BIWI · 06/03/2023 07:52

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for its final outing

I hope that this has been a good Bootcamp for you all - it's been fairly quiet and peaceful this time around! Never sure if that's a good thing or not, but at least we haven't had any public flouncing!

I know that not everyone joined us in week one, and @AlmaHart has only just started (!) but don't worry - we'll keep this thread going for general chat and ongoing support.

There are also a couple of extra columns on the spreadsheet too.

Thank you for everyone who has posted and supported - and special thanks to @Finallyhere for womanning the spreadsheet

Hoping that tell lung you will encourage me to get up and at 'em.

Almahart · 06/03/2023 07:59

Thanks @BIWI !

3.5 pounds down. Will definitely be posting here for accountability and company.

Also, for recipe inspiration, I'm already a bit tired of celeriac!

FinallyHere · 06/03/2023 08:04

Not great for my walk but posting here reminders me to check my diary and lo and behold grocery delivery due between 08;00 - 09:00

Best excuse ever for no walk. Maybe I'll go at lunchtime instead

Rollerbird · 06/03/2023 08:25

@FinallyHere there's a #ref in one of my squares on the spreadsheet.
Could you please take a look? 😉

SpottyBumPony · 06/03/2023 08:27

Thanks @BIWI and @FinallyHere . STS this week but I can see where I was a bit carby or had creamy drinks too frequently

Onwards and upwards (or downward in the case of our waistlines)

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 06/03/2023 08:36

Morning @BIWI and all 🌻🌻🌻

Starting weight: 75 kg (165)

Finishing weight: 71.7 (158)

Long term goal is to end up at 64 kg. Even happier if I can get down to 60.

Thanks as always for another bootcamp! 💐

prettybird · 06/03/2023 08:40

Made the low carb cantucci to have with lemon posset (which I've made before) yesterday: they were a great success Smile.

I added lemon zest (I zested the lemons before squeezing them) and omitted the fennel seeds. Next time I might add orange zest too (emulating the lovely Lidl cantucci).

Made a double quantity of the lemon posset (which I made on Saturday night) as the previous time the quantity was very disappointing. Doubled up it was fine Grin

FinallyHere · 06/03/2023 08:42

Good catch, thank you @Rollerbird

I've done a bit of a tidy, swept up generally and blown some of the dust out of the corners of the spreadsheet

All looking a bit more shipshape now, thank you for the tip off.

Rollerbird · 06/03/2023 08:44

Thank you @FinallyHere and @biwi of course
1.8 lost this bootcamp
It's my first one and I'm disappointed but will koko.

Baystard · 06/03/2023 08:45

Morning everyone. I'm also contemplating exercise rather than doing it.

I've lost 7lb this BC and I'm very happy about that. My goal for now is to maintain at my current weight until the next BC. Planning to stick strictly to BC 3-4 days a week and not go too wild on the other days.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 06/03/2023 08:52

Morning everyone, after being pretty on plan during our half term break, last week I completely lost the plot for some reason. I'm so cross with myself but am posting here for accountability while I drag my sorry arse back on the wagon.

No excuses but I am really struggling at work at the minute. We're going through a restructure at the moment and, while I am not at risk of redundancy (this time - we do love a good restructure!) there is lots of uncertainty around my role. I'm also due on this week, so there's also that and have a serious case of the post holiday blues after my week off.

Anyway, this is normally the point I'd chuck the towel in, but I m not letting that happen this time. I'm not weighing just yet but will do so in a few days.

B: Greek yogurt and cream
L: omelette
D: cheesy chicken rissoles, salad

BIWI · 06/03/2023 08:53

@Rollerbird list out for me what you've been eating/drinking over the last few days, and let me see if there's anything I can help you with

Another 2lbs this week which takes me to 15lbs overall since the beginning of this BC.

I'm absolutely delighted! This is my first BC and an introduction to a WOE that seems to work for me. My husband has lost 21lbs and is also very pleased.
We've had a few falls of wagons - but have got back on each time and carried on which doesn't usually happen.

