Some of us do!

Berrie · 30/11/2007 13:42

Even if it is interrupted by someone telling me to turn it down, he can't hear Fifi and the Flowertops properly...

LyraSilvertongue · 03/12/2007 09:05

Lovely, Berrie. What have you been up to?

OP posts:
Berrie · 03/12/2007 10:16

We are full of cold so a bit of a miserable weekend. Thoughwe did go for lunch at a friends yesterday which was lovely. It's always nice when someone else cooks!
You?

LyraSilvertongue · 03/12/2007 12:02

Saturday - took the boys to Hampton Court maze and to watch the ice skating in the morning then had to go off to work. I'm about to stop working every Saturday as now DP has this new job paying for childcare won't be a problem so I'll work one weekday a week and one double Saturday shift per month.
Sunday - DP working so I had to take the boys with me to man the craft stall at the school Christmas fair. There were lots of other mums helping so we managed to get away and see Santa and have some lunch and play the tombolas etc (I won a hamper for the first time ever). The boys were very well behaved though, apart from when DS1 had a meltdown over a bouncy ball he lost.
That's it. What are you up to this week?

OP posts:
Berrie · 03/12/2007 12:15

Tee Hee, yes forgot we went to DS's School to be Christmas Fair. DS won a packet of crackers on the tombola We also went to see a reindeer at a local garden centre but they were not overly impressed I have to say despite DH and I trying to whip up some enthusiasm with some, " Ooo, look at the antlers!"
That's good news about not having to work Saturdays though methinks that this will mean virtually no Saturday chat at all!

This week I begin to panic about Christmas presents...er...we have an appointment at the allergy clinic to test dd now she is 2 and see how ds's nut allergy is. That's about it. Are you doing anything nice?

What do you all do about Christmas presents with DH? I got a bit upset about it all this weekend as Dh and I have different approaches to it all. Without going into too much boring detail it got to...
DH -"Well how much is your London Trip costing?",
Me -"Fine, I won't go then!"
But I am coming

LyraSilvertongue · 03/12/2007 12:41

Does he think you shouldn't bother spending money on each other? I know of a few husbands who have this bah humbug attitude. One of them thinks they should only spend about £20 on the children, and they're not poor by any means, he just can't see the point.
I've bought all the boys' main presents already (to avoid the last minute frantic search for some must-have item).
This week we have DSs friends coming for tea, with their mum, after school today, Wednesday I'm waiting in for my new Ikea wardrobe and the gas man's coming to fit a new outside meter, Thursday we're supposed to be going to Downing Street again for a Christmas party at No 11 (if I'd known it was to become a regular occurrance I wouldn't have got so excited about it the first time) - apparently Alistair Darling's going to dress up as Santa but I'll believe that when I see it - and Friday DP's off work so we'll have our first family day together in about a month.

Gosh, you've been doing it alone for a long time then.
What on earth will you wear this time? Good job DP's had a pay rise!
No,Dh isn't interested in any loving gifts I might want to buy him. He'd rather have the money to put towards whatever his current hobby is. This time there is a model aeroplane he wants to spend over £100 on. Firstly I wouldn't be able to spend that much, secondly it's just like giving money and I don't like that. I want him to appreciate my thoughtful, loving gifts and if he doesn't like them then he probably doesn't like doing the same for me and if he doesn't want to do that for me then he doesn't love me enough!!! Lastly, amateur Psychology coming up...After my Dad left when we were children, he wasn't much of a Dad at all but the one thing he did still do for us was a good Christmas stocking and I suppose I link that with the one sure way of knowing someone loves you.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/12/2007 14:10

It sounds like you've got very valid reasons for feeling the way you do. Have you told DH this? He could surely make an effort as it's only once a year.
Clothes not such an issue for this party. It's an early evening one (after school) for the children so anything smartish will do, i reckon.

OP posts:
Berrie · 03/12/2007 14:19

Oh how I sobbed and he backed down completely but I felt cheated out of a bit of a row to be really honest. I think I needed that for 'closure!' Poor DH.

Berrie · 03/12/2007 20:06

Yikes. The first of our married friends/contemporaries have split up. It's a bit unsettling. Has that happened to any of you yet? I assosiate that sort of thing with what I think of as older people but we are those older people now aren't we

LyraSilvertongue · 03/12/2007 20:15

We are those older people.
Give it a few years and we'll be going to a funeral every other week.

oggsfrog · 04/12/2007 08:43

What happened to Door 1? I seem to have missed it.
Trying to get my act together and book a flight today.

Berrie · 04/12/2007 09:01

There wasn't a Door 1!

Berrie · 04/12/2007 09:02

Hurrah Oggs. Have you done it yet?

LyraSilvertongue · 04/12/2007 09:03
