Paddlechick666 · 12/02/2007 11:05

We never had a new Feb Thread!

Anyways, anyone fancy a half-term trip to
Bocketts Farm

I don't mind driving - can get 3 passengers.

Foxie, there's a tea rooms you could occupy whilst ds and dd come around the animals/activities with the rest of us (or me if it's just us!).

Very bizarre but D loves it (and I quite like it too). Three ripe oranges and one avocado blended. Thats it - tasts a bit like sloppy orange mousse (you can;t taste the avocado) Foxie tells me that adding avocado with thicken it a bit)

pudding77 · 22/02/2007 19:27

I'll have to try that. I do give ds banana and avocado mashed which he loves.

suejonez · 22/02/2007 19:29

I'll try that too had some bananas in my veg box this week - don;t generally buy them as I don;t like them much.

suejonez · 22/02/2007 19:31

I foolishly agreed to have someone over this evening (to pick my barins as she is off to KAz soon) but she didn;t specify a time and I (foolishly again didn;t ask) and now I am thinking - is she coming for dinner because I don;t have any for her; is she coming at all or can I collapse in front of some crap TV then go to bed early. Bugger. Hope she's not on Mumsnet

quokka · 22/02/2007 19:39

MrsRecycle · 22/02/2007 19:55

Sue - meant to say lovely to meet your ds and I think he had a little chat to my ds as he's now had a bath and is sleeping.

COV - Happy Birthday for tomorrow!

pudding - does your ds ever stop giggling?

Re. the tea - you put all put me to shame - we had McD's . I must admit I do like their new chicken wraps which is unusual as I normally detest McDs. By the time I'd got home I couldn't be bothered to cook and I need to go shopping. Can you tell dh is away - he normally does these chores - mind you bless him he did volunteer to do a shop before he left.

ComeOVeneer · 22/02/2007 20:02

We are a bit of a foodie family tbh. DD loves rather exotic tastes (she is rather keen on oysters ). I am a bit of a 50's housewife (to my shame) and love cooking, baking etc. Unfortunately that particular gene seems to have escaped ds who turns his nose up at most of the homemade stuff and sticks to fruit, vegetables, cheese and bread, although he does like crab rissotto .

MrsRecycle · 22/02/2007 20:04

mmm I like the sound of crab risotto - you'll have to give me a receipe to try out out on ds and me. Dd2 is allergic to shellfish and dd1 only likes fish fingers.

2Cute · 22/02/2007 20:15

sounds like the farm was fun!

Foxi - minty sperm YUUUUUK! Since when have you tried minty sperm to licken the taste of Gaviscon to it???? oooh er mrs.

Happy B'day for 2morrow CoV!

MrsRecycle · 22/02/2007 20:20

fun and wet 2cute.

ComeOVeneer · 22/02/2007 20:23

This is the recipe I use

Ingredients
1.1 vegetable stock
2 tbsp Olive oil
70g butter
4 medium leeks, finely sliced
1 large onion, finely sliced
4 sticks Celery, finely sliced
150ml White wine
400g Risotto rice
175g crabmeat (brown and white mixed)
50ml double cream
1 handful flat-leafed parsley, finely chopped
115g Parmesan cheese, grated or shaved

Method

  1. Pour the stock into a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  1. In a separate pan, heat the oil and butter over a low heat, add the leeks, onion and celery and cook for around five minutes, until they have softened, stirring occasionally.
  1. Tip in the rice and turn the heat up slightly. Stir and fry for a minute or so, to coat the grains with the oil and vegetables - the rice will gradually begin to turn translucent.
  1. Pour in the white wine and continue stirring over a moderate heat until most of it evaporates. If the rice looks like catching on the bottom of the pan, add an extra knob of butter.
  1. Add your first ladleful of hot stock to the pan and continue pouring in stock, a little at a time, until the risotto begins to take on a creamy texture ? take care not to add the stock too quickly.
  1. Once the rice is soft, but still has a slight bite, stir in the flaked crabmeat and heat through.
  1. Add the cream, Parmesan cheese, and parsley, and serve the risotto straight away in deep bowls.
MrsRecycle · 22/02/2007 20:28
