Week 3 (or 2!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 13/01/2025 08:10

Morning all

So this is our second full week - some of you will be a few days ahead, so coming up to your week 3 (this is very confusing!)

I'm really impressed about the lack of wine so far Grin

We've had a couple of very quiet weeks so far, after some fairly hectic socialising at the end of last year. It does make it easier to stay on track, both food-wise as well as booze.

If you started on 2 or 3 January, when you get to the end of this week, i.e. 16 or 17, you can make a decision about moving on to Bootcamp Light if you wish - i.e. you can reintroduce fruit, nuts/seeds and chocolate. All in moderation, obviously!

And if you check out the spreadsheet you'll see that there are carb counts there for fruit and nuts/seeds, to help you make your choices.

Good luck Flowers

Dry January 2025 Bootcamp

Would miso soup be acceptable? Not sure I can face chugging a pint of salty water!

prettybird · 16/01/2025 22:31

I don't know about miso soup but the wee shake of Lo:Salt plus the squoosh of lemon juice is barely noticeable.

Others can recommend the electrolyte tablets that they use - you might need to check them for artificial sweeteners.

Make sure to season your food well. With the amount of water you should be drinking, you really do need the salt Smile

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/01/2025 03:00

I recommended an electrolyte on the last thread. Buggered if I can remember the name now.

AlbertCamusflage · 17/01/2025 07:30

I always use the brand of electrolytes called SIS Hydro.

The carbs are listed as 0.8 per tablet. Not sure how that compares with other brrands, but the advantage of this one is that it is in Tesco.

I'm guessing/hoping that if you are generally using just a couple a day at most the carbs won't be a problem?

EDIT: They do have sweetener too. I hadn't thought to check that. Oh bum. Since they taste predominantly salty though I don't think they sabotage the reeducation of my palette away from sweetness. And the sweetener content in one tablet must be small

BIWI · 17/01/2025 08:00

@AlbertCamusflage I think the need for electrolytes is more important than worrying about the sweeteners.

@BusyFrizzyLizzie the ones I use(d) are Zero by High5. I think you can buy them in Boots now, but you can also buy online.

I am usually a very heavy salt user, so this is kind of surprising. But also very much not a problem for me to add more salt to my food!

This morning I tried @prettybird 's recommendation, and it was actually rather nice. Oddly salty and sour. Will try a day of that before turning to tablets. Thanks all!

KittenPause · 17/01/2025 10:21

My brain completely sort of short circuited last night. I was craving everything and anything not allowed. I did succumb to something in the end I shouldn't have. Hey ho. ConfusedShockBlush

Then I went a made a green salad with some feta and baby tomatoes and I was fine after that

This morning I was back to my Christmas Eve weight of 12st 2.75lb Smile

Next target: get below 12st Grin

Almahart · 17/01/2025 10:58

Random NSV. I actually feel lighter. Like my movements are less heavy and it feels really nice

LCagain · 17/01/2025 13:26

Good to hear all the updates! Am really enjoying having the LC bread again after a couple of weeks without nuts

KittenPause · 17/01/2025 13:35

So only 150g of FFGY for breakfast

Lunch chicken breast mixed with mayo with mushrooms, red pepper, cauliflower, broccoli and red pepper.

TheOnlyMrsW · 17/01/2025 13:37

Difficult couple of days but managed to stick to LC, office back to back definitely didn't help and have a mountain of things to get done today as we're away tomorrow for the weekend..........
Also got some blood test results back and I'm low on vitamin B12, back to being anaemic, have high cholesterol and low kidney function which I definitely wasn't expecting. Telephone appointment with the dr in a couple of weeks to discuss but getting lower on the scales will definitely help.
Trying to have more water today as I struggle on office days (long-ish commute and don't want to be caught out on the way home!). Have zero inspiration for dinner this evening so going to browse the recipe threads and then go to do the good shop, along with some errands in town

ReconstructionSite · 17/01/2025 14:13

I am very annoyed at myself as I bookmarked some recipe posts with lovely recipes, but didn't know these didn't appear in some magic list so now can't find them anyway 😫 Not sure how you qre supposed to locate bookmarked posts...?

Anyway, if anyone can tell me why I've ordered dill and white cabbage in my online food shop I'd be very grateful 😂

On the NSV front, I've noticed in the last couple of days that my legs are looking slimmer. I am doing a lot of physio exercises at the moment for a bust knee, so that will be a factor as I squat squat squat for dear life, but generally there is a little less wobbliness going on as well.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/01/2025 14:20

Key Nutrients Hydration Pills. Zero carbs. Not the cheapest, but gym bunny, health-obsessed DH swears by them.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/01/2025 14:27

I mentioned dill @ReconstructionSite but it wasn't a recipe.

Two things I do with it...

Whole (small) salmon. Stuff with lemon, dill, lime. Bung in a bag made of folded tin foil. Add butter and white wine. Bake. Take out and pour out the juices, boil them to reduce. Switch off the gas and whisk in butter. Eat.

Next day, leftover salmon. Mix with cucumber, dill, mayonnaise (lots of salt) and eat with a spoon over the sink Grin

But was it 10% fat?!

Also, chicken thigh would be a better choice than chicken breast as it's higher in fat. Remember, this is a low carb, high fat WOE.

KittenPause · 17/01/2025 15:23

@BIWI it was 5% but I'll see if a higher fat content is back in stock

I do prefer chicken thighs and legs so will add thighs to shop again

I think I was buying more breast because the DC prefer it for when they cook their meals

I'll buy both

Well it wasn't that, sadly for me, as it sounds amazing so taking a screenshot now!

I always have to do, this DCs are same, apparently chicken thighs are slimy even when cut up really small in a curry

KittenPause · 17/01/2025 16:01

@RatatatCat yes and it's a battle I can't be doing with

Iheartmysmart · 17/01/2025 16:09

I similarly have a list of groceries and absolutely no idea what I’ve done with the recipes they relate to! One day I will be an organised person.

Know what you mean @Almahart and I’m so much more energetic. Don’t have the usual flagging feeling that happens on a Friday. Even the ironing has been done!

B - yogurt with cream and a sprinkle of freeze dried strawberries
L - bacon and eggs
D - lamb cooked with tomatoes, halloumi and spring onions together with a green salad

prettybird · 17/01/2025 16:47

The talk about recipes reminds me that I've just bought two out of the three things I needed for a recipe I saw (and saved Wink) on FB: chicken breasts stuffed with feta, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. Already have a pack of open feta which was what attracted me to the recipe and have bought the chicken breasts and the spinach but forgot the sun-dried tomatoes Hmm

Jengachamp · 17/01/2025 17:10

I'm still doing good, have even managed a work conference and stuck to keto, didnt have desert!
I'm still doing no breakfast, just lunch and dinner. Cream in coffee. We did 4 days of a keto food delivery plan which was nice. One of those half price boxes but too expensive to keep up with. I am still getting cravings. I have a small spoon of clotted cream with unsweetened peanut butter. I'm missing hot chocolate so Ive ordered one of these keto mushroom mix things, hopefully its not disgusting.
I'm still losing slowly, but I do feel lighter and I feel like my clothes feel a bit bigger. No alcohol...

prettybird · 17/01/2025 18:01

@ReconstructionSite - you can only bookmark once in a thread, so that's maybe why you can't those recipes again. I tend to use the bookmark to mark where I've got to when reading a thread.
