Week 3 (or 2!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 13/01/2025 08:10

Morning all

So this is our second full week - some of you will be a few days ahead, so coming up to your week 3 (this is very confusing!)

I'm really impressed about the lack of wine so far Grin

We've had a couple of very quiet weeks so far, after some fairly hectic socialising at the end of last year. It does make it easier to stay on track, both food-wise as well as booze.

If you started on 2 or 3 January, when you get to the end of this week, i.e. 16 or 17, you can make a decision about moving on to Bootcamp Light if you wish - i.e. you can reintroduce fruit, nuts/seeds and chocolate. All in moderation, obviously!

And if you check out the spreadsheet you'll see that there are carb counts there for fruit and nuts/seeds, to help you make your choices.

Good luck Flowers

Dry January 2025 Bootcamp

@Iheartmysmart 🤞

AlbertCamusflage · 13/01/2025 16:28

Could you all put your shrinked-off boobage into a doggy bag for me, please?
My already tiny breasts are looking a touch deflated atm.

One of the reasons I need to lose weight is so that my tummy doesn't stick out further than my nipples Grin. Tummy is shrinking reasonably successfully but breasts are sadly joining in.

As of today, I haven't lost any weight this week, although I do feel slimmer. I'm finding it hard not to view the unmoving scales as a demoralising defeat, and I know I will have to work hard not to sabotage myself this evening.

I've already had a consolation snack of greek yoghurt with cream just now, despite a good lunch of shakshuka. That is just about ok, I guess, so long as I don't keep on snacking.

prettybird · 13/01/2025 17:08

It's always worth taking various measurements (eg waist, boobs, underboobs/ribcage which has the added benefit of giving you your cup size if you measured your boobs while hinged over at the waist Wink, hips, upper thigh, upper arm). That way, when/if the scales don't move, you have another metric to look at Smile

The waist is a useful one as this WoE is good at reducing visceral fat, so there's usually quite a quick positive impact on your waist measurement Grin

I'm not blessed in the boob department either

RockyRogue1001 · 13/01/2025 17:53

@prettybird
I do arm, boobs, waist, tummy, hips, bum, thigh

CleanQueen123 · 13/01/2025 18:17

Disappointing week for me this week because I've gained but KOKO as they say!

ColouringPencils · 13/01/2025 18:56

I will keep the boobs and lose the tummy, thanks! My bum is also a bit flat (compared to tummy 😫) so I need to hang on to that too.

The aubergine dish sounds lovely. What did you eat it with?

NewYearOldCold · 13/01/2025 18:57

Just finished a lovely dinner - the second half of a pack of this chicken dish from Tesco. The ingredients aren't 100% BC friendly but it's only 1g of carbs per half a packet.

www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/317402967?srsltid=AfmBOorqNzIN1ut6IvK2XDT1bcZbfgkdxgLSGfwVSOLNM10-69c36hcr

I reheated it with extra cream and served with broccoli & cauli.

Tesco shop arrives tomorrow!

I'm down from a post NY peak of 13 stone 6 to 12 stone 10 today. I was 13 stone 1lb on Xmas Eve so really it's only 5lb off as a lot of that was water (I was LC before Christmas).

My NSV dress fits, but the arms are tight. Managed 5 gym classes last week - aiming to improve fitness for a ski holiday as well as lose weight. Did two today so aiming for 6 classes this week! Spin and weights.

Leaving20 · 13/01/2025 19:33

STS here too. Was down a little during the week but back up. Maybe slightly <ahem> bunged up...😂

legallyblond · 13/01/2025 20:00

Hard day here as I’m feeling very under the weather. I fell off the wagon as had two slices of rye bread (the very seedy, dark German kind… that comes in thin slices) as I was battling a massive migraine and done how craved it. But back on that wagon by this evening with a potato free moussaka, which is also the children’s favourite food. We just have it with shredded iceberg. It’s yummy.

Down 2 lbs to 12st exactly. My height means 2lbs is entirely unnoticeable do it’s a long hard road to lose enough to actually see or measure on my waist (also my biggest issue… tummy…).

Well done to everyone so far.. do Gard when scales don’t budge!

I can’t remember who said it, but I also get heartburn if I go very very carb heavy…

RatatatCat · 13/01/2025 21:32

Down 4lb this week - which I'm ecstatic about

Still struggling in the evenings but I've managed to stick to plan

B. Coconut cream, ginger and spinach smoothie
L. Smoked salmon, avo and cream cheese
D. Bacon, eggs and spinach

Baystard · 13/01/2025 21:36

I have apparently put on 0.2kg this week but I think it's water and will come off soon, and my clothes are looser.

Had some berries and cream this evening but otherwise stuck with it.

DrBlackbird · 13/01/2025 22:01

Somehow I’ve lost track of days and these threads. I’m not in the spreadsheet but will follow the threads for recipe ideas.

