Been here 7yrs now have 2 ds's 2yrs and 6months and am married to a pom so looks like I'm here for the long run! The closest I get to an aussie now is watching neighbours (I know its quite pathetic). Anyway if there are any others who fancy a catch up, I'm in west london?

I'm sure my mum will be bringing over a suitably embarassing chrissy suit for dd to wear. I still have to sort out presents for my parents, don't fancy facing the xmas crush with bub though. Should have been more organised and ordered online!

Quokka I would be keen to meet up at some stage but am still quite nervous about taking the bub out for long periods, have only managed about 3 hours max so far. Haven't breastfed in public yet! We are going to do a test run this week because I am taking her into work in the city to meet everyone.

I am watching home & away on the telly right now, how sad

Ah bless thats what grandparents do well! Mellin you should still have time to buy online, if your quick. Otherwise have you got a snappy snaps close by? You can email them photos and they can put them on mugs, mousemats or anything, really quickly, and its not too pricey. Grandparents love that kind of thing .

Kew gardens is full of mums so you shouldn't feel out of place there even bf. Even when the weather is bad you can go inside to one of the restaurants, and eat cake and bf . Might be nice to get a photo of dd and Santa?

Mellin · 12/12/2006 14:28

Snappy snaps is a great idea. There is one close to us in Fulham, might have to pay them a visit this week.

I probably just have to bite the bullet with the whole breastfeeding in public thing, otherwise I'll never go on big excursions from the house! So Quokka if you are up for a visit to Kew Gardens sometime next week I am game. I think I can get the district line from Earls Court to Kew. And what's the worst that happen - she screams down the gardens!

2quokkasandapeartree · 12/12/2006 19:34

Good for you! Wed, and Thursdays are good for me. Otherwise I can do Tues and Fri mornings, but must leave by 12:20 to pick up ds1 from nursery. I'll try to work around you and feeding, so let me know the best times. I have free passes so we should met out the front of Victoria Gate (closest to the station).

Any other lurkers from this thread are welcome by the way.

Hi
I don't think we are quite ready to brave the journey to Kew just yet!
DH back at work today
DS still not settling well. Have had to leave him to cry for a bit and he seems to have settled himself for now, but did this before and woke again.
We bought a proper swaddling blanket yesterday and tried him in it and he got so worked up, made him worse!

2quokkasandapeartree · 13/12/2006 12:54

like the name change! Ds1 didn't settle well at first but he got the hang of it eventually. Let me know a good day to pop around .

cori · 13/12/2006 13:06

I might be able to make it too, depending on what day you decide.
Mellin, with DS 1 I was very uncomfortable BF in public, but by the time I had DS 2 I could BF anywhere. I was once congratulated by an elderly lady for having the confidence to BF in a coffee shop I was very proud of myself.

The best thing about being a mother for the second time is not necessarily that it is easier, but it is knowing that the difficult bits are just stages. Newborn babies are hard work, but it does get easier. DS 2 (now 7 months) was a nightmare for the first couple of months, now he is a really easy happy baby.

2quokkasandapeartree · 13/12/2006 13:36

cool cori, it will be nice to see you again!

Mellin · 13/12/2006 13:48

Kaybee I hope you are doing ok with dh back at work. Does Zak get grumpy in the evenings? My dd does so dh when he gets home does the grumpy shift with her. Felt guilty at first that he always got her when she was fussy but now it's sweet relief!

Ok how about next Wednesday 20th Dec for Kew Gardens? We should be over our trip to the city by then and ready for another adventure! Meeting at 11am would suit me, if that's ok with you Quokka?

Is there a way we can exchange mobile numbers without posting on chat?

We are off to snappy snaps now to check out chrissy presents!

KaybeeandZak · 13/12/2006 17:31

Still having trouble bf, midwife said to stop with shields as they may restrict supply. Tried this afternoon without and he fed an hour on each boob and then started screaming and wouldnt go back on. What's with that!??!?!
Midwife tried to show me correct position to feed in but he wasn't hungry so wouldn't co-operate......... He was a perfect little angel while we were there, not a squeek out of him [hmmm]

Quokka, am free Fri, Tues, Wed arvo, Thurs and next Fri if any of those days suit you

KaybeeandZak · 13/12/2006 17:32

Oh and Mellin, yes DS does get extra grumpy in the evenings, from about 7 - 11 !

cori · 13/12/2006 21:27

DS 2 had bad evenings as well. It could be a bit of colic. Try some infacol, white noise also seems to distract them, a running tap or radio static might calm them. Actually I have a white noise CD that one of you can have, will bring it next week.

