Normally I have nice, light, regular periods. No cramping, no pain or bloating (I know, I've been incredibly fortunate).

This month I am having the period from hell. Very heavy, feel like I've put on 2 stone in as many days, and absolutely horrific cramps that nothing is shifting.

I've spent hours in a steaming hot bath today, and just want to crawl into bed with a big mug of tea and LittleDog to cuddle.

I'm 44.

Hey ladies, how's things? Glad your blood tests came out ok crazy (you don't mind if I dispense with the nana do you?)

Ok, I scored a double today in the forgetfullness and crying stakes. Had a parcel delivered, and when I had to sign that stupid signy thing they have, I signed it with my maiden name. I've only been married for 18 years so easy mistake to make - not. When I realised what I'd done, I was swamped with feelings of guilt and of betrayal of dh and of unworthiness - and started crying. Oh my god, the poor delivery man couldn't get away quickly enough.

And I also have to report the mysterious disappearance of half of my bloody useless peri magnet thing. I've been wearing it religiously, and retrieving it regularly from various awkward places its pinged off too, but yesterday evening, upon stripping off - nothing. Disappeared. Nada. Poof. God only knows where it went, but can't say I'll miss it. Hot flushes have been as hot and flushy as ever.

And the last confession of the evening - three large bars of toblerone, meant for christmas presents, have strangely gone awry. Can't think what can have happened to them ....

MardyBra · 28/11/2011 22:11

mmm. toblerone...

WeepsInPaleDew · 28/11/2011 22:29

crazynanna, thank you for kind words. Smile

When my head is a bit less fuzzy I'm going to read through this thread properly. It looks like it provide the answers to a lot of questions I'm going to have!

Poor olds, I didn't even get her name right! It's been a long day anyway and then the nurse appointment kinda finished me a bit. I will be back, thank you for replying to my random little post!

olds just in case you didn't see it on t'other thread, my heartfelt apologies. Blush

oldsilver · 28/11/2011 22:35

No problemo weeps you'll notice memory is the first to go - the word "thingy" is very very handy for names, items, bit's of body...

crazynanna · 28/11/2011 22:59

Silver don't fret about the bollocks...I hear they are hard to shave anyway...and we lot have enough to shave, don't we? Wink

Barry do you mind if I have a little chuckle at your delivery man legging it down the drive? Grin ok,do not fret...I win the forgetfulness stakes by forgetting my own address at the Argos cash desk

BarryStar · 03/12/2011 00:30

Evening all, bit quiet on her last few days. How is everybody?

Hmm, it's just possible that I have maybe, perhaps, been a teeny tiny bit, um, moody recently. Dh has just told me that he was talking to his friend yesterday, and told him he was having a bit of trouble "reading" me these days (which translated means " haven't the faintest clue what's going on in her head and she's bloody moody"). Friend told him to read up about the perimenopause, which dh did, and he's just been telling me how he understands that it's a very difficult time for me! Don't know whether to feel pleased or patronised. Actually, I'm pleased I think. Now, how best to capitalise on his new-found understanding ...

WeThreeKingsOfMardyBra · 03/12/2011 02:16

OK - I can now add loss of pelvic floor control to my old age symptoms. I'd thought I was relatively OK after Caesarians (long story - kids got stuck for various reasons). But now I've got a bad cough and the clenching didn't work earlier.

Barry, I think I need to indoctrinate inform DH in a similar way. DD is, however, being an absolute star and is generally very useful in filling in blanks when my brain goes into freeze mode.

I would give you all a hug, but I fear we might all break out into a hot flush mild glow.

HoHoHoldsilver · 03/12/2011 11:09

It will be useful Mardy when it gets really cold Xmas Grin - the hug that is Xmas Smile I've been hearing about the cough all over the place ... even from very much younger women - think Tena are going to be doing a roaring trade this Winter.

Barry can I borrow your DH's mate to have a word with my dp ... he has absolutely no concept and I keep trying to tell him and it's just not going though. Mind you this is the bloke that can give up smoking every few weeks and DS and I barely come out alive has absolutely no side effects or mood changes whatsoever Xmas Hmm

crazycrackernanna · 03/12/2011 11:17

Barry don't have the OH anymore, but I was reading out the syptoms of iron deficiency (which doc says I have due to losing half my blood supply every month) to DD the other day,and every syptom I read out,she butted in ".....and mood swings" Xmas Hmm,so there it is...even the little people notice it.

mardy I had what doc said 2 years ago an Irritable Bladder...otherwise 'pissing your knickers unless you get to the bog with 0.225 seconds of the inkling to pee'.
It is now suspected it is another symtom of these probable fibroids...which is pleasing as it means if they are treated...I won't smell like catpee anymore (Hoorah)

Yes I hear Tena are good and not like a nappy at all

Loving the santa names...HoHoHoldsilver indeedy! Xmas Grin

AChickenCalledKorma · 05/12/2011 10:24

Glad to have found you guys. Haven't had time to read all 17 pages yet, so apologies if this has been done ...

I'm 41 and think I'm peri-menopausal. Won't go into all the gory details!

I'm interested to know if anyone's found that the contraceptive implant keeps some symptoms at bay? I've had quite tender boobs for a few months. No lumps, just v tender. Was on the brink of getting round to asking a doctor about them when I renewed my contraceptive implant. Since then, all is fine.

