Normally I have nice, light, regular periods. No cramping, no pain or bloating (I know, I've been incredibly fortunate).

This month I am having the period from hell. Very heavy, feel like I've put on 2 stone in as many days, and absolutely horrific cramps that nothing is shifting.

I've spent hours in a steaming hot bath today, and just want to crawl into bed with a big mug of tea and LittleDog to cuddle.

I'm 44.

It's hard to believe we have years of this to go. My mum doesn't remember having any trouble, I think she's just more stoical than me. It's hard to think about anything else sometimes, even tho I guess it's normal & ok....

crazynanna · 05/01/2012 20:49

Uh-oh....lots of Sads' and Hmms' on here fellow Periwitches!!

Trick is to see it (as one Peri once said) as your next stage of Goddess!
And the next trick is...try and make light of a bad day! I did see the funny side of crying my eyes out once and declaring "My life is shit!" at the lack of mince inTescos Wink

The dirty dreams will come to you...I promise! And just think, when it's all over ...no more periods!!! EVER!!! Woohoo!

BTW....does anyone else get like cold shivers all the way down their body in bed? Or is it just me thinking of my next credit card bill? Just recently started getting the hot flushes....and these funny cold shivers have now arrived. I frighten my poor sleeping pal kitten to death...and why are kittens so scared of loud farts?

Another mystery Smile

I had an unusual moment of niceness t'other week, they played Fairytale of NY on radio & I started sobbing whilst driving to Sainburys thinking how lovely DH is, & worse than that, bought him a card saying To My Perfect Husband.... I am never going to live it down. He positively cackled with delight...

jerin · 05/01/2012 21:39

Hi Ladies.......

Not sure what led to start reading this thread but soooo pleased that I did. (not all pages yet, even if I had I'd have forgotten by now so..)

I think this is me! I'm (only) 38, no, 39 but my periods have been all over the place for two years now and the rages started about then too.

Periods had always been regularish and since children I'm often so busy I don't realise it's been a couple of months since the last. Could having children have kick started menopause?

Last period was October sometime, feel that it's about to arrive but have done for a couple of months now. I've not had hot or cold flushes, nor the nymph urges (libido been well and truly low for past two years).
I have a couple of weeks where I feel ok and then bam! It's pmt but 100 times worse than I've ever experienced. It's the rages- toothpaste, switches not turned off, any little thing really. Poor oh gets the brunt of it. Then no period, nothing. And the forgetfulness, drives me crazy. I put something down then spend the next 20 minutes looking for it!! Keys. Bag, coat, pen, wipes. Socks, anything and everything.

Have broken down at docs a couple of times but just been sent away as a blubbering wreck....

Someone kind tell me that this could all mean I am peri menopausal rather than just a loon!

jerin · 05/01/2012 22:27

Jeeez......just googled and I've 8 out of 11 symptoms.....

Maybe I'm not losing my mind after all.... Well I am but at least I can put it down to something.

Right, next to try and salvage relationship with oh...... Hurry up sexual urges.....

Hope I didnt thread kill btw...

ElectricSoftParade · 06/01/2012 08:08

jerin you haven't killed it and you are not alone petal.

My plan today, as I said above, is to go and apologise to the Post Office woman. It's bad enough being foul to my DH and DCs but this woman was an innocent bystander to my foulness. Wish me luck!

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 06/01/2012 09:04

Oohh - what did you say Electric - do tell us about The Post Office Saga !

And good luck with apologising ... I hope you can clear the air Smile

I lost my job recently after one year contract at DSs school wasn't renewed ...
perhaps I can put that down to being a bit Peri too ... either that or I could blame the current economic situation country going down the pan

Wish me luck applying for new jobs, deciding which ones to go for, and then applying and occasionally going for an interview ...

Anyway, I'm going to the opticians today so at least something planned for the day which will take me into town ...

Have a nice day all Smile

MardyBra · 06/01/2012 09:58

Heard on the radio today that brain capacity starts declining in mid 40s.