2quokkasandapeartree · 14/12/2006 11:37

got a stinking hangover and the kids are taking full advantage ! .

Wed sounds good we should meet at the Victoria gate. What do you look like Mellin?

Cori, mellin do you do cats?

Mellin · 14/12/2006 13:53

Oh to have a hangover again! Actually it is my bday today and tonight we are going to have a feast of sushi and champagne. Maybe dd will sleep extra well tonight . Looking forward to my parents being here so dh and I can actually go out and have a meal together!

Victoria gates it is then. I looked on the map and the tube is pretty close to those gates, yes?

I am short, blondey-brown shoulder length hair (which will be in a ponytail no doubt as I haven't had a haircut since before the birth!). I will have dd in a navy baby bjorn. BTW my name is Melanie and dd is Nina.

I do cats but dh doesn't, he is an allergic cat hater.

2quokkasandapeartree · 14/12/2006 15:12

Happy Birthday!!!!!!! Have a lovely night tonight.

lol a cat is when you contact another talker, not real pussy cats. Don't worry its an easy mistake to make, I'll put it down to the "baby haze".

I've got shoulder length brown wavey hair, red glasses, will have 2 boys one blonde and one ginger

Mellin · 14/12/2006 16:18

ohmegawd I am so dense!! I thought your cat had kittens and you were giving them away or something like that!!

I will investigate cats now i know what it is in mumsnet speak.....

2quokkasandapeartree · 14/12/2006 16:34

it a safe way to exchange emails and phone numbers. Don't worry you'll get used to the lingo, I'm still learning! Have a fab night tonight

Mellin · 15/12/2006 16:22

Quokka I think I just got the cats thing working, a message should be on it's way to you.

Today we had an adventure as I took dd into work at Holborn as everyone had been wanting to meet her. She had her first tube ride (picadilly line) and she lasted about 20mins in the office being passed around before she started yelling. I even breastfeed her in public (in a quiet corner of starbucks), so bring on Kew Gardens!

Mellin · 18/12/2006 14:24

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I love the weekends, soooo much easier with dh and an extra pair of hands around. And dd always settles more easily with dh that me, maybe she can sense my nervesness/blind panic!

Kaybee you still hanging in there?

KaybeeandZak · 18/12/2006 18:36

Hi Mellin
yes i am still hanging in here! DS is asleep at the moment, so have just been madly rushing around doing dishes, washing and trying to get some order around here!!
I love the weekend too, having DH around was soo nice. Am looking foward to Christmas just because he will have a few days off!!

2quokkasandapeartree · 18/12/2006 19:22

I've had a manic weekend! Kids Chritmas party, was hyper, but we (dh and I) ended the night having a nice dinner and saw Casino Royale. The inlaws got stuck with the hyper kids . Well they did encourage ds1 to eat lots of sweets! Poor thing ended up saying "I'm going upstairs to bed". and off he went.

The movie was good but Daniel craig looked like he had lip gloss on the entire time. I don't think I've ever sen a man pout like that! Well I lie, I have but they're all gay!

Mellin · 19/12/2006 13:17

Me too Kaybe, can't wait for dh to be home over xmas. He gets a half day on Friday and I'm counting down the days!

We went to baby clinic this morning and dd has finally reached 9lb. 9lb7oz to be exact.

We still on for tomorrow Quokka? It's a lovely day today so hopefully the same tomorrow. Will give you a call tomorrow morning.

2quokkasandapeartree · 19/12/2006 13:31

Yep still on for Kew. Cori are you coming as well? Hopefully I will get a park easily out the front this time . If I am a bit late thats why!

KaybeeandZak · 19/12/2006 19:15

DS got weighed today, he's 9lb 3oz !!! I am so pleased he has put on weight, he should have the way he has been eating over the last week

Hope you all have a nice time at Kew, wish I could join you but maybe next time.

2quokkasandapeartree · 19/12/2006 19:33
