Week 4 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - Focus, Focus, Focus!

BIWI · 30/09/2013 07:18

Fingers crossed for some good results this morning!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Don't forget that it's still very common for people to experience little or no loss by week 4. If this is happening to you, and you know that you haven't cheated, then don't panic. Just keep on keeping on, and by next week (hopefully!) you will be rewarded with a loss.

The losses from that point are likely to be in the region of 1-2lbs a week (may be more if you have a lot to lose), but that will all be fat. And although I know it doesn't sound a lot, just visualise it. 2lbs is 4 packs of lard, which is a lot of fat!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure you're keeping an eye on how many carbs you're eating, and don't get carried away with the nuts and fruit or the alcohol.

Here's to a good week!

Depends how much of a carby twat you are as I understand it...

ariadnestar · 03/10/2013 20:55

delurks momentarily ... Hi all. Loving my third bootcamp and recorded my lowest weight yet this morning! There seems to be a problem with the spreadsheet though - the rows are all hidden and I can't unhide them (unless I'm just being dim - most likely!) Is there anyone who's able to fix it? slinks off to lurkerville to try on some previously too tight clothes

JustasmallGless · 03/10/2013 21:20

Willie isn't around at the mo so will have to wait for her to come back and wave her magic wand to fix it I'm afraid.

I can eat carbs for a day and switch back straight away if I stay off the booze without doing too much damage. But I have been doing this 18 months and have tested my limits with what my body can tolerate.
If I go off piste I don't beat myself up although I have to say the " treat " of having cake really doesn't appeal any more and is very easy to resist.

ariadnestar · 03/10/2013 21:41

Thanks Just - I managed to sort it I think, thanks to a bit of googling :-)

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 04/10/2013 07:02

Having sts (which my phone autocorrects to dtd, need to put mumsnet down) this week, I appear to have had a bit of a clear out. DH was creasing up at the idea that that was the whoosh which is clearly a euphemism for something.

googoogoggles · 04/10/2013 07:30

Grin at ohfuck
ariadnestar come back and post how much you've lost over 3 bootcamps - and any tips/ meal ideas - cd do with a bit of encouragement this morning! Sneaked a look at scales. Still sts..feel lighter but not much energy yesterday and today. Know I didn't drink enough water again - hv an irritable bladder so don't like drinking loads when I'm out and about as i hate always worrying about finding a loo!

bigkidsdidit · 04/10/2013 08:08

I'm half a kilo lighter this morning which has put me into the 70s for the first time since I was about 4 months pregnant :) that's 9lb lost so far for me. Hurray!

googoogoggles · 04/10/2013 08:14

Welll done bigkidsdidit - That's great!

WillieWaggledagger · 04/10/2013 11:44

hello!

Biggest Loser of the Week: stinkerfromhove
Biggest Overall Loser: Roobot
Biggest %age Loser Overall: vicky08

bloody well done!

captainmummy · 04/10/2013 13:46

Stinkerfromhove - how fab! It was only early sept you were asking why you hadn;t lost any weight - looks like it has started to whoosh!

Well done everyone.

holmessweetholmes · 04/10/2013 15:23

Aha - I seem to have started losing weight again! I still don't know what to do about the fact that I'm now weighing on my new, accurate scales, so my first 2 weigh-ins were wrong...

BIWIZ · 04/10/2013 17:52

Brilliant, stinkerfromhove! What do you think happened that suddenly got things going for you?

Fantastic, Roobot and vicky08

And very glad to hear that, holmes!

Flowers for you all

BIWIZ · 04/10/2013 17:53

Oh, and here are some interesting low carb casserole recipes for you to have a look at

They are American, but might be inspiring!

JustasmallGless · 04/10/2013 17:55

I'm trying a chicken and choriZo stew tonight so if it's any good I will post on recipe thread. I need to update the low carb recipe pages too.

It's been a long week and there will be wine or vodka

I'm celebrating HOLMES staying with us and a whoosh!

StuntNun · 04/10/2013 19:14

After DH's Baileys failure on his last business trip he has redeemed himself by coming home from Spain with a 2008 Rioja Reserve and cured Iberian pork shoulder. Nom!

ariadnestar · 04/10/2013 19:20

Ah, all right then googoo :) I've lost about 26lbs now I think - the only time I've been lighter as an adult was when I did lighter life, but as you can guess it all went back on again! I can't believe how easy it is to stick to this WOE as a lifestyle, and I never feel deprived - I know if I go off plan I can pull it back again.

