Manchester Mumsnetters?!

Juno and I are moving to Manchester in about 5 weeks time (from London!). We're both from Manchester originally, but have both been in London for 12 years +. We'll be staying in Stockport for a few months and then hoping to buy somewhere in the South Manchester/Stockport area.

Just wondered if there are any Mumsnetters around the place 'up North' for meet ups?!

oops, meant to ask are there any good manchester related websites, info?

pjsmum · 16/09/2005 11:38

There is a link on the bbc wesite bbc.co.uk/lifeinmanchester or something like that. Info on schools, property, shopping etc. Mancmum- i'm the one who still looks pregnant and thoroughly unhappy to be there!!
Gracesmum a meet up would be good, someone had suggested a northwest xmas do but seems no takers. Maybe something sooner?

Manchester is a great place to live! Ther's a website here called Manchester online which has loads of info about the city. You'd love it up here, up manchester mn'ers are a friendly bunch!

I know South Manchester pretty well having lived here most of my life, so if there's anything you want to ask then feel free!

btw the sun is shining today, the Peak District hills look gorgeous from my lounge window and all's well with the world........ahhh
contentment!

P.S watch 'It's Grim up North' tonight BBC2 10pm - full of reasons to move North!

mancmum · 16/09/2005 13:57

should we do a meet up -- would have to be south manchester or I will get lost!!

PJsMum -- you sound exactly like me in the gym.... a look of resignation that my only time out is spent fruitlessly in the gym... still at least it sell wine!!

majorstress · 16/09/2005 14:10

will be watching "It's grim," with wine, with interest!

Gracesmum · 17/09/2005 03:38

how about trafford centre, or city centre? majorstress you are welcome in our gang, dont need disguise, not many shellsuits in manchester

Lucycat · 17/09/2005 09:49

Wow Gracesmum that was an early morning post!

Another sunny and fresh day in Manchester. In terms of jobs MS, there are lots of opportunities in academia in Manchester, we have the highest number of students of any city in western Europe - and they all need educating! and of course it's easy enough to commute to Bolton, Liverpool, Preston, Lancaster (sure I've missed some!) and they all have Unis too!

We can even find you a house if you let us know your approx budget! Kirstie & Phil have nothing on us!

majorstress · 17/09/2005 12:39

cool, though I'm sure dh has a shellsuit somewhere that he refuses to throw out....I think I borrowed it to work in garden recently. Enjoyed the Grim up north program, especially the weather quips. He's kind of backpedalling now, having seen the ad, thinks he might be taking a very big paycut after all, and hating the street we live on isn't a good reason to go haring across the country. But after over 15 years here, we have always lived in identical streets with similarly lovely neigbours, so I guess we can't afford better. He wants me to quit work altogether and live simply in the countryside, (like, Hertfordshire, longer commute for him but trains are better than Tube somewhat), saving money by being a canny housewife, get a dog, growing veggies, home educating, that sort of lark. Sort of tempting in certain lights, except for the slipped disc. It's not holding up very well on 3 days at home a week already.

Lucycat · 17/09/2005 12:50

Ah well! tell him to keep an eye for jobs 'oop north' we really are a friendly bunch! You can always do the 'good life' in Cheshire - v posh there though! much more Margo then Barbara!

mill · 19/09/2005 18:00

GRACESMUM, just got your message.SORRY AND THANK YOU

majorstress · 20/09/2005 13:20

you can CAT me, it's better than giving your email out-be a bit patient though I am not majorstress for nothing, "things" happen to me a lot. Right now my mobile seems to have died for example, so will no doubt be filled with irate texts from outraged ertswhile nannies, if I ever get it going again. regarding the bumbo, I want about £10 to cover the postage and packaging. It's in vgc, and a v good product IMO. This is probably nothing to do with Manchester, sorry Manchester mummies! I hope you are all having a good laugh!!!

pjsmum · 20/09/2005 20:49
