Been here 7yrs now have 2 ds's 2yrs and 6months and am married to a pom so looks like I'm here for the long run! The closest I get to an aussie now is watching neighbours (I know its quite pathetic). Anyway if there are any others who fancy a catch up, I'm in west london?

Mellin the younger they are the easier it is. I just fed a little and alot and he slept all of the way. We did tend to forget he was in the skybed to be honest . It's harder if your not bf, and when they can move about.

Mellin · 05/12/2006 10:23

Qokka you're probably right about the plane journey with the bub, mine never sleeps longer than 3 hours at a stretch which is about all I can manage on a plane anyway. Do you ever think you might move back to Oz with the family, or are you here for good?

2quokkasandapeartree · 05/12/2006 10:29

I'm here for a while, but would like to think that one day we would move back. My dh lost his ds to cancer and now that he's the only child (in a very close family) its unlikely that we will move away from them.

Saying that dh might have a job offer in Singapore, but when it comes to the crunch I don't think he'll take it . I would love to as I think the kids are at the right age where we could do it, and it would be a great experience. Much closer to my family in Perth as well (5hrs) !

2quokkasandapeartree · 05/12/2006 10:34

Bubs will start to sleep longer stretches soon. Once dd's belly gets a bit bigger, then she can take more milk and sleep longer (and so can you)!

Kaybee7777 · 05/12/2006 14:51

oh my god how will i ever get anything done ever again..................

2quokkasandapeartree · 05/12/2006 14:54

kaybee it will get easier!

2quokkasandapeartree · 05/12/2006 15:00

I promise. Also the memory of the labour will fade and in a couple of weeks you will say it wasn't that bad and in a few months (or years) you'll want another one . Have you got a screamer or an eater?

cori · 05/12/2006 16:23

Kaybee, you dont have to get anything done. Only thing that matters is feeding the little one and sleeping. Those are the priorities.

Mellin, are both you and DH from Australia. ?

Kaybee7777 · 05/12/2006 17:01

He is an eater at the moment, but was a sleeper prior to that and may turn into a screamer at any moment!!! Am managing to bf with help of nipple shields (couldnt do it before them) but the sterilizing is a pain in the arse....

Midwife turned up yesterday and the house was a tip and i felt so embarrassed but i guess i will just have to learn how to live with it!!

Isn't it funny that no matter how awful the birth was you forget and still want more kids......

Mellin · 05/12/2006 17:50

Kaybee my house is still a tip! Don't stress about that. When the midwife visited us on day 2 I opened the door and burst into tears, I'm sure she wrote in my notes somewhere "nutjob alert".
I found breastfeeding really difficult in the first few weeks, but soon enough I developed nipples of steel and it is easier.

I can't believe my dd is only 5 weeks and I am already talked like the first week was past history!! This will be you too soon.

Mellin · 05/12/2006 17:58

Quokka - Singapore would be a great place to live with young kids I reckon. We have friends with kids in Singapore and Hong Kong and both places have huge expat communities and life sounds pretty good. Maids and all that crap, can't be bad! Plus being closer to Oz is a bonus. Sounds like the dh family situation is tough though, do the grandparents live close by?

Cori - we are both from Oz, but you would think by dh is a pom by how much he loves it over here and doesn't want to go back to Oz. I love it here to but do want to go back in the not too distant future. He never wants to go back. Divorce looming?!

2quokkasandapeartree · 05/12/2006 19:19

Kaybee get dh (or mil) to clean the house and go to the shops to get you some savoy cabbage - it really works. A leaf in each bra cup works a treat and you don't have to sterilise!

2quokkasandapeartree · 05/12/2006 19:26

Mellin they live just out of Brighton, so not too far. They always complain that they don't see the kids enough but then I remind them that my family have only met them once!

Kaybee7777 · 06/12/2006 11:10

the sheilds arent for the pain, thy r the only way i can get him to latch on due to float nipples (tmi )

its so nice having you guys to chat to Had a freakout last night aboout when dh goes back to work, he is looking after me so well... still a week b4 that happens thou

Kaybee7777 · 06/12/2006 11:11

that was flat not float !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2quokkasandapeartree · 06/12/2006 11:52

I remember panicing a bit when dh went back to work, but it was fine and we just got on. Maybe your nips will get bigger the more you bf?

Found this
you might have already read it?

Mellin · 07/12/2006 13:41

Quokka is your oldest old enough to be into Xmas yet?

I can't believe it's only a couple of weeks till Xmas. Last 6 weeks have been a blur! All I want for Xmas is some sleep! I really didn't know much at all about babies when I got pregnant. I thought they just ate when they were hungry and just dropped off to sleep on their own when they were sleepy! Spent ages this morning trying to get her to sleep and now when I am feeding her she keeps wanting to drop off to sleep! That's my whinge for the day over with. How is everyone else doing?

cori · 07/12/2006 15:05

Hi Mellin My Dh is aaustralian too, we are thinking about going back to oz in a couple of years time. We were there in Ocotober and thought we would like to live there again. Before this last trip though we were like your DH and thought we would never change our minds.

These days i dont think anyone ever knows much about babies before they have them. It will all come and life will start to get easier soon. My Db is six months old now and is happily sleeping on a cushion on the lounge room floor. ( great just in time for the school run. )

2quokkasandapeartree · 07/12/2006 16:47

just got ds's train set today, I think he will know whats going on this year. Have been meaning to buy him a book with pictures so he can understand it a bit better. I was soooo excited when it was his first christmas

2quokkasandapeartree · 07/12/2006 17:55

Have a great photo of ds1 in a reindeer baby grow, and it's ds2's turn this year.

Plan on getting it enlarged for their 21st birthday parties

Mellin · 08/12/2006 14:43

Yeah I'm looking forward to chrissy because my folks will be here. This is the first grandchild for them so they are soooo excited, mightn't be after they change their first nappy!

hehe re 21st photos Quokka. I have one of dd 1 day old having her hearing test and they put these plastic ears things on her and she looks like a teletubbie. That's being tucked away for the 21st for sure.

So Quokka and Cori is it true what they say - the second child is easier?? I can't imagine it at the moment, in awe of anyone with more than 1 kid!!

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 15:50

I think its easier, but only because you've done it before and know what to expect. Also if your lucky the first born can help you do lots of things!

Ds1 loves cleaning at the mo, he goes around with a spray bottle (with water in) and cleans for ages! Not sure that the walls like it but hey it keeps him quiet and busy.

We should try and organise another Kew gardens day? They have a great Santa there, that doesn't get too busy during the week. Not sure if ds1 will sit on his lap but I'm sure ds2 will, he'll give anyone a cuddle and a smile. Second child syndrome!

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 15:51

lol at the teletubbies!

kiwibella · 10/12/2006 13:23

CONGRATULATIONS KAYBEE!!! at wanting more... it's funny how quickly you forget what you went through to get this wee fella I'm sure your dh is rapt too. All the very best for when he goes back to work. He will be racing to get back in the door at the end of each day .

Too much talk of Christmas - I am so unorganised this year. Dd is off to NZ next week and I haven't done any shopping. My sis left today and was going to take her Santa pressies. I will have to hide them in her case now. Bless her, 10 and still believes in Santa. She won't sit on his knee anymore so no more pretty Santa photos .

There are loads of lovely Chrissy books, Quokka. You will have so much fun choosing one for him. Costumes sound great... bet they will love the pics in years to come .

Hope everyone's ok

2quokkasandapeartree · 11/12/2006 09:58

mil bought the costumes, so I can blame her for that. Not sure I could buy them myself.
