Afternoon everyone.

Phoenix · 08/03/2009 16:53

Yeah i think moving out of Wakefield might affect that Wot but i'm not sure. This will give you an idea of what you could get over here

OP posts:
wotulookinat · 08/03/2009 17:15

thanks, Phoenix. It's considerably cheaper. I shall have to chat to Jon about it. If it affects the WDH application then it's no good. How easy is it to get to the White Rose (for Jon's work) from Barnsley?

Phoenix · 08/03/2009 18:11

Not sure, depends where you are. If you were at the Wakefield end of Barnsley then the easiest would be to go through Wakefield i think.

Might be worth ringing WDH though and just explain your situation and see what would happen if you moved.

wotulookinat · 08/03/2009 18:25

we have to go the housing office tomorrow anyway, and it's in the WDH 'shop', so I'll ask. Phoenix, thanks for being so helpful

The nearest place to Wakefield is probably Royston. Between Royston and Cudworth where i live there's Carlton and Monk Bretton. Near me there's Shafton, Grimethorpe. If you carry on on the main road into Barnsley and not turn down into Royston there's Athersley or Mapplewell. If you need to know

OP posts:
wotulookinat · 08/03/2009 18:37

cool, thanks. There was a nice looking place in Mapplewell.
What's the name of the best paper for property for the area?

Phoenix · 08/03/2009 18:41

The paper like Wakefield Express is Barnsley Chronicle.

Jon says Barnsley would be too far for work, time-wise and petrol-wise.

Phoenix · 08/03/2009 19:20

He could be right. What you would save in rent you would prob use in petrol

Phoenix · 08/03/2009 19:29

You could do a few trial runs from different areas to his work and sit down and do some calculations???

OP posts:
wotulookinat · 08/03/2009 19:30

sigh there's always the lottery, I guess. We may end up going back south.

wotulookinat · 08/03/2009 19:31

Ideally, Outwood would be the best place for us, position-wise, but we had a look around there yesterday, and for 2 bed terrace we would be looking at £500 plus.

Phoenix · 08/03/2009 19:36

Surely here is cheaper than 'darn sarf'

Can U not get housing benefit and rent paid ?

Have you looked at the Martin Lewis web site, loads of tips etc on there ....

trace2 · 08/03/2009 20:07

what about ryhill its still wakefield here
[http://details.vebra.com/property/1016/17005230]

trace2 · 08/03/2009 20:14

but you better getting private letting, so look in local papers is best bet

wotulookinat · 08/03/2009 20:42

Yes, the rent is much, much cheaper up here than down south, but Jon would get a much higher wage down there - and I think the security of being around family would be nice, emotionally.
We're going to apply for housing benefit (now called Local Housing Allowance) tomorrow - but they will only pay towards a two bed house, as that's all we need, technically, so we would still have a hefty amount to pay ourselves. The new way it is worked out, you get the same amount for any two bed place, regardless of what the rent actually is, so we'd be better looking for a cheaper place. Sadly, they won't cover our whole rent here
We did look at Ryhill - I like it, and although Jon likes it too, it's too much of a treck for work. It's funny, because we seriously considered there when we first moved up here. I wish we had gone for it now.

Friendlypizzaeater · 08/03/2009 21:01

Could you not haggle with the landlord ? The paper today had a question in about this and cos mortgages have come down, a good tenant is worth its weight in gold ?

I've slashed our food budget in half by adding oats and lentils to everything I cook cos I can't use toms & onions any more

trace2 · 09/03/2009 08:03

good luck today wota let us know how you go on?

wotulookinat · 09/03/2009 09:45

thanks - will do.
Jon's just putting all the paperwork stuff together for the LHA. He's on the phone now getting details of another job that pays a bit more.

wotulookinat · 09/03/2009 12:15

DH is just off out to the housing place now to show all the paperwork for that. I tried to get another crisis loan for the short-term but they said no because the tax credits are sorted - which we can't do until my work is sorted, and that's been ongoing since October (well, that's when I handed my notice in - I've been off sick for over a year). So, DH is off to Cash Generators with his mum's rings and my jewellery from my ex

Friendlypizzaeater · 09/03/2009 12:29

Could you do some private tutoring now exams are close at night so Jon can have Dennis ?

wotulookinat · 09/03/2009 12:42

I can't work at the moment.
