Brockwell Park!

What about a Brockwell Park meet-up? So many current MN-ers are in Brixton and surrounding areas, and so many others have nostalgic memories of Brockwell Park from when they used to live here.

An informal picnic close to the cafe on weekend afternoon? A breakfast in the cafe?

I can think of me, Bossykate, Batters, Bungalowbelle, Zeitgeist, Hallgerda, the people who were on that coat-ripping-bus thread, Spidermama, Rowan1971, Floating, Tiredteacher, SandraDee, Evey, Serenity, Drospophila (I think).

Who's up for it?

Brilliant - I'll bring my bat detector .

(It doesn't work with Soupy's btw - perhaps I need one of the expensive time series ones for that).

moomymama · 04/05/2007 11:16

Thanks Blu - Pink balloons or a bat kite sound great - DS will sing his "Bat, Bat come under my hat" song :-)

Boo about the rats though, that was the bit I was especially looking forward to (never mind meeting some lovely local mums and babes...)

Hallgerda · 04/05/2007 21:13

One good point about moving to the Tulse Hill Estate, moomymama - the One o'Clock Club in Brockwell Park will be on your doorstep. It used to be very good when DS1 was little and it's been done up since (so vibrantly you can't miss it).

Spidermama · 05/05/2007 10:38

Hallgerda I remember it well. The one o'clock club, then the sw3ing park then Whippersnappers. Is that still there at the lido? Baby music group - more for the parents than the bewildered babies really.

moomymama · 05/05/2007 12:54

Yes, I'm trying to look at the positives too... There is also an adventure playground nearby

We've not seen the flat yet, we're going for a viewing on Wednesday - I'm chewing my nails down to the bone 'til then...

Where do you all live then ladies? and tell me about the lovely collections of kiddos you all have

Hallgerda · 09/05/2007 08:39

I hope the flat viewing goes well today, moomymama. I live in Streatham Hill and have three boys aged 12, 9 and 7, who may or may not come along on 20th (I'll leave it up to them to decide).

Spidermama, as far as I know Whippersnappers is still going. I went, briefly, with DS2 but he wasn't keen and I was heavily pregnant at the time so I didn't stick it out very long. I did, however, learn that Baa Baa Blacksheep sung in a minor key sounds awfully like the Vltava tune with the rhythm messed about, so I got something out of the experience

just added this as a new thread instead of adding it here - oh the joys of lack of sleep - I'l try again...I just saw in the NCT letter/mail out thingie that tomorrow night, Thursday 10th, there is a planned meet up for mums in the Prince Regent.

Apparently there will be some sort of identifier on the table so we don't randomnly invade an innocent gang of women out for an evening who don't want to discuss breast feeding, lack of sleep and the second stage of labour.

Just been reading this thread for the first time, sounds like there is a lot of amusing people out there, and I must say I could do with a laugh after being woken at 5.30 for the third morning running so hopefully see you all there

tia

Spidermama · 14/05/2007 14:51

I'm assuming this will be weather permitting. Looking forward to it.

serenity · 14/05/2007 21:43

I'm still coming, and Blu was saying on saturday that she was going too, so I hope it's still on!

Hallgerda · 15/05/2007 09:49

I'm still coming, and prepared to go to the cafe if it's raining .

bossykate · 15/05/2007 11:01

ok any more for any more?

Blu · 15/05/2007 11:23

Yes, I will be there - although I have just checked on Metcheck.com and it forecasts showers on Sunday afternoon...so shall we come with wet weather gear and be prepared to huddle in the cafe and get out and about in our waterproof rat stabbing gear when possible?

i'm still coming. can anybody advise me about parking near the park - are those streets usually residents' parking? I was thinking I could park on Upper Tulse Hill, just cos I used to live there and I remember it as being fairly clear. Anyone have any ideas?

I will, of course, be offsetting my journey by plantin several marijuana plants.

Blu · 15/05/2007 13:53

snort at your carbon offsetting plans, Rowan!

I think the best places to park are either on Brockwell Park Gardens, where there is a park entrance in the road, which leads up the hill to the cafe, or at the other end of the park in Arlingford rd near the playground - or else on Dulwich rd or in one of the small roads off Dulwich rd and come in through the Lido entrance. The car park by the Lido is closed because of the Lido buuilding works.

Residents parking doesn't count at w/e.

If you need any help at harvesting time rowan, you know where I am.

rowan1971 · 15/05/2007 13:58

Thank you, Blu. You give new meaning to the word 'comprehensive'.

See you Sunday!

rowan1971 · 15/05/2007 14:00

No way, SM. It's mine, I tell you. MINE! Bwa ha ha haaa!

serenity · 15/05/2007 19:10

Is the cafe on the top of the hill? I haven't been there for ages, and we usually only go for the Lambeth Country Show, so my memory is littered with sheep and steam engines, which I presume won't be there on Sunday?

rowan1971 · 15/05/2007 20:41

Oooh, I've been to the Lambeth County Show. How surreal is that? Once a year, all the Brixtonians pretend that they live in Wiltshire.