So a massive thank you to @BIWI and to everyone who posts ideas and encouragement...

BIWI · 06/03/2023 09:02

That's great going @BrendaLee - and for your DH too.

I'm due a weigh in this week, planning Wednesday at the gym in work: the only reason I ever go to the gym there, even though they recognise me to say hello and are always very friendly trying to sucker me in 😀

Not really looking forward to it, being confronted by an absolute number is never my favourite thing. #rebellion.

It's been fun knowing that so long as I eat to my appetite, there is no need to restrict calories. That had meant that I have often chosen eg to eat meat rather than fish even though I know there are many fewer calories in the fish.

Any guidance or rule of thumb to suggest at what point it might be worth looking at calories, too?

My current target is the mid point of my BMI chart , which is conveniently the rule that I remember from childhood: height in meters minus one meter is the max weight in kgs. Target weight is max minus ten percent, to allow space for celebrations etc.

Im definitely trying to manage my own expectations incase there has been no downward movement on the scales this month. Im esp thinking of my two coffee with creme habit that has crept in whereas before I used to tell myself that I could have a second coffee if I wanted but without the creme. Sigh.

BIWI · 06/03/2023 09:08

@FinallyHere try to re-frame the way you think about it - instead of thinking about calories, why not focus on smaller portions?

I remember from my days of reading Slimming magazine that they made the point that it takes 15 minutes for your brain to catch up with what you're eating, to tell you that you're full. (I have no idea if that's true, but it's always stuck in my head!)

So it would be very easy to fill your plate with large portion and eat too much.

Something to try would be to start with a small portion - if you're still hungry 15 minutes after you've finished, then eat some more. Or reduce what you're putting on your plate altogether. As an example, if I cook bacon and eggs, it's automatic to fry 2 eggs and 2 rashers of bacon. But just one of each is perfectly fine! (As we have the benefit of appetite suppression from low carbing to help here).

Final weigh in of 162.4 meaning a total of 14lbs off this bootcamp which I am thrilled about. Especially as there was a lot of cheese and vin chaud consumed while skiing last week. Thank you so much @BIWI for running this (and talking me down from my mid-camp wobble) and @FinallyHere for womaning the spreadsheet. Can't wait for the next bootcamp and the next 14lbs.

Rayna37 · 06/03/2023 09:38

Thanks all for a great start to the year, this has been a really good bootcamp for me, if perhaps a tale of two halves. 5 lbs off.

I started the year with the highest weigh in I can remember (excluding baby weight) of 134.6 which was a wake-up call solidifying what I knew, which was clothes weren't fitting, I looked bigger even in my face, and what used to be the weight I might end a big weekend/holiday was just where I was mid week now. (2022 was a bit weird for me). I had a great first week to the year following BC principles but still finishing off some of the Christmas cake and having the odd pudding, to lose the worst of it: the "water weight" 4lb whoosh!

1st Jan - 134.6lbs (BMI 23.8, short with a small frame!)
10th Jan (I was away for the start on 9th!) - 130.4lbs
4th Feb 123lbs (lowest day, BMI 21.8)

...and then I got a little less strict, had more socialising to contend with, and have bobbed up and down between 123.8 and 126.2ish ever since! I want this mid point to be about 4 lbs lower.

I'm definitely going to KOKO, my goal is 119lbs (8 1/2 stone) which would be a BMI of 21. Happy at 8 and 3/4. I've benefited this time from drinking less (I had my first beer of the year yesterday, and I love real ale, and had an increasing wine habit before Christmas!), keeping up with the water, mostly switching to black coffee, and I've done really well for me at avoiding bread/toast, and cake. I think how I've eaten this last month will actually need to be my maintenance - BC as much as possible to allow wiggle room. Need to keep that in mind! I'm a moderator not an abstainer and actually tolerate carbs quite well; almost sadly, I actually don't feel any worse when I eat them! We generally eat low carb; haven't been a pasta/rice household for years, but there are plenty of exceptions that I need to keep to a minimum if I want to be able to maintain the weight I want to and have generally always been, as my 40's progress.

