Summer Party - Birmingham - Saturday, June 16 2007

Okay I have spoken to a chap at Waxy's. This pub is going to be refurbished between now and next June.

We could use the sofa gallery for 60 people and depending on numbers combine with the Broad Street Bar for up to 120. The sofa gallery is the furthest area from the dance floor and therefore the quietest area of the pub. The pub will be quite lively at the weekend.

It is just off the ring road and very close to a Travel Lodge (according to Whimsy)

I thought we could book a room Feb/March time and organise a deposit. We will have a better idea how many are interested and if it's a likely goer.

Maybe - but will have an approx 12 week old in tow by then, so a bit difficult to make firm commitments. Live close enough to not need to stay anyway.

Just bumping this for those logging on this evening

I think if you can book far enough in advance you can get a two bed room for as little as £25 at Travelodge. but i guess if there are other big events that weekend they may not have the offer running. either way its still quite cheap if people share.

Ah look at that, I've put my name down right by my age

Gobbledigook · 22/11/2006 22:50

Jan - I think you can cancel anytime, even on day of arrival. But seen horror stories on Watchdog about Travelodge purposely overbooking...

Gobbledigook · 22/11/2006 22:50

Over booking.

Sorry.

JanH · 22/11/2006 22:52

You can, but not if you pay the bargain rates, GDG. Those are prepaid and not refundable.

I should think if we do standard bookings and re-confirm a few days ahead they should be OK?

(If not we can sleep in the car park )

I could deffo sleep in my car. Plus about 5 other MNetters. It's huge. Like a house on wheels

Rhubarb · 23/11/2006 10:28

Erm, did I not see something on Watchdog about Travelodge? Apparently if you book there is no guarantee that you'll get that room, they make overbooking one of their policies so on the night the rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis. If you arrive in the evening, you might find your room given to someone else!

So can I suggest all those booking a Travelodge room to go there before they go to the venue and bagsy the room.

fennel · 23/11/2006 11:41

am interested but can't commit to something so far ahead.

am am as was "definitely" going to last weekend's meetup but didn't make it so being more cautious. but will aim to come.
