What days of the week are best for day time meets? Also are mornings or afternoons easier?

January - I really want to go back to Cafe Continental in Durham! Any takers for coffee & cake?

StealthPolarBear · 23/07/2010 21:26

We're going to the new place that's opening tomorrow in Holmesid - Mini Moos
Anyone else planning to go?

EasilyConfusedIndith · 24/07/2010 07:14

Oh that looks like fun!

Chocaholica · 24/07/2010 09:27

We're going SPB. But I realize I haven't met you yet!

I'll be with DH, a 2 years and 3/4 daughter, and a baby of 15 weeks. Probably looking exhausted...

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2010 16:39

Well it was nice to meet you chocaholica, though I didn't read this before I went so apologies if I looked startled!
I liked that place We got a season ticket on the way out

BouncingTurtle · 24/07/2010 16:54

That Mini Moos place looks like fun. I have been taking DS to Tweddle Animal Farm which out beyond Castle Eden, has nice views of the sea there.

Chocaholica · 24/07/2010 17:39

Yes, sorry SPB, I sort of accosted you. It was just that when I heard you call your DD's name, I thought it must be you.

I liked it too. It was a sort of rustic version of Adventure Valley with more trees. Bouncing, your place looks good too.

Now - does anyone know how to clean a cream leather sofa which has had a multicoloured ice lolly dribbled onto it and now has a neon yellow streak?

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2010 17:42

Sorry No idea, hope you get it sorted though.

You missed the grand opening, and the Horrible Histories guy doing the signing!

I agree, liked the trees and the woodland walk is nice

Chocaholica · 24/07/2010 17:47

We had to leave to go to Sainsburys to stock up for the inlaws arriving tomorrow for a week. A WEEK. What was the grand opening like?

Got season tickets too. Indith, anyone else around, the season tickets are half the price of Adventure Valley.

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2010 18:20

eeek to a week!
It was OK, quite low key. The guy seemed nice, was doing signed books with all the proceeds (not profits I noticed) going to the childrens hospice he's doing the great north run for. I bought one on the Romans
Then they did the animal show but we missed that as DS was having far too much fun on the climbing wall and rope swings - he loved it!

Yes, season tickets are £20 for adults and over 2s (so get in quick if you have a not-quite-2yo). It said that was a limited offer but that's probably just marketing.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 25/07/2010 14:27

Sounds good. I saw the proce of the season tickets and really wished I had the car in the week as it would be so worth it. Hey ho. Dh doesn't really go in for stuff like that so we wouldn't get them for the whole family. I tried to get him to come swimming this weekend as last chance we'll get before the free swimming for the dcs stops and he just kept asking how much it costs and of course we have not gone we'll never bloody go once we havet o pay for the dcs too and ds adores swimming.

Come on folks! I need a night out!

BouncingTurtle · 25/07/2010 16:23

We've decided to go and visit my mum on the weekend of the 14th so we won't be able to go next time. So it doesn't look like we'll be making a weekend meet up now

I think we have resigned ourselves to the fact that we aint moving Too many houses for sale and not enough buyers around here. So we are going to make the most of things, and make sure we get out loads.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 25/07/2010 16:25

BT. How is it working out with the commute then? Such a shame. You never know when things will change though.

Poo to not having you on a night out. Where then hell is everyone anyway?

He is just about coping with the commute but I have told him he will have to stay over some nights when the winter draws in.

Just looked at my diary and I can do the 21st :D

We've also had a disaster over the weekend, the expansion vessel (part of the central heating) fell off the wall and the flexible hose split and water leaked out everywhere! Got a plumber coming today to fix it. We have only had water in the kitchen, so we can at least get the washing done, but we have to fill all the toilet cisterns manually and heat loads of water in the kettle to wash ourselves and do the washing up - and I badly need to wash my hair!!

EasilyConfusedIndith · 26/07/2010 14:02

Oh no! nightmare.

BouncingTurtle · 26/07/2010 15:01

Yey plumber has been and gone, he was absolutely brilliant!
Only charged me £100 all in, and even put a new diaphragm in one of the upstairs toilets - it kept farting every time the cistern refilled

So if any of you need a plumber I would 100% recommend this guy - I reckon he would go as far as Durham!

LeggyBlondeNE · 26/07/2010 16:19

OO, rec for a plumber v welcome - we want an electric shower fitted and we don't have anything there already so it would need totally new wiring - think he'd be good for that?

BouncingTurtle · 26/07/2010 17:04

Absolutely! He mentioned about doing whole bathrooms.

ABC Plumbers, he has a website

Contact details are on there. His name is Colin.

spiggy · 26/07/2010 20:18

Should be able to do either 14th or 21st, that is if we haven't been told that we're being closed down/flogged off/budget reduced to £5....Like Indith I neeeeeeeeed a night out!

Glad to see there are a few newbies, will try to make it next time there is a Mon or Tues meet.

juney- how's work? did you make a decision on what you were going to do? [nosey]

PDog · 26/07/2010 21:11

I can't make a night out unfortunately as DD can't decide whether to sleep through or not .

On the mention of plumbers, can I hijack for a minute and ask if anyone can recommend a good joiner? Have posted on the local page but looks like people don't check in there as often.

We need some doors skimming and a cabinet building in our bathroom. DH has contacted some for quotes but they haven't turned up . Would like to try DD in her own room soon but can't get the door closed since we had the carpets fitted.

juneybean · 26/07/2010 23:27

spiggy all staff been made redundant, new directors coming on board to start a new entity in September (if they hurry up!) got to apply for job as manager as soon as it gets advertised.

Nursery closed on Friday so I'm just on a come-down from the stress lol

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 27/07/2010 06:12

Believe it or not, my plumber DOES know a Joiner!
He was telling me about one that he works with who builds bespoke furniture and does other joinery tasks, they've carried out various jobs together, as I understand it.

StealthPolarBear · 27/07/2010 06:57

thanks BT - we are trying to build up a list of local workmen after some very bad starts. We know very good roofers and central heating engineers and now we have a plumber too

Juney I hope things work out.

PDog dd doesn't sleep through either, these days I just go for the "sod it" approach and leave her to dh. Wasn't quite so brave when she was smaller though.

PDog · 27/07/2010 08:49

Thanks Bouncing Turtle, will have to give him a call and see if he will give me the details.

Indith - unfortunately I can't leave DD with DH as she has developed an annoying endearing habit of needing boobs to sleep, day and night. Hoping it is just related to teething and will pass soon, along with the 2 hourly awakenings .
