Week 3 (or 2!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

So this is our second full week - some of you will be a few days ahead, so coming up to your week 3 (this is very confusing!)

I'm really impressed about the lack of wine so far Grin

We've had a couple of very quiet weeks so far, after some fairly hectic socialising at the end of last year. It does make it easier to stay on track, both food-wise as well as booze.

If you started on 2 or 3 January, when you get to the end of this week, i.e. 16 or 17, you can make a decision about moving on to Bootcamp Light if you wish - i.e. you can reintroduce fruit, nuts/seeds and chocolate. All in moderation, obviously!

And if you check out the spreadsheet you'll see that there are carb counts there for fruit and nuts/seeds, to help you make your choices.

Good luck Flowers

With left over eggs I'd just chuck them in a salad

ReconstructionSite · 18/01/2025 12:08

I can get a bit egged out, so make sure I sometimes have yogurt instead, and I often only have one egg and make sure there is plenty else on the plate, eg. avocado, kimchi, mushrooms. I am also thankfully getting to the place in this bootcamp where I don't feel massively like I need breakfast every single day. So having 2-3 days where I don't end up eating until midday means I get a bit of an egg break.

NoCarbsForMe · 18/01/2025 12:11

I can very happily skip breakfast most mornings.. but if I don't have some protein then I will can get a massive energy slump mid afternoon and crave sugar/ carbs.

So best to get something down first thing. Keeps my blood sugars more balanced and I'm less likely to snack later.

prettybird · 18/01/2025 12:12

@KittenPause - yes jerky is similar to biltong. Although some of the spices might be different: biltong tends to use coriander and I'm not sure about beef jerky.

Egg curry? Grin

I think I'd cry if someone presented me with egg curry 😂

KittenPause · 18/01/2025 12:53

All this talk of eggs so I'm going to make a spinach heavy omelette using 2 eggs, cream and cheese with nutmeg.

KittenPause · 18/01/2025 12:54

Ooo and a couple of mushrooms

CleanQueen123 · 18/01/2025 12:55

NoCarbsForMe · 18/01/2025 12:03

@CleanQueen123 I also have coffee with double cream and collagen powder every morning.

Where do you get your collagen powder from? I had capsules but it was six a day and I'm not sure I saw a difference.

I'm at that point now so had eggs ready for lunches but I think I'll take a break for a week and see how I feel.

A decent egg curry is lovely @CleanQueen123!

Something my mum used to make - a real 1960s Good Housekeeping special! - was eggs mornay. Basically hard-boiled eggs in a cheese sauce, flashed under the grill to brown the cheese.

Lovely!

I make something similar every now and then - either as a breakfast if I'm hungry, or a lunch.

2 HB eggs, halved. Cover each egg with a spoonful of FFGY (or cream/cottage cheese if you like/prefer), season with black pepper and sprinkle with grated mature cheddar. Grill till the cheese is nice and brown.

Equally, I do a version of eggs mornay for DH and I, but using a cheese sauce made with cream (rather than a roux-based sauce).

Oh dear my spinach omelette just turned into sort of spinach and scrambled egg mix but was super tasty and I'll be making it again. It was too much spinach for an omelette but otherwise exactly the flavour I was after

That does sound delicious. When I'm back on eggs I'll give it a go!

Hello all.
I've had a busy week, and not been keeping up with the thread (just binged it now)
But I have been strict on eating.
No exercise at all this week because I haven't been able to get to classes, but scales are plodding in the right direction, and I'm daring to look forward to weigh day tomorrow. I'm hovering just above a (very bbig) number, so I'm hopeful of being on or just below it tomorrow 🤞🏻
Fancied a drink last night, but the craving wasn't nearly as bad as last Friday, so that was good.

@ReconstructionSite when I see a recipe I fancy, I copy it and WhatsApp it to DH, so when we meal plan, there's a loads of recipes just there (and then instructions for when we cook).
Speaking of recipes, we had the cheeseburger pie you guys have been raving about. I really didn't like it very much, which I was gutted about.

@Baystard @Goodiewhemper I'm hoping to keep going in February as well.
May I tag along with you?

NoCarbsForMe · 18/01/2025 12:01

GOD yes!

The sensible advice I was given on the last boot camp was to eat leftovers from the day before and stop thinking that i need to eat "breakfast" foods.

Other things I have are:

FFGY w berries (when they're allowed), vanilla essence, or cocoa.

Veggie sausages

Some combination of:
Avocado
Cheese
Olives
Pickles

@nocarbsforme have you really found a low carb veggie sausage?!

Eggs mornay is a brilliant idea and like you @biwi I love an egg curry. I don't tend to eat bf on BC, just some leftovers when I'm hungry. I've definitely had egg burnout on previous BCs so I am quite careful in how many I eat

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/01/2025 14:51

I never boil eggs in advance having learned my lesson and looked at too many sad boiled eggs in the fridge.

Eggs mornay is great, so is devilled eggs, egg curry, and salad niçoise for using them. And so is the dog.

Almahart · 18/01/2025 14:52

Yeah, hard boiled eggs do NOT feature in my BC anymore.

BIWI · 18/01/2025 14:53

@RockyRogue1001 we always keep the last chat thread of every Bootcamp going, when Bootcamp is finished, so there should always be someone around to help keep you on the straight and narrow!

Good luck for tomorrow Flowers

@RockyRogue1001 I’m keeping going into February as well .

CleanQueen123 · 18/01/2025 15:53

@RockyRogue1001 I'll definitely be carrying on with the straight and narrow chat! I've got to break the frustrating half stone on and off cycle somehow.

RockyRogue1001 · 18/01/2025 16:03

That's exactly me @CleanQueen123
I lose weight on BC and then put it straight back on again after bc is over (or earlier I fall off the wagon 😞)
I really want to break that cycle and do 2 good months.
Possibly 3 😥😬

SemmaLina · 18/01/2025 16:18

With boiled eggs , I like coronation eggs ( like chicken ) salad , probably not for breakfast though …but I’m not keen on breakfast anyway

Back from lunch out , which was delicious and not that far off plan , had pear and Pearl las salad to start , then confit duck leg ( the waiter did try and get me to order potatoes as a side , but oh no , not me ) with kale ( good ) and lentils ( not so good )
no dessert ( thye didn’t have creme brûlée or lemon tart on the menu which would have made it very difficult )
we shared a bottle of wine , lots of water , tons of chat

@Almahart re: veggie sausages... they are probably a bit illegal, but then I don't eat meat, I don't eat them every day and the cumberland ones are 5.5g per 100g / with 19g protein - so seems worth it for the protein to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

(That's 5.5g carbs per 100g)

BIWI · 18/01/2025 17:13

@SemmaLina in the great scheme of things, lentils are fine! Sounds like you had a lovely lunch.

LOL at illegal sausages @NoCarbsForMe Grin. (And 5.5g per 100g seems OK to me - that would be around 2 sausages, yes?)
