Normally I have nice, light, regular periods. No cramping, no pain or bloating (I know, I've been incredibly fortunate).

This month I am having the period from hell. Very heavy, feel like I've put on 2 stone in as many days, and absolutely horrific cramps that nothing is shifting.

I've spent hours in a steaming hot bath today, and just want to crawl into bed with a big mug of tea and LittleDog to cuddle.

I'm 44.

How do you deal with the cramps? I've had a couple of co-codamol left over from the DIY mishap, and a couple of ibruprofen, and it's not touched it. It feels like I have a huge weight in my stomach and my back and thighs are killing me.

Tonight, Cilla, I want to be a bloody man. [hsad]

Have you used the sticky heat pad things you can get from Asda, Scarah, I find sometimes that something warm on tummy area helps?

I often say calmly when chewing DH's head off that he is lucky to be a bloke!!!

Mwah I'm now a panty liner a day kinda girl. Just in case. And yes it seems like my period is about to come for at least half the month.

I also divorce dh every month.

Grin at crying at DIY SOS.

I have tried Agnus Castus a while back but kept forgetting to take it with no discernible result. May be time to try again.

I take Tranexamic acid for the heaviness which really helps

I wonder whether I am as well, for about the last 3 years I have had weird periods (v heavy, horrible, about 14 days apart - previously 24 days almost without exception and not that heavy). I've lost a lot of weight this year and they have become much more infrequent - now about 40 odd days apart , and less heavy, though still more so than say 5 years ago. I also this year seem to have started to suffer pmt, never ever had it, now I have it all the time!

I am only 39 and slightly in denial as I still would like one more baby. The thought of being peri-menopausal actually makes me want to cry (though that could just be the PMT...)

Scarah, good old fashioned hot water bottle, bath and double the dose of ibuprofen.

I get the total opposite to the constipation [hblush]
Everything is so nasty at period time "down there" Sad

I second the Tranexamic acid, when mine were bad it did really make a difference

Tho Scarah, if this is out of the blue, just this month, could you have been pregnant...?

ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 19:32

Me too crazynanna :(

I am using LittleDog as a hotwater bottle. I'll make a proper one, he's obviously not up to the job.

Apart from 24 hours before my period is due, then I am all over dh like a rash. That's how I know when it's coming.

Report
ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 19:43

Ah no, now that's a side effect I'm not suffering. Quite the opposite. It's just a massive sex desert and there's not a single decent man in sight.

Lucky you Scarah, I'm with Cyb, so tired for anything apart from MN and getting some sort of therapy from this thread

Does anyone have the days of cannot be arsed to do anything, and everything seems to take forever to do - the school run can be a killer some days!

Report
cyb · 16/10/2011 19:52

Yes lots of cant be arsed days

Its horrid actually, because its not just me who it's affecting, family gets rough end of my tongue a lot when I'm PMT ish whch seems to be 2 weeks out of 4. And then I'm bleeding like a stuck pig for the other week

hoping my hormone results will recommend I get the whole lot whipped out with complimentary boob lift and lipo

Oh yes, I've lost the last 3 days to that. All I've done is the laundry. C even BA to list something on Ebay that I really need to sell. And it was free listing weekend. Gah.

Oh yes lots and lots of CBA days here too. Not good when you have a full time job, school run and are trying to train for a half marathon. Grin

Cyb would your surgeon do two-for-the-price-of-one?

crazynannawitchbitch - Don't want to frighten you but some of your symptoms are those that can be seen in ovarian cancer. Of course they aren't only seen in OC and it's highly likely that it's nothing to be concerned about but If I were you I would wanting to be checked out just to be sure.

Hope I haven't offended!