I do have some favourite foods that help keep me on track, most of which I've found out about from these threads. I love making crisps/crackers from Edam slices with salt/pepper and sesame seeds (cut each slice into 4 and cook at about 220 degrees for 8 minutes until crisp on greaseproof paper/baking parchment). I make about 20 at the start of the week and have 4 of them as a mid morning snack - they're just the crunch you need! I think it was blackaffronted who posted this version originally.

I also like experimenting with mash - this week's has been celeriac, swede and cauliflower, all mashed up (well, blended with a stick blender) with butter and buttery fried leeks - it goes with everything (especially good with Indian curry bizarrely!).

I also swear by the Big Ass Salad for lunch - I've got a funky bowl which has compartments for interesting bits and a wee lidded pot for the dressing - this week has been a combination of bacon, beef, ham, salami, various cheeses and boiled egg. Everyone at work is dead jealous of my salads ;)

I also like to do fajitas or chilli in lettuce boats instead of tacos/tortillas (no beans, obviously) and I do a lasagne/moussaka hybrid thing, where I layer bolognese sauce with butter-fried aubergine slices and the brilliant cheese sauce I got from this thread (soft cheese and cream microwaved together gently). Parmesan on the top then stick in the oven until bubbly - very oily but really satisfying and delicious.

Whoops, this turned into a bit of an essay! I should have stayed lurking ;)

BIWIZ · 04/10/2013 19:57

Oh no! No lurking any more, after that, ariadne!

Twit · 04/10/2013 23:27

Hi all. Not so good yesterday. My totm arrived and I ended up in bed early with a hot water bottle my stomach hurt so much. DH brought me paracetamol with a cup of tea and some dairy milk. I had a bit.i am never getting into my red skinnies again am I? Sad
I know what I need to do but am finding it really hard this time. It's not even carb flu or anything, I'm just so buggering tired I drag myself around snapping at everyone. I'm not hungry, which is a blessing as it means I'm not eating a lot (which saves £).
Ah wel tomorrow is another day etc. hope you all ave a good weekend Smile

LilyAmaryllis · 04/10/2013 23:31

Wow that all sounds fantastic Ariadne!

I had a moment today of thinking "I'm not a fat mum any more... I'm at most a medium-sized mum or a mum-who's-weight-you-wouldn't-even-notice". Possibly because I went with two slim friends to a Macmillian coffee morning. Didn't feel out of place next to the slim friends. Also managed to politely decline the cake while drinking tea and buying raffle tickets.

B - scrambled egg and fried-up veg leftovers
L - stilton & broccoli soup and tuna mayo salad
D - Mash-up of fried aubergine, tomato and feta; salad and tuna mayo (otherwise known as everything left in the fridge - can you tell Friday is leftovers day in our house?)

LCHammer · 05/10/2013 06:44

Wow, some nice successes on this thread. Well done.

googoogoggles · 05/10/2013 07:32

Thanks aridnestar!!!!! really inspiring and helpful post, so glad you de-lurked again. Am def going to try the layered moussaka this eve and experiment a bit more with mash too - like adding swede to cauli. ( My last cauli cottage pie topping was a bit watery!)

PMMummy · 05/10/2013 08:03

Forgive my absence all, I lost the plot somewhere around my second soaking of the day on Thursday. You are all doing so well and inspiring me to get back on.
Today shall be a good day, pinky promise Grin strict boot camp for me, light just doesn't seem to work, too much room for slipping !

AuntieMaggie · 05/10/2013 09:45

Wow I must revisit the recipe thread for those cracker things. Thanks Ariadne for sharing your ideas - I may have to steal them. Thanks BIWI will look at the casseroles.

The biggest challenges for me on this woe is finding food when I'm out and about with work and because I'm not hungry deciding what to eat as I don't fancy anything and certain foods I've gone off (which causes some rows with poor DP who does most of the cooking and is at a loss about what to cook). I do boot camp light in that I eat nuts and berries but as a rule I don't drink alcohol unless on a night out. I have the occasional potato or chip but I try not to beat myself up about it because a) I've cut out carby processed crap so am healthier regardless of whether I'm losing weight or not and I don't actually want the crap and when I do I am satisfied by a very small taste of it and b) my insulin resistance is more stable. (Of course I do beat myself up occasionally cos I'd like to lose weight...)

holmessweetholmes · 05/10/2013 10:43

Aww - thanks! I'm glad I've stayed too Smile. Loving the sound of those edam crackers. And a very inspiring post from Ariadne.

holmessweetholmes · 05/10/2013 20:25

Went clothes shopping today. Bought everything in a size 12 - which I haven't been since the 1990's!
