Manchester Mumsnetters?!

dot1 · 09/09/2003 13:59

Juno and I are moving to Manchester in about 5 weeks time (from London!). We're both from Manchester originally, but have both been in London for 12 years +. We'll be staying in Stockport for a few months and then hoping to buy somewhere in the South Manchester/Stockport area.

Just wondered if there are any Mumsnetters around the place 'up North' for meet ups?!

Hi dot1, yes there are quite a few up here I think and there was a recent meet-up in manchester (I couldn't go)

are you looking forward to it?

kmg1 · 09/09/2003 14:28

Hi Dot1 - hope you are looking forward to "coming home"! Do prepare yourself for a bit of culture shock though. I used to live in the NE, but moved progressively further and further south, ending up in Oxfordshire, but always longed to return 'up North'. Finally made it last year (to the NW), after 14 years in exile.

It was a real shock to come back, and I wasn't really prepared for it, despite wanting it for so long. I found it hard coping at first because everyone was so open, honest (blunt!) ... friendly! Of course I love it now

dot1 · 09/09/2003 15:57

thanks - yes, I'm looking forward to it, but starting to think about the things I'll miss - like the tube system! Can't imagine getting buses everywhere - and not knowing how many minutes I have to wait...!

Bit scared that we don't have many friends in Manchester - we've got 1 good set of friends with children, and then our parents, but that's about it.

I'll be working full-time (until I go on maternity leave!) and dp will be a full time SAHM, so I'm more thinking about her sanity - we've got a 21 month old and she'll need to plug into lots of groups I think.

Anyway, thanks and maybe when we're finally up there - towards the end of October - I'll try and sort out a meet up!

Hi. We had a great meet up a few weeks ago - Ninja, OliveOil, Rhubarb, Gumdrop and me. We all said we'd like to meet up again so lets do something when you get here?? Welcome back to Manchester - you must have got that job then?! Congratulations!

ForestFly · 09/09/2003 16:11

I four miles from Stockport Dot1 where are you staying? Oh and good luck!

JemimaBobbins · 09/09/2003 16:13

Well I'd be interested in a Manchester meet-up too. I've been visiting mumsnet on and off for a while now but only recently come back so missed the recent meet-up. I live S Mcr/Stockport.

dot1 · 09/09/2003 16:23

thanks! Yes, I got the job - very scary indeed... We'll be in Heaton Chapel with my Mum for the moment, so not far from Manchester/Stockport, so that'll be great - I'll keep in touch via this thread.

Hi Everyone

I live in Manchester and heard of the meet up in August (well read of it) i usually read all the conservations but don't have the courage to get involved - would love to chat and make a few freinds as i am quite isolated ( well i have been until recently - when i went back to work full time)- would love to get to know other mothers and share issues of concern so i don't feel like the wicked witch of the north west for constant shouting at the kids all of the time!!!!!

TheFennelandtheIvy · 02/12/2004 16:44

hi Kneez

I live in S manchester too. are you new to mumsnet? how many/old are your child/ren?

I have 3 - age 4,3,7months and work 3/4 time.
and yes I shout at them too

don't know any other manchester mumsnetters apart from Dot1 though.

hollybet · 02/12/2004 16:50

Hello

Count me in for a meetup - was on holiday in August. Would love to see everyone again. Janh is usually up for a night out as well. And what about Tinker?

Congrats on the job dot , do you have family round here?

TheFennelandtheIvy · 02/12/2004 16:52

that meetup was over a year ago I think - I didn't go. was quite new to mumsnet at the time.

moniker · 02/12/2004 16:55

I am a Manchester mumsnetter but a sporadic poster as work full time and only get on the net at work. I live in East Manchester and work in South Manchester - not too far from Chorlton. There are some others - Glitterfairy, FestiveFly, and more I'm sure. Mx

Levanna · 04/12/2004 23:22

Another East Manchester dweller here. I hadn't realised there are so many other MNers living in Manchester .

Flip · 06/12/2004 21:59

I'm from around Manchester and pop on mumsnet from time to time. Have already met Moniker at a previous meet up. Would be nice to catch up again but don't often get chance to chat on here. Could someone send me a CAT if there is going to be another meetup?

Thanks

Flip

Lua · 07/12/2004 15:03

Hi everybody!
I am relatevely new to mumsnet and England. Live in south Manchester, and would love to go for a meeting of MNers!
By the way.... I am expecting in June, and am wondering about different hospitals in the area. Anyone has good bad experiences, recommendations to make?
Thanks!

MancMum · 07/12/2004 15:34

I live in south manchester and have had 2 kids - 1 at Wythenshawe and 1 at St Mary's - both by C-section (planned)... I personally preferred St Mary's... rooms were nicer, care better... and it was easier to get to and park at...

can bore you senseless with more info if you need it..

maybe it is time for another meetup? I have not made it to one - don't post often as can not type as fast as I think (ie very slow!) and find it easier to lurk...

hollybet · 07/12/2004 15:59

Should we arrange one?

When is Rhuby in the country?

JanH · 07/12/2004 16:59

Dec 16 - Jan 6 I think, lilibet. Lots of time but a busy time of year...would be great if she could come! I will email her Smile

mediagirl · 07/12/2004 17:32

Hi all you mancunians...........I live outside of Rochdale, however, am originally from Manchester. My parents still live there and I work at the Quays (on mat leave at moment due back in Feb)would definitely be up for a meet up and I know a couple of others on this site would be too. I have 2 kiddies DS who is currently going through the terrible twos and DD who is 3 months. Keep me posted as to when the meet up is or cat me Smile x

Levanna · 08/12/2004 01:33

Lua, I'm in east manchester and had DD1 at St.Mary's and DD2 at home. The home birth was my preference Wink.

DickWhittingtonsCat · 08/12/2004 15:41

I am gatecrashing ... We'll be in Manchester over Xmas and New Year, which is always fun, but my parents don't know anyone with young children, and all my friends have moved away now. Ds and I would love to come and meet some of you over the holiday, perhaps at one of the galleries or museums in town (eg MSI, Art gallery, PHM etc). Would anyone be interested in meeting up some time after Xmas - an interlude from Xmas TV and sales shopping?

mediagirl · 08/12/2004 21:04

Hi Dickwhittingtonscat,
We would love to meet up, after xmas would be good, less hectic and more time to spend! The Trafford Centre has a really nice soft play area which is quite new and clean and has a ball pool too which would be nice for the kids to play. I find museums tend to be a bit too "grown up" for my son and he soon gets bored. How old is your son?

Lucycat · 10/12/2004 13:12

dot1 I know that you were in Heaton Chapel back in September, but I'm a new Mner and live in Heaton Norris i.e 2 mins away if you fancy a chat and are still in the area!

charlie01 · 13/12/2004 12:07

Hi everyone, I'm new to mumsnet and haven't got a clue how this works but would defo like to meet some mums in the area!

Lucycat, I live in Heaton Norris too!

Lucycat · 13/12/2004 12:32

Hi Charlie01, I still find it really weird that there are all these people sitting at computers 'talking' to each other who probabaly live a few streets away from each other!! how old are your DDs/DSs ? I've got 2 DDs one 41/2 and the other 19mths, she's asleep which is why I can waste time here, instead of doing something dull like houswork!!