Also, the last two times I've had the implant I've had horrible mood swings for the first few weeks. This time nothing.

Presumably my "natural" hormones were more up the creek than I realised and the implant has put things back in balance. Is that plausible? Not that it really matters, but I'd like to have some clue what my body's up to!!!

BarryStar · 06/12/2011 00:01

Hi Chicken, have no knowledge of the implant so can't help you on that score, sorry.

Crazy, when are you being seen about your fibroids?

Mardy, I think incontinence is necessary for you to be allowed onto this thread, so don't worry Grin

I was on another thread earlier, talking about something I'd bought today - but I couldn't remember for the life of me where I'd bought it :o I mean, we're talking a matter of hours ago and I just couldn't remember (I have remembered since then, but even so ...)

Oh, and on Saturday I went to see Father Christmas arriving by helicopter - and I cried. I'm talking actual sobbing. My friend very charitably put it down to me being touched by the wide-eyed delight of all the children, but I fear it was more to do with being struck dumb with admiration for the helicopter pilot, who not only hovered, but then flew backwards! That's totally fucking a bit strange isn't it?

Same friend made me nearly choke laughing though - she has a theory re the disappearance of my useless peri-magnet. I have absorbed it apparently!

See you soon.

MardyBra · 20/12/2011 15:40

Huge TMI coming up alert. Blush

I seem to be having a phantom "dried up" period instead of my normal period. This happened last time I missed one too - just a bit of dark brown congealed stuff, rather than a full blown period. Has this happened to anyone else, or am I a freak of nature?

HoHoHoldsilver · 20/12/2011 22:19

I always get this a few days before, and after the bloodbath aswell. I mentioned to the docs about it being like I was "rusting" he seemed to understand completely what I meant by this - don't know if that helps??? Just so you know - I am almost jealous Xmas Smile

crazycrackernanna · 20/12/2011 22:32

No...I don't get the phantom rusty period...always the full blown nasty bitch comes to visit.
How are we all coping with the festivities?
Got to say...my syptoms are giving me a break...I am feeling normal(ish) Shock

Had scan.....pissed off as not fricking RabbitCam Hmm Never no pleasures for moi...never! Just a young lass with the belly scanner.
No visible fibroids...but muscle change showing early fibroid signs. She went on to say "It's just something oldies have to bear" Hmm bitch!
Anyways....went to docs, who said the iron levels were literally bottoming out,and gave me the ferrous things and some transemic acid. I did break down and say the bleeding is really getting me down, and she said she would refer me to UCH gynae to discuss ablation Shock was a bit taken aback that with no visible fibroids it's an option....but she said with the other symptoms like pissing myself pressure on bladder,it's worth a second opinion.

But gels I am feeling not too bad....just knackered from low iron.

Hope you all ok Smile

MardyBra · 21/12/2011 20:48

Yes, rusty is a good description. Anyway, am liking "rusty" in place of the normal "Battle of the Somme". I still had full blown PMT beforehand though - mainly taken out on MN on the Facebook button debate. In fact, I'm sure if someone wanted to, they could track my menstrual cycle by my outbursts on this forum.

Shock at crazynanny and the ageist scanning girl. (did you tell her about your gransnet addiction?) Hope you're soon feeling a bit better with the iron tablets.

HoHoHoldsilver · 24/12/2011 17:59

Just popping in to wish you all a very Peri Christmas

HaveYourselfAMardyLittleXmas · 25/12/2011 10:05

Yes it was, Prof Brian lippy boy Cox Xmas Grin

MardyBra · 02/01/2012 09:39

This thread seems to dwindling. Am reminded of the three old witches in Macbeth, who doubtless huddled around their fire discussing the hot flushes it gave them, along with sharing tips about all that facial hair generated by their warts. Happy New Year, fellow crones.

PandorasSocks · 02/01/2012 10:52

I need to join this thread :(

Have been peri for about 18 months, just turned 44 a couple of days ago, and I hate it, hate myself, hate everyone else! It's like re-living my teenage years only with more weight, hot flushes, a husband and bloody kids!

It's cruel, I tell ya, cruel!

(Happy new year)

crazynanna · 02/01/2012 14:29

Double,Double,Toil and Trouble
Fire Burn and Caldron bubble......

Witch 1 checking in.
Welcome PandorasSocks

I do believe I am hitting the real thing baby!
Bloody hot flushes like I really am a witch at the stake. Christ on a bike!

No period since Nov 18th (hoorah) Seeing gynae next month as scan showed no fibroids but some muscle fibroid changes.

Week 2 of iron tabs...farting for England but do feel a little better energy wise.

How is all yous? Smile

oldsilver · 02/01/2012 18:04

For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble...

Witch 2 checking in.

Cool that the Iron tabs are working, boo bout the burning at the stake flushes You sure the side effect is not related to eating too many sprouts (good though lots of iron) Xmas Grin

Had the heaviest period yet - thought it was shorter than usual though, til I checked and it had only gone on for 9 days Xmas Hmm. I could have just taken to my bed - maybe not moving would have helped - complete carnage as I was trying to rush around with all the last week of school and sorting Christmas combo!

Hello and welcome Pandora please feel free to TMI Xmas Grin

MardyBra · 03/01/2012 12:09

Welcome Pandora.
