Exeter Area Meet Up

Are there any mums near Exeter who would like to meet up for a natter and a cuppa?

The system at BTP works quite well but doesn't include waiter service! It's quite Soviet really: you queue up to place your order and pay, and they join a different queue to collect your order. Unless you can share carrying/buggy lugging, you may have to make several trips up and downstairs. It's still a lovely place- loads of room upstairs. I still think you might find Cafe Rouge a little easier though...

DrowningInClutter · 06/03/2009 11:19

I was wondering a bit how it'd work with the stairs, trouble with cafe rouge is there's lots of tables and not that much space between them. The pheonix (art centre) has plenty of space and ramps! Very baby friendly although I haven't actually counted highchairs. Is everyone set on BTP or would you consider alternatives?

littlelamb · 06/03/2009 11:25

I don't mind. The brownies at BTP are good, but the burgers at the Phoenix....mmmmmmmm I sound like an anal highchair spotter, but all the ones at the phoenix seem to be broken. I know they do different things on Sundays as well, so it might be worth checking if it would be stupidly busy that day.
(If anyones about this Sunday it is the Devon Women United for Peace day, come and check out the banners we have made March starts through town at about 12 (Am not a hippy really but got a bit nifty with a needle).

pavlovthecat · 06/03/2009 11:28

I am happy to consider anywhere that does good coffee/cake .

pavlovthecat · 06/03/2009 11:29

Ah what a shame - 8th March - International Women's Day...we would have all fit in nicely there, being women and all!

littlelamb · 06/03/2009 11:30

Come down and burn your bra march Pav

pavlovthecat · 06/03/2009 11:35

Just called the phoenix, they are fine with so many people coming, kids welcome, they have about 6-8 highchairs, and no events going on to disrupt us. We can either book space, or just pitch up, but it is a 'family sunday' so might be quite busy at that time, therefore if we want to guarantee spaces might be good to book.

Hi Loopy,

Yes, it is the 29th but the location is still up for discussion so if you have any ideas feel free to suggest

I would love to go on a women's day thing but am off this weekend for intensive hippy-training in the woods beyond Crediton.

intensive hippy training?
sounds good.

PhoenixFirefly · 06/03/2009 23:59

i dont mind switching to the phoenix if that is what everyone else would prefer. and if we book, we dont have to worry too much about recognising each other, because the staff would direct us to the right place!

DrowningInClutter · 08/03/2009 09:12

I didn't know you could book at the pheonix - I've never seen any tables with reserved signs! If we can book I'd go for the big table with sofas. There's a big corridor with loads of space to park buggies right beside it so it works really well for large groups with lots of babies.

The staff have always been really good about offering to carry coffee to the table if you've got hands full of baby when I've been there before.

Fennel · 08/03/2009 20:58

How did the women's day march go? Last year I went to a Women's comedy night at the Phoenix for women's day - another mumsnetter was running a women's art group thing there.

Local hippy training course aka woodcraft folk training weekend at Wembworthy - a hostel in the woods, schools and youth groups go there. We learn (in a sort of vague non-hierarchial disorganised way) how to bring up the next generation in hippy idealism.

littlelamb · 08/03/2009 21:53

Fennel it was brilliant but it absolutely peed down at the start Had stopped by the time we reached the Phoenix. I chickened out of holding our banner in the end as dd and ds were just getting so wet, I had to detour to Jojo on Gandy Street to get ds a waterproof as he was coat-less in the ergo- 29 quid It had stopped raining by the time we had walked all of the 20 feet to the phoenix though so I took it straight back. Felt very cheeky, but felt I had been robbed! Was a great day though, the banners were beautiful and will still be on display for a while. The one from Palestine was amazing. Dd had fun having her face painted (as a desert, naturally) and doing some collages with the lovely volunteers. The cake was good too

PhoenixFirefly · 08/03/2009 22:08

big table with sofas sounds good to me

I'm still in, not decided which of the dcs I'll be bringing for support with me as yet. Will scout out the location on next trip to the city so I know roughly where to head.