PandorasSocks · 06/01/2012 10:34

Getting really, really pissed off with DH putting every argument, upset, angry word of mine down to hormones!

Equally pissed off with DH not understanding that I'm hormonal!

Confused

(thanks for the welcome by the way - nice to belong somewhere with people who understand that I'm not a psycho-mad-screaming-witch-from-the-eighth-circle-of-hell)

Picking up from you kerry I was thinking is it all something you generally go through and come out the other side of at some point or is it all down hill from now on ? Grin

Liking the term Peri by the way - reminds me of fruity, fermenting pears, and toasting celebrations with champagne !

Has to be better than menopausal - so last generation ! Wink

CointreauVersial · 06/01/2012 12:05

I had a lovely hot bath this morning, and observed that my legs (which I can't be arsed to shave in the winter) suddenly seemed really really hairy. It was like Planet of the Apes. Is this a menopausal thing? When I was younger I barely needed to shave my legs as the hairs were so fine and pale.

Having said that, I will no doubt appreciate the extra insulating properties, as my circulation slows to zero in the cold weather.

OneHandWrapping · 06/01/2012 12:11

Personally I think the sex that thinks about sex every 7 seconds is on thin ice when it comes to accusations of being hormonally challenged.

PandorasSocks · 06/01/2012 12:11

It's nature's little joke Cointreau. Currently I'm shredding hair everytime I shampoo, but also at the same time my legs are hairier than they ever used to be and I have rogue whiskers sprouting on my chin.

Such a laugh Hmm

ProfessorSunny · 06/01/2012 12:18

I am 45, mine were heavy for 2-3 years, massively heavy with horrible cramps but then, suddenly, they have gone back to normal. They have stayed regular as clockwork but they are normal/light and no cramps. I assume that is peri menopause?

2BoysTooLoud · 06/01/2012 12:19

Ok- I have only flicked through thread - sorry. I'm mid 40s and have been so prone to losing it over xmas. Period started New Year. I have been shouty to my dh [more than usual] intolerant of my 6 year old. Felt angry and felt sad. I could go on...
Last year or so my memory is crap. I forget words in the middle of sentences or say the wrong word. I am often aghast at myself and ashamed of my screeching. My periods have shorter gaps and are different to how they used to be. I would be relieved to think these maybe menopausal symptoms as I honestly have been thinking I am losing my mind.

ProfessorSunny · 06/01/2012 12:20

I've had that in the past as well 2boys.

2BoysTooLoud · 06/01/2012 12:26

I am glad I am not alone ProfessorSunny. I did apologise to my 6 year old. My dh thinks I am a harridan- and he is right.l

ElectricSoftParade · 06/01/2012 12:31

Well, the Post Office lady was very gracious and said she accepted my apology. I gave her a bunch of flowers and scarpered out of the door with tears dripping off my nose Hmm.

The original convo went like this:

Me: I would like to send these first class please
PO Lady: Standard first class for this card and it will be 85p for this one
Me: WHAT????
PO Lady: Repeated the above
Me: That is completely outrageous and I am NOT paying that!
PO Lady: Well, do you want the envelope back then?

Me: Bloody hell, the PO is a money-grabbing shyster isn't it?

PO Lady: Shock
Me: Thank you so much for your help

PO Lady: Madam, your card? Do you want it back or shall I post it?
Me: Suppose so
PO Lady: Hmm Thank you for your custom, please call again Hmm

She was so nice and I am not. Poor lady probably hates me and I don't blame her Sad.

vixsatis · 06/01/2012 12:31

Delighted to read that periM is an excuse for procrastination and lack of focus.

Have also rather been enjoying the hot flushes (heating not working)

Shame, though, about the lost libido, forgetfulness and mad bleeding (thank god for wipe clean black leather office chair)

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 06/01/2012 12:37

Very funny Electric and vix

  • observational humour is always my favourite kind.