Thanks for all the ideas and inspiration, and to BIWI as always.

FinallyHere · 06/03/2023 09:47

Gratters on the impressive 14lbs @Smorgs

Bootcamping is a way of life for me.

I'll continue to hang around this thread for continuing inspiration and support. I'm hoping for company from others, hope you will join us.

Without this support, I can easily see myself sliding now a slippery slope of 'just one won't hurt' when I know it really does. Thanks to bootcamp, I've averaged a pound loss a week over the last year.

Now getting closer to target than I ever imagined I would be ...

Something to try would be to start with a small portion - if you're still hungry 15 minutes after you've finished, then eat some more.

This is such a useful way to look at eating less, thank you @BIWI I struggle a tad with even thinking I should eat less. Thinking of having something smaller at first, with more to follow if it turns out I do want more is genius.

Mostly it's the thought of food that I want. It's so closely bound up in my mind with love and treats ... once I get distracted by more interesting things, that desire tends to evaporate.

Another reason why I piled on so much weight during the lockdown months. Sigh.

Kleptronic · 06/03/2023 09:50

I've managed to shift my 6lb Xmas chub and I'm going to KOKO. I do NOT want to ever have to lose that 6lb again, I am DONE with groundhog day!

Thanks BIWI and everyone for being so supportive. Now for that last stone...

OldandTired66 · 06/03/2023 09:53

A tiny gain this week but it was my birthday weekend so not beating myself up about it. Just over 10lbs loss this BC which I'm very pleased about. Busy week ahead as sister from US is visiting but will try to stay off the booze and biscuits. 😬. Thank you @BIWI and @FinallyHere for running the camp, and all the other lovely campers for support. Looking to break through the 90kg barrier next BC which will take me lower than I have been for years. KOKO all.

Skiphopbump · 06/03/2023 10:00

STS this week, have been getting a bit lax so didn’t expect a loss.

Woke up in the night with a terrible pain between my shoulders and under my right rib. Took painkillers but still feel very tender under my rib. Feeling exhausted this morning.

It’s my birthday this week and have afternoon tea booked with my mum today and dinner with DH tomorrow. Then at the weekend we are going to visit DD at uni. Will be off plan for a few days but 100% back on plan one week today.

Glorianna · 06/03/2023 10:05

I loved the bootcamp, thank you for the support.

Congrats to everyone on their losses.

I’ve lost a total of 16.5lb and can’t wait for the next bootcamp!

pinknsparkly · 06/03/2023 10:17

Hi all, this bootcamp has been really helpful for me in terms of managing my gestational diabetes (I won't post my weight as that'll skew everyone else's lovely results of a gentle or steep downwards trend!). I had my 12 week scan two weeks ago, and baby is looking lovely and healthy and super wriggly. I had the same thing at my 12 week with last baby, and that time they blamed it on the chocolate brownie I ate in the waiting room right before the scan. This time, I hadn't eaten yet and my bloods were fine so evidently I just grow wriggly babies that like to test the sonographers 😂

@FinallyHere - I have the glucose revolution book by Jessie Inchauspe, which is about how to eat to keep your blood sugar stable (so not a low carb book as such). She recommends having a starter of low carb vegetable soup or salad/cooked veggies before your main course. Though the idea is that you fill your stomach with fibre to slow the digestion of the carbs in the main course, I imagine it would have the same effect as BIWI suggests with giving your brain time to catch up with your stomach? It's a concept that's stuck in my head since reading the book, but I must admit I've not actually got round to trying it yet!!

mimosa1 · 06/03/2023 11:27

Hi all,
Reporting 4kg off this BC - huge thanks for @BIWI and @FinallyHere for running the BC. I've had a few wobbles along the way but I'm staying the course - my goal is not to put any weight on before the next BC.
All the best to you all ! KOKO :)
