Summer Party - Birmingham - Saturday, June 16 2007

Okay I have spoken to a chap at Waxy's. This pub is going to be refurbished between now and next June.

We could use the sofa gallery for 60 people and depending on numbers combine with the Broad Street Bar for up to 120. The sofa gallery is the furthest area from the dance floor and therefore the quietest area of the pub. The pub will be quite lively at the weekend.

It is just off the ring road and very close to a Travel Lodge (according to Whimsy)

I thought we could book a room Feb/March time and organise a deposit. We will have a better idea how many are interested and if it's a likely goer.

i want food

Rhubarb · 22/11/2006 16:44

Ok, here is their site. They do food. They also tell you where they are, they are 5mins walk from Birmingham New Street Station. Major station in Brum that has direct trains to almost everywhere. Which means you can either stay in the Travelodge also minutes away, or go home on the same day.

No-one has an excuse not to go!

JanH · 22/11/2006 16:44

Now, stitch?????

ledodgychristmasjumper · 22/11/2006 16:44

I agree with Rhubarb.

(still smug because my friend lives right by the station)

JanH · 22/11/2006 16:46

And the Travelodge looks to have about 12 floors, someone (whimsy? ledodgy?) linked to it on the other thread - well another thread, there are loads now, we need one labelled THE thread - so it will accommodate hundreds of us - how many beds are there in a Travelodge room? Can you fit 3 in?

JanH · 22/11/2006 16:52

It was whimsy

OK, travelodge website is here , whimsy said it's a stagger away from waxy's, and a twin room is £49 atm. (There is another one half a mile further away but I looked at the map and it's surrounded by major roads so maybe harder to walk from.)

Need to check that there aren't any major events on in Brum/W Midlands that weekend - I will have a go, but anybody local here, who knows???

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 16:53

Here is the Travelodge

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 16:57

Now stop taking my name off the lists. I've got some very busy days coming up and I will go where you go as long as I'm not on call! Sheessssssssssh!

JanH · 22/11/2006 17:16

Gardeners' World Live is on at the NEC that weekend (don't laugh!) - actually it's on between the 13th & the 17th and is combined with BBC Good Food and BBC Good Homes (details) so it might be a good idea to book some Travelodge rooms now (wonder what their cancellation policy is?)

Also there is a Beethoven-Mahler weekend at the Symphony Hall but I imagine that would involve more locals than visitors (but who knows...)

sniff · 22/11/2006 17:19

Count me in please I need a good excuse to come back home

WigWamBam · 22/11/2006 17:20

Umming and ahhing about this ... it's very close to me but I'm not sure about a big meet-up.

I'll have a think about it ...

The £49 rate at Travelodge is non-refundable; flexible rate is £66. There are family rooms which can sleep 3 adults, although one gets a sofa and one a "5 foot" pull-out (length or width???)

Flexible rate can be cancelled up to midday on date of arrival without penalty, and you pay on arrival, not in advance - coo. For a twin-bedded room that would be £33 a head, rather than £24.50 for the cheaper pay-in-advance rate, but you would forfeit that if you couldn't make it.

Anybody want to block-book right now?

JanH · 22/11/2006 17:27

Hope you will, WWB
