crunchie · 20/08/2006 22:11

I don't care if some of you want to go elsewhere beforehand or whatever, just to let you know there is a door charge after 9pm, so if you are coming late, come before then (although I am happy to negotiate a discount)

Just to set the record straight though IT IS NOT A CLUB!! It is a bar with a DJ where you can sit and chat - nice comfy sofas, AND where you can stand and dance.

The reason I suggested this was purely that last year it was tough on Custy, a nightmare of pre-ordering/deposits/bills etc etc. By choosing a simple venue with food if you want, no venue fee, no minimum spend etc etc I thought it would work for the majority.

If others want to sort out a 'pre-event' dinner - great (try to come on by 9pm due to door charge) OR we could find another local bar that people can leave if it all gets too much.

However I am over 35, I like music, dancing, blue eyeshadow and long hair

What I will do is check the place out properly, am happy to do a dry run sometime in September to see JUST how loud it is (as long as someone comes too )

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/08/2006 22:15

ooooh dry run.......not THATS a plan

Crunchie, I hope you don't think us awkward! I just feel that with people travelling as far as they are to get there, they should at least be able to have a good old natter for the evening. If its not that noisy, then great!!!

Will still look at other places to see if there is something more suitable. I dont mind sorting out finances etc - most places do huge bookings for corporate christmas do's so im pretty sure they can accommodate this.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/08/2006 22:16

er... now thats a plan

crunchie · 20/08/2006 22:20

here is what they say about it

About Us

In the heart of the west end, near Selfridges, rubylo represents an evolution of the dj bar.

A subtle fusion of bar and club, it offers the best of cocktails and interior design and then mixes it up with the raw fun and energy of the best dj venues.

With its vast expanses of comfortable leather banquettes, a 2a.m. license and a line up through the week of London's top bar djs, it is the perfect combination of bar and club. Come for an after work cocktail (or pint), or stay for a night of dancing.

To me the combination or cross between bar and club means music but not so IMPOSSIBLE to talk. Last year there was a DJ yet you still managed to talk over it. I can't see this being any louder tbh. However the music is likely to be better than last year and probably not a cheesy.

I am happy to look at other venues, BUT I think finding something to suit everyone will be hard.

There are loads of restuarants around, book tables for 6.30 pr 7 amd you will be at Rubys by 8.30 and get teh best of both!

hunkermunker · 20/08/2006 22:22

Can't have VVV diluting her wine in a salty fashion, can I?

crunchie · 20/08/2006 22:24

VVV look at Kettners then, looks good, food is good, live jazz, but no dancing.

When this meetup was suggested the bar idea was suggested as less organisation, just turn up and drink and or eat and dance and chat. Organisation was difficult last year and v stressful as people dropped out at last min, we all had to pre-order food, pay a deposit etc etc. It was also expensive £35+ IRRC and wasn't that good. By doing a bar, if you buy a bottle of wine at £15 you can have a good night out for not much money.

Anyway I am not bothered either way, I am happy for others to take over, I only suggested a bar that seemed a good place

CountTo10 · 20/08/2006 22:26

Is it to late to elbow my way into this creep creep??? Sounds like lots of fun.

crunchie · 20/08/2006 22:31

Cut and paste the list, add yourself to teh bottom.

VVV do email me on lucywest at ntlworld dot com I am happy to look at other venues, honest!!

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 20/08/2006 22:59

I am (semi) new too and do like the idea of a night out but....... I am over 35. Oh fuck. Just realised November 18th is after I turn 40. There we are then. What I'm wondering is, will I be the mutton to all your lamb?!

SaintGeorgeMarple · 20/08/2006 23:01

Secur - not even considered transport yet. Have bagged a space on VQ's floor for the night.

southeastastra · 20/08/2006 23:01

haha ecatlm

flutterbee · 20/08/2006 23:01

Hi one and all, I still have to book my hotel. I'm not going to do it till much closer to the time but I would be happy to book with anyone.

The noise situation had crossed my mind too (and I'm only 28) so if a bite to eat first is organised then I would love to join you.

If you will have me...........

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/08/2006 23:02

St G, email me about your journey down
