As the title suggests really.

I was 49 and have been told that's quite young? Didn't start early, I was 14.

I was around 57. Started when I was nearly 16.

  1. They just stopped all of a sudden. No change in my periods or frequency leading up to it. I started HRT a couple of years later and had a bit of bleeding for the first few months, but none since.

Started at almost 15. Petered out during my late 40s (I'd have a heavy one and then a light one and then a heavy one and then one that barely counted then a gap.. you get the idea) and I think I was 49 when I had the last one, maybe 50.

Should add, I had horrendous if intermittent night sweats, temperature all over the place, clumsy, forgetful. Just glad it's over really.

Edited

Did you take any HRT?

I was 53 years and 6 months old when I had my last period. Although at 52 years and 2 months old I had a period, and didn't have another one for 7 months! Then at 52 years and 9 months old, I had a period again! I was quite annoyed tbh! 😆

I had a 4 or 5 more periods over the next 9 months, then the last one ever at 53 years and 6 months! One of the best days ever. It's lovely having no periods, and also knowing I can't get pregnant!

Did you take any HRT?

No, I never got to the stage where I felt that I needed too. Everything was intermittent except the forgetfulness, but I was also quite stressed at the time which was probably a factor there.

I'm not a fan of using meds unless I absolutely have to.

DontKeepScratchingIt · 17/07/2024 11:57

59 an 1/2! I had a terrible 6 years up to then - flooding, periods lasting for 3 weeks, only to start again after a few days' break, hospitals, tests, hormone tablets, scans, etc. Horrible. (I was 11 when I had the first period)

RuthW · 17/07/2024 12:18

53

53 - but after having been a regular 29 days when I was in my forties and prior this all changed over the last 3 years , so from age around 50, the days gap between periods was 128, 22, 55, 60, 35, 60, 20, 200, 60, 40, 200, 110 and then no more …..

Mine were similar to this. Last one 53

I should say a surprise one after a year at 54 and another surprise one at 57...

paddingtonbear1 · 18/07/2024 14:48

I started at 19.. still going strong at 56. Not particularly overweight and started wondering if it was normal! Glad to see from pp's that I'm not alone!

Livinginaclock · 18/07/2024 14:49

45, v young but fine by me!

aintnospringchicken · 18/07/2024 14:56

48 when I had my last(very light and short period). The one before that was 9 months earlier.

BrickOtter · 18/07/2024 14:56

40 but have a strong family history of early menopause

newtb · 18/07/2024 15:09

52 then 1 a year later then nothing more. Saw gynae who said it was just a lone ovum and no action needed. In France if that makes a difference.

Unforgettablefire · 18/07/2024 16:21

57 and still going but a bit erratic over the last three months, missed one then this one is two weeks late.
Started at 13. My mother had early menopause she was in her 30s and had a terrible time.

Hopefully I'm at an end the peri has been horrendous.

neilyoungismyhero · 18/07/2024 16:36

Started at age 14 and ended with flooding for a couple of months then nothing at 55.
Had a few hot flushes for a couple of months then it was all over. I consider myself pretty lucky.

SapatSea · 18/07/2024 17:09

Started when I'd just turned 12, ended when I was 58.

SapatSea · 18/07/2024 17:12

I had a bad time and still have hot flushes at 60 (2 years on) but my sister who didn't start her periods until she was 17 has had a mirena IUD throughout peri and some estrogen gel and is sailing through and doesn't know at 55 if she is post menopausal. Just like the menstrual cycle it is brutal for some women and a piece of cake for others.

Countrylife2002 · 18/07/2024 17:16

48 last real one but a couple of random spotting events when I was 49. Now I’m 50 and hoping this is the end of it. However my hot flushes have calmed down which normally signals another spotting episode . Would be nice if it could be the end. No HRT but I do take SSRIs for the anxiety .

started my periods at 11 so it does seem fair they stop younger !!

Norugratsatall · 18/07/2024 21:59
  1. But I'd had several years of infrequent light periods before that.
Spitalfieldrose · 18/07/2024 22:01

First one at 11, still going every 28 days in the dot at 52. This should end soon, shouldn’t it???

poppym12 · 18/07/2024 22:20

Last one was at 50 but I'd had around 18 months of irregular ones before that.

MeOldBamboo · 18/07/2024 22:22

49.5 but just started chemo for breast cancer so I’ll never know if that was it or the treatment brought it on quicker. Peri was awful but out the other side now!

Catlover1705 · 18/07/2024 22:33

51 - 59 now and starting to get signs of aging, thinning hair and lines.
