Does this happen during perimenopause / menopause? I’ve just seen a video about it and it’s horrifying. I’m 46 and do not want to believe this happens !!

Yep! I don’t know if it happens to everyone but it has me!

olderbutwiser · 09/12/2025 10:53

Well obviously we don’t need them once we can’t push out babies - no point in us seeking sex once we’re barren. (thanks evolution).

Luckily Oestrogen cream helps a lot. And Testosterone has restored my Youthful Enthusiasm.

Does the estrogen cream help with restoring sensation? I somehow still have a sex drive and want to participate but I find it harder to achieve orgasm because of it.

Testosterone will do that. I could barely have an orgasm but testosterone brought it back.

2old4thispoo · 09/12/2025 11:03

It sounds worse then it is!

I used to have sex every day but premature menopause wiped out my labido.

No amount or type of HRT has restored my sex drive or genitalia.

Currently on Elleste Solo, utrogestan, Tostran, Estring and Ovestin.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 09/12/2025 11:08

Yes, clitoral atrophy!

I had every symptom going, they came along one after another over a period of 10 years. The final one was inability to orgasm ( plus Uti's once a fortnight) I was on HRT already, which had solved all my other symptoms. When I added testosterone orgasms thankfully came back.

I hadn't really spent much time thinking about my body before but I'm just amazed at the impact of hormones on the body. But also how some women can be symptom free.

musicalcars · 09/12/2025 11:14

I have always been wary of taking hrt because I lost a lot of hair after child birth due to hormone changes and although it came back I am worried that it will have the same effect and I don’t want to go through that again. Has that happened to anybody?

RollyPollyBatFace · 09/12/2025 12:33

Just get yourself some vaginal HRT cream on prescription and jobs a good un. Apply it externally and internally and it’ll do the job - or at least, it’ll go a long way to helping, depending on where you are with it all when you start

that would be my best advice to any woman. If you don’t want to, or can’t take HRT, at least use vaginal HRT. To not do so is foolish indeed

cosmicbabe · 09/12/2025 17:24

OK, thanks for the replies. Sounds awful. Can’t wait 😩😂🥴

'Fraid so. I'm devastated and wish I'd made more use of my younger fanjo. I'm on pessaries - but the oestrogen cream gave me UTIs - each time within 24 hours of using it. Sad because I'd heard the cream can revive and even help restore ( ??)

I might consider going to private clinic and asking for HRT & testosterone. I'd love to feel all that passion again.

cosmicbabe · 09/12/2025 17:44

I’ve just been looking and found some private clinics so might make an appointment. Now I wish I had not stayed with my last partner so long and had a better sex life. 🤦🏻‍♀️ idiot.

To some extent it’s a use it or lose it situation I believe.

I think this is very true too. Blood flow and all that.

get onto Love Honey or whatever that website is.

Hedjwitch · 09/12/2025 17:52

I found that a very unexpected and welcome side effect of taking collagen ( for my face) was a replumping of my shrivelled fanny!

The1990club · 09/12/2025 17:59

Please please please this cannot be true! ?Im 35 and this fills me with horror!!!

Another of the joys of menopause!

Gina worked for me. It also has that plumping effect!

CleanandLight109 · 09/12/2025 19:25

It does not happen to everyone.
I'm 57 and so far so good.

VA is due to lack of estrogen not lack of sex.

We're all making it up...

Confused
Periperi2025 · 09/12/2025 19:57

I find my perineum is my worst affected part. I had a small second degree tear and a few stitches, so wonder whether the lack of oestrogen is drying out the scar. I've started rubbing ovestin into it alternate nights, so hopefully it'll improve a bit. Perimenopause sucks!

Newgirls · 09/12/2025 20:46

yep clue for me was UTIs which id never had before. Got the cream and they stopped.

PInkyStarfish · 09/12/2025 20:47

It has not happened to me nor my sister. Neither of us have or would ever take HRT.

Your GP will give you estriol cream (topical oestrogen) no problem. I only had to submit an online form, I wasn’t even really getting symptoms just read about it and got paranoid haha. Am also 46

Why not? it protects against osteoporosis, frailty fractures have a significant mortality rate associated with them.
