Missed miscarriage and next period

Hello All

I had an erpc 3 weeks ago after a mmc. I want to ask others who have been through this horrendous experience when your next period came. Also, was it a lot lighter or heavier from your usual periods?

I went through the same thing - mine was 3.5 weeks ago. I haven't had a period yet but I did track my ovulation and I ovulated last Saturday, so would expect my period next week. It might be worth doing an ovulation test to get an idea of if your cycle has shifted and when to expect your period. The hospital warned me that it would probably be a bit heavier but not as bad as the bleeding after the ERPC.

Hi Emsler, thanks for responding. To be honest I haven't wanted to pee on any sticks & I chucked my ovulation predictor strips into the wood burner along with the maternity notes & I binned the folic acid . Hopefully I'll have a period in a week or so. I'vebeen carrying around tampons & pads in my bag as don't know what to expect.

Yes I did the same thing, hid everything away for a few weeks. Fingers crossed your period comes along as expected. Thinking of you.

When I had an ERPC after mmc (3 years ago) I had my next period 6 weeks later. I don't remember it being much heavier than usual but I think the cramps/feeling ill were worse than usual. to both of you, it's a horrid time.

Did either of you try again afterwards?

We're trying again now. I know you're supposed to wait for your first period but my GP said if I felt emotionally ready and was tracking ovulation for dating it was fine.

Yep DC2 and 3 have arrived since then!

42 so the odds are against me, one in 2 chance of this happening again at my age, I'm too scared really. At the same time I can't quite accept that it's over for me.

I had a reasonably normal period after my ERPc, just a bit clottier and it was around the expected time.

I am 43, just waiting to confirm a miscarriage as my pregnancy isn't progressing at the correct rate and the heartbeat was v slow at my last scan.

But to give you hope, I did conceive my son ( just turned 1) quickly at age 42 after 3 previous MCs within 9 months. I had some meds support, blood thinners and progesterone.

At 43, I fell pregnant again after 1 cycle, but this isn't to be. I am not stressing about my age, as its is just as common in younger women as it is with us more mature ladies.

We have decided we will try again asap. If you feel in your heart that its not over for you, keep going, you just need 1 good egg. Ask your gp if he/she would consider progesterone and baby aspirin next time.

Womble, so sorry to hear your news, thank you for responding. . I feel like I may be ovulating ( ewcm, slightly sore boobs) but I haven't done a predictor test as we're not ready to try again, might never be.

Period started today, seems fairly normal so far. have even begun to frighten myself by thinking about maybe mayybeee possibly trying again. Maybe.

So sorry this happened to you.

I had 3 missed mc, the first was at age 41. After the second, I paid to see a private Dr and it turned out the answer was half an aspirin!

Sorry I'm not trying to freak you out by saying that I had more than one just saying it's worth taking things into your own hands if you find yourself in the unfortunate position I did as NHS won't investigate until after 3

Anyway the real point of this post is that DD (now aged 5) came along when I was 45, completely naturally!
The only positive thing about the sheer misery of a mc is that you got pregnant and my Drs always said this is generally a v positive sign.

I know so many 40+ Mum's and it isn't as bleak as the papers would have you believe

I'm sorry that you've had to go through this horrible experience do many times.

I had my follow up appointment this evening with the consultant who did my erpc & he said the 1 in 2 statistic is inaccurate and that it would be very unlikely to happen again..... But I only have to read these boards to find that it does keep happening to lots of women, including women who've had a child before, without any intervention.

I'm going to take sime time to decide what to do, whether to try again or not

Oh my God. Period is ridiculously heavy

I'm bleeding through a super tampon & night time pad every 1.5 hours & this has been the case for 2 days now. I kept having to get up during the night to change. I called 111 for advice but they started asking me totally inappropriate questions after I told them that I'd had an erpc 4 weeks ago & this is my first period. He said "are you pregnant?". Fucking ridiculous. I put the'phone down & called the epu & the nurse said this amount of bleeding is normal & could carry on like this for around 5 days. Did anyone else bleed like this with their first period after the erpc?

Please go to your GP for a second opinion, my first period after MMC was a lot lighter although the pain and nausea was a lot worse.
Any bleeding of that amount should be investigated, the doc can also give you tablets to slow it down.

Yes definitely see your doctor - I was warned mine would likely be much heavier than normal (I'm just about to come on and the pain, nausea and fatigue are worse than when I was pregnant!) but that if it was heavy they could prescribe something to slow the bleeding down.

Did anyone very bad have stomach (i.e. not period but actually in your stomach) cramps with their first post-miscarriage period? Trying to figure out if these are related or something to worry about!

Called GP practice yesterday but no appointments until late next week. Bought some horrendous tena lady pads to wear with super plus tampax. The bleeding isn't quite as heavy this afternoon

I'm not bleeding through all of that heavy duty protection every 1.5 hours this afternoon like I have been for the last 2 days. It's still fairly heavy but not unmanageable like that.

I've just commented on another post that I'm having a horrendous first mc period. I'm on day 5 and it's still awful.

I've not had an eprc but I've had 2 second trimester losses.

My first period after both was much, much heavier and pretty painful. It wiped me out (along with the grief) all over again.

Sorry you've been through this. I wish I'd known cost time at I was convinced I had retained products and was in trouble for a day or so. I was much more prepared second time and so when it started I knew to write off a few days, stock up on maternity pads and painkillers.
