been taken them twice a day? Post 6pm is best on the strips. I show nothing on the my first wee and then strong positive late afternoon.
I am not expert but I think having a period is a likely sign you are ovulating. The mucus I have is way before my LH surge and I could never get to correlate.
I would if I were you go to a private clinic ( not sure where you are based) and do ovulation tracking before you go down the CRP superovulation route. I think that can cost up to £700 odd a pop with the scans and meds.

Its so frustrating, but with my son I never one showed I had ovulated and who knew it 2 weeks later I didn't come on my period and 9 months on had my son.. so try not to loose hope :) xx

Lily1990 · 20/07/2023 14:49

@MeganBistram that is fantastic, i am so delighted for you!!! Phew. It is such a great sign for all of us that things are going well for you.
@Hope646 i feel your pain with the confusing and frustrating ovulation. The first couple of cycles I started tracking I worried I wasn’t ovulating at all as never seemed to get a positive, but it turned out I ovulate super late (between CD18 and CD29!). Once I realised that I don’t start testing until about cd15 and now always catch it (also can tell as I get cramps that coincide with positive test). I also worried about not having much cervical mucus so decided to use preseed as that does the same thing.

Did you say you’re using the cheap easy at home ovulation strips? At least with those ones you can use loads and not worry about the cost! I find them to be very effective. If I was you I’d keep persisting with the tests and you probably will get a positive soon. I did ovulation induction before and I think it may be similar cost to super ovulation at CRP, a scan is about £200 and you sometimes need to have 2, plus they want to trigger ovulation with an injection which is about £50-£75.

KatyTTC · 20/07/2023 21:22

@Hope646 I normally have a regular 28 day cycle, started testing on day 10 last cycle and nothing for days. I was convinced I’d started testing too late and missed it or I hadn’t ovulated etc and then suddenly on day 17 I got my positive! And it was right as I had a longer cycle than normal and got my period yesterday eve on day 32, Exactly 14 days after I ovulated. So hang in there and don’t lose hope.
I also got my positive in the evening so try and test twice a day.

@whatsgoingon22 how are you feeling?

@MeganBistram I feel for you so much.
I honestly don’t know how I’ll cope from
scan to scan (esp around the 6-8 week ones which is when I always miscarry) if I get
pregnant again. Horrendous. can you go back to your EPU and have another scan next week to split up the long wait until 31st?

@Lily1990 i think you’re only one day ahead of me on this cycle!

I’m currently staring at a packet of Letrozole wondering whether to go for the SO. I can’t decide!! Do I just take the letrozole this month and not have the scan/trigger shot and see if that’s enough to help or do I go whole hog and spend the money. For some reason the first scan I think is £490
and then scans after that per cycle are £200? The drugs aren’t a lot. Maybe £25 for the letrozole and around £60 for the trigger shot. I can’t quite remember but I can look in my folder if anyone wants exact figures.
It’s the scans that sting. Should I be naughty and take the letrozole on its own and not tell the clinic and see if it’s enough to help this month 🤔. Or for the sake of a month do I just go for it, scans and all? 😬

Lily1990 · 20/07/2023 22:25

@KatyTTC how much letrozole do you have (is it 2.5mg dosage or more) and have you taken it before? I was actually naughty and took 2.5mg last month from some old tablets and didn’t tell them. I’ve taken that dose before and know I respond fine to it (gives my cycle a bit of a boost) so thought I’d take it anyway. If you have a higher dose and/or haven’t taken before, I’d maybe err on the side of caution and have the scans to check you respond ok? As there’s a risk of hyper ovarian stimulation especially with higher doses. Can’t believe the first scan is £490, that’s daylight robbery!!

MeganBistram · 21/07/2023 07:49

@KatyTTC I mean I am a full advocate for trying and seeing and using that wonderful silence when you speak to the clinic haha. Also if you wanted to a private ovulation scan I think is max £150 when I was looking at ovulations tracking before.

also not sure if anyone is in the midlands but I did my “ovulation” intrilipids in Sutton for £200.. small saving I know but felt like less of a waste while TTC

I am going to try and get to the 31st.. I have centre parcs this weekend and at my parents all week so I am hoping this will keep me distracted. I keep waiting for the anxiety to lessen but I think ladies we just have to accept after loss we are just not going to ever be able to sit back and enjoy pregnancy xx