SemmaLina · 13/01/2025 22:17

I didn’t weigh this morning , I woke early , so thirsty , and I drank 2 big glasses of water ( then went into the spare room with a hot water bottle , a coffee and my iPad ) and thought I’d leave the scales for tomorrow after all that liquid

Had a good day , walked round the block and did a Pilates class this evening
Had home made soup for lunch and my nice pork and aubergine dish , so yummy today I had seconds , had salad leaves on the side with some olive oil and posh salt

NSV here , the Pilates instructor complimented me on my weight loss ( I was taken a bank as I’ve not really lost much , maybe 7 lb since the autumn ,) I think my legs must be slimmer , just need my tummy to lose it’s pot now
No pressure , but we head off on holiday in 4 weeks !

BusyFrizzyLizzie · 14/01/2025 06:35

Yesterday went largely according to plan. Very much enjoyed my mushroom stroganoff. Bought a pack of mixed woodland mushrooms which added interesting textural variety.

Today's plan is:

B: FFGY w cream
L: tuna mayo salad
D: tandoori salmon, palak paneer and roasted spiced cauliflower

Have bought myself a couple of bottles of san Pellegrino as a dinner time treat. Hopefully that will keep me on the straight and narrow!

ofcourseyes · 14/01/2025 08:55

2.2lbs down! This is the most I've lost in a week for over a year, so pleased.

@BIWI I've struggled with three meals a day but trying with the yogurt first thing, not a favourite by any means. I think maybe I need more fat? This way of eating is very different for me and I'm learning constantly.

Thank you for helping to motivate me and keep me focused, if I can continue at around 2lbs a week I'll be on track for target by July with every chance to stay there.

KittenPause · 14/01/2025 09:52

That's great @ofcourseyes

So for breakfast I had chicken that had been marinated in the left over sauce from my Aubergine bake and I added mushrooms courgette and broccoli and baked in the air fryer

I've got a shop coming later with the FFGY I should have been eating

BIWI · 14/01/2025 09:59

@ofcourseyes great going!

If you're struggling, after two weeks you don't need to have breakfast if you don't wish to.

Why don't you post your meals over the last few days, and let me see if I can help re fat.?

I love hearing about everyone's losses, it's so uplifting! Very boring day yesterday, lots of work and stuck to my meal plan but a bit meh.........One thing that's never been a factor in my bc adventures is the extra energy (v jealous!) but will keep going nonetheless
Planning FFGY for breakfast, green soup for lunch and then spicy chicken casserole for dinner with the remains of the kale, chorizo, spicy chicken chunks and chopped tomatoes. DH will have crusty bread to dunk

prettybird · 14/01/2025 10:12

@ofcourseyes - the other thing about breakfast (apart from, after the first two weeks, if you're not hungry, you don't need to have it Wink) is that you don't need to have "traditional" breakfast stuff. Left over food from last night, buttery veg (I often do extra for this purpose), cheese, half an avocado....

ofcourseyes · 14/01/2025 10:36

@BIWI
Friday
FFGY
Tuna salad with mayo
chicken curry (probably not enough fat in this short on veg)

Saturday
FFGY
Duck Salad

Sunday
FFGY
Cod fillet with salad, olive oil dressing

Monday
FFGY
Tuna salad with mayo
Roast Chicken with skin, kale, green beans, asparagus.

As I mentioned, this way of eating is different for me, spent years restricting calories or fasting, used to work but since peri nothing seemed to.

Baystard · 14/01/2025 10:38

Hurrah, a bit of movement on the scales this morning, though not enough to be a whoosh.

Planning tomato soup for lunch, with lots of EVOO plus oil from the sundried tomato jar. It's probably not strict BC because there's onion and lots of fresh tomatoes but hopefully OK. Will add cream serve with lots of parmesan.

BIWI · 14/01/2025 10:42

@ofcourseyes It looks to me as if the choices of protein are lean ones (apart from the duck - but how much duck was there in your salad?

And why only 2 meals at the weekend?!

You need to be adding fat/cooking with fat - but it's difficult to tell from what you've written. For example, cod fillet is very lean - so how did you cook it?

(And don't worry, we all appreciate how difficult it is to move away from the mindset that 'fat = bad'!)

OP posts:
ofcourseyes · 14/01/2025 10:50

@BIWI
So busy on a weekend I often used to only eat once.
Lots of duck, cooked in duck fat.
Cod was oven baked, didn't even occur to me to cook in butter
I do mostly eat lean, as I say, years of eating that way takes a while to change.

I will look at my fat and protein choices, but as I don't eat cheese eggs are a go to that I can easily get sick of.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/01/2025 14:50

@ofcourseyes it's really hard to change your thinking. Once you do though... our butter budget has skyrocketed! You get used to small, incredibly delicious meals with lots of fat. Which makes you feel full up and happy. They're small because you don't feel like eating more (because of the fat) not because you're sadly counting.

For example yesterday I came in from my run hungry, made a big bowl of salmon, cucumber, dill and lots of mayonnaise. LOTS. Ate about half, felt full. If I'd had that with toast, I might have eaten the lot. If I'd made it without mayonnaise, I'd have felt sad. The fat without carbs is just satisfying.
