Week 4 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - Focus, Focus, Focus!

Fingers crossed for some good results this morning!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Don't forget that it's still very common for people to experience little or no loss by week 4. If this is happening to you, and you know that you haven't cheated, then don't panic. Just keep on keeping on, and by next week (hopefully!) you will be rewarded with a loss.

The losses from that point are likely to be in the region of 1-2lbs a week (may be more if you have a lot to lose), but that will all be fat. And although I know it doesn't sound a lot, just visualise it. 2lbs is 4 packs of lard, which is a lot of fat!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure you're keeping an eye on how many carbs you're eating, and don't get carried away with the nuts and fruit or the alcohol.

Here's to a good week!

marking my place... very late to the party.
Am keeping on keeping on but seem to have come to a (temporary I hope standstill, 3 months in.) It does seem just the odd glass of wine of a weekend is enough to halt me in my tracks darnit. I find this woe very easy and have no carb cravings at all or real hunger to speak of... but it would be nice to have just a glass of wine now and again hmm.. or Hmm even

JustasmallGless · 02/10/2013 19:57

Have had a horrific sickness bug which has fortunately knocked a couple of pounds of the scales but not to be recommended.
QueenQueenie you do find that you whoosh all of a sudden if you stick to it. There is a school of thought that you need some carbs for your metabolism to then kick back in.
IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE BTW!!

You could maybe try a day with carby veg instead of normal green ones and slightly carbier treats then cut back to bootcamp. I have always done bootcamp light at the weekends drank shedloads of alcohol and lost 2 stone and kept it off.

holmessweetholmes · 02/10/2013 20:21

I'm afraid I'm quitting Sad. Hardly any weight lost over all, and don't really feel or look different either. I don't really feel it's been worth the considerable effort it has taken to change my way of eating. I'm going to try not to go back to being a complete carby twat - will still generally avoid sugar and wheat, I think, and go for small portions of other carbs. Good luck with it all, folks!

JustasmallGless · 02/10/2013 20:54

Oh dear holmes such a shame if you haven't found any benefits.
Out of interest how much have you lost over the last 3 1/2 weeks?

Good luck!

holmessweetholmes · 02/10/2013 20:58

Nothing. I lost loads all in one go, which I presume was water. Then I edged back up and have been constantly fluctuating between a couple of pounds above my original weight and a few pounds below.
The thing is, I could dither around tweaking my fat, water and dairy intake, but if it's going to require that much precision then I'm not sure it's tenable for me as a permanent WOE.

JustasmallGless · 02/10/2013 21:20

Hey you've got to do what's right for you.

I'm evangelical because the way it helped me both physically and mentally. The health benefits outweigh the pre planning it requires which tbh isn't much any more.

You shouldn't need to tweak anything if you stick to the recommended water for your weight and eat plenty of fat. You have only been doing this for 3 weeks and your body has been eating carbs for a lot longer than that! To lose 8lbs in one go is a lot hence why your body may be adjusting.

The thing that swing to for me was reading dr Briffa about the science as to why it works. I like India and Nerys for the emotional eating side.

That wasn't all aimed at you Holmes and am rambling on now so off to bed. Night y'all

BIWIZ · 02/10/2013 21:39

holmes - please don't go! Have you read the posts I've written about weeks 3 and 4? That's exactly what you are experiencing!

You lost quite a lot if I recall - and it wouldn't all have been water.

Your body is now adjusted to fat burning instead of carb burning.

Dont change anything! If it worked for you to lose 8 lbs, then you were doing it right!

You need to be a bit more patient, honestly.

It is so, so, so common for people to experience this in weeks 3 or 4. Don't give up now as you have done the hardest bit.

holmessweetholmes · 02/10/2013 22:07

Hmm. You might have persuaded me to stay for a while Grin. I had a rubbish day today and was feeling grumpy.

BIWIZ · 02/10/2013 22:23

Well - are you enjoying this way of eating?

Do you feel like its a diet?

Do you feel deprived in any way?

If you are happy eating like this, just relax about it all for a couple of weeks (whilst still following the rules of course!) and see how it goes.

Hey Holmes - it's a shame you are disheartened. If it helps, I lost not a single gram in week 3 then lost 2kg in week 4 (I started a week ahead of the bootcamp). Just go for a nother week and see if the scales change. I am currently sitting in a pair of cotton crops that I could not get into a year ago. Even if the scales don't move much.

whodunnit · 02/10/2013 22:53

Captainmummy. I had a feeling my kidneys were at the back :) .... my side niggle continues along with some very weird gurgling noises. I quite obviously have a knotted gut.... and last night I drank 1.5 litres of water just befoer bed and didn't need to get up in the night,a nd didn't have that huge a pee in the morning. So I have either a knotted gut on my left side, or a hole in my guts and the water is leaking out into my body cavities... I'm not very medially minded so I can see I shall have to google this.

And interestingly I didn't drink much all day and I noticed this evening that my breath stank. I am back on the large bottles of water now I am home.

Off to hypochondriacs.com now,,,,,,,,,

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/10/2013 23:16

whodunnit maybe stick a pin in your toe and see if it comes gushing out Wink

Seriously though, keep drinking the water and see how you feel. You can always see your GP if you are still worried or it doesn't get better?

whodunnit · 02/10/2013 23:32

Thanks Mrs Hercule - IT WORKED. I have wet feet but feel great now!

Sorry to continue the whinge, but the problem isn't so much a temporary week-3-stall so much as an overall-haven't-really lost any weight!
To answer your questions BIWI, I am ok with the WOE. I like the fact that I am not hungry all the time and I like the foods I can eat. Tbh though, I was looking forward to re-introducing some carbs at some stage, but my slow, one step forward two steps back weightloss seems to indicate that I need to get MORE strict rather than less strict at this point. I cannot imagine staying on full bootcamp rules for the rest of my life!

BIWIZ · 03/10/2013 13:12

I rather think it's more about getting your body fully ketogenically adapted, Holmes.

If you're happy eating like this for another couple of weeks, just try and relax about it all.

Are you sleeping well?
Are you under any particular stress?
Are you on any medication?

holmessweetholmes · 03/10/2013 13:27

Ah - yes, I'm on beta blockers. And yes, I have just started a new job which is proving to be more stressful than expected! You're right though - I will just try and chill out and see how it goes.

BIWIZ · 03/10/2013 13:38

And don't worry about 'whinging' - that's what these threads are for! Grin

BIWIZ · 03/10/2013 13:41

Looks like beta blockers can impede weight loss, Holmes.

But they are serious drugs obviously to deal with a problem, so don't stop taking them!

holmessweetholmes · 03/10/2013 15:15

Thanks BIWI Smile. I am just whingy about everything atm. And it's not even totm.

Lavenderhoney · 03/10/2013 15:53

Another week lc and managing ( just) to keep off the wine.

I've been dithering about doing uber bootcamp, is anyone else doing it? I've never attempted it before!

Kids party today and carbs all the way, but I didnt touch any, even though there was stuff for parents, plus a huge lovely looking cake!

Feeling quite virtuous, although I have to drink another 1.5 litres of water before bed yet..

AuntieMaggie · 03/10/2013 17:57

Another 2lbs down but I didn't eat much yesterday so may be temporary.

Feeling very virtuous as someone made a chocolate fudge cake in work today and I didn't want any...

I may have to eat some pineapple next week though... apparently it helps ttc...

HighJinx · 03/10/2013 18:40

So if you are a carby twat do you undo all that you have done up to that point and in effect start again at the beginning?

I don't mean putting all the weight back on but in terms of your body becoming ketogenically adapted. Is there a point after which you can take sneak a treat and not undo the good?
