New thread as the old one has run out of room.

I've been meaning to ask for a while. How old do babies have to be before they can have salad i.e., raw veg?

Nanou1 · 03/05/2007 16:06

what are you looking for mellow? [waves hello]

quokka · 03/05/2007 16:06

I would have thought mini mellow would be fine. I've been putting salad on ds2's plate for yonks - not that he eats it. mine tend to like their salad dressed.

quokka · 03/05/2007 16:08

red peppers are very good for little ones - you might find they come out whole (like raisins) but the more she can chew it the better!

Paddlechick666 · 03/05/2007 16:11

Hi Mellow, IMO as soon as they're able to chew it and have the ability to control where the food is in their mouth - ie: no longer have the tongue thrust thing.

dd has been gnawing on carrot sticks for about 10 months now I guess. she flatly refuses cucumber or fresh peppers tho but is big on grated carrot.

lettuce doesn't interest her either LOL. have to admit she doesn't get tomatoes coz i don't like 'em so don't buy 'em!

Eleusis · 03/05/2007 16:16

I agree. If she is able and willing to eat raw veg then go for it. DD doesn't like cucumbers and especially hates broccoli. I walked up to the living room (where kiddies reside behind locked Lindham gate) eating raw broccoli and she asked for some. I thought (yeah right) and said "it's broccoli and it's raw" she said okay. I went and got a branch for her and a branch for DS and they chomped them down. And I said, you know, this is what all broccoli tastes like????? Weirdo.

However, rarely shall a red pepper cross my lips so not worries on that one for her.

Paddlechick666 · 03/05/2007 16:34

okay i need sympathy.

have had a shit day at work. dd has gone to grandma's and the neighbour reckons she's got impetigo i reckon she's got a chapped chin from teething drool but.... grandma is currently at the local dr with dd just to get her checked out.

i am going home to a cold empty lonely house and i MISS her. and tomorrow morning i won't have her warm snuggle body to cuddle or her sparkly blue eyes to look into or her gorgeous "it's an amazing new day mumm" smile full of wide-eyed wonder.

god! let's hope i don't start drinking if this is how morose i am when at my desk LOL!

pudding77 · 03/05/2007 16:36

((((((hugs))))) to paddle, have you got plans tonight or are you home alone?

Paddlechick666 · 03/05/2007 16:38

i had plans but i've been dumped so home alone.

which i think is probably for the best tbh. am not feeling overly sociable.

will get a chinese i think - at least i can walk down there and collect so don't have to make a minimum order.

i've got plans for tomorrow night but can't get too wellied as have to drive on saturday to collect my darling.

Nanou1 · 03/05/2007 16:51

hugs your way Paddle...

mellow2 · 03/05/2007 16:56

Hugs PC

Nanou,
I'm trying to buy a male and a female mannequin but the ones I've found are a bit pricey.

quokka · 03/05/2007 17:05

what a shame pc, would invite you round here but I fear I may start snoring as soon as the boys go to sleep. tell the nosey neighbour to mind her own business!

Eleusis · 03/05/2007 17:08

Sorry, Paddle. If DH wasn't home tonight I'd come round for a yummy curry. But I'm already getting stick for going out Friday and Aturday night. So, if I did on Thursday too I think the locks could get changed in my absense.

Paddlechick666 · 03/05/2007 17:10

oh fuck fuck fuck!

it bloody is impetigo!

Eleusis · 03/05/2007 17:11

WEll, in that case, I ain't coming anywhere near you even if DH wasn't home.

Seriously,I don't think it's terribly serious, just very contageous. I had it when I was a kid and just got some antibiotic ointment prescribed from the neighbor (who was a doctor).

Eleusis · 03/05/2007 17:13

Oh no... does this mean she can't go to a childminder until it's gone? But, then maybe she isn't due at the childminder 'til next week. Will it be cleared up by then?

Paddlechick666 · 03/05/2007 17:18

i better not bloody get it then!

she's not due there till weds but have no idea how she got it or how long it will take to clear up.

it really only appeared this morning tho.

Eleusis · 03/05/2007 17:21

Hey, may your mum will get it instead of you. Now there's something positive you can drink to tonight.

Eleusis · 03/05/2007 17:22

Or maybe you can ask DH to come over kiss her rash. Then he can have it.

Paddlechick666 · 03/05/2007 17:29

lol @ Ele!

well i gave her a big kiss this morning so i guess i'm at risk.

CM says she can go back when scabs gone or when she's been on ABs for 2 days. which she will have been.

suejonez · 03/05/2007 18:05

Blimey Paddle how long are they infection before the rash (SJ selfishly counts back to last Paddle visit)

I'm at home tomorrow night if your plans fall through but tonight am at bloody work bloody boring bloody dinner

foxcub · 03/05/2007 18:48

PC we've had impetigo loads of times here. Boil wash all your towels and don't share towels with DD - we all caught it in the house but none of the Dc's friends caught it from them.

foxcub · 03/05/2007 18:49

ps exciting news - we have a delegation of aboriginal elders over from Oz and they'll be staying with us this weekend!

quokka · 03/05/2007 19:15

how exciting for you foxy, its such a fascinating culture

pudding77 · 03/05/2007 19:25

wow foxie, that sounds really good!

Paddle, hope dd clears up soon - seems like you're both picking up everything going at the minute

Think ds is cutting some big teeth at the minute, off his food so something must be going on!

MrsR, thanks for this morning. Tried to use it just now but dh complained that it was too noisy and he couldn't hear the television!
