Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - the final weigh-in

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for its final outing

I hope that this has been a good Bootcamp for you all - it's been fairly quiet and peaceful this time around! Never sure if that's a good thing or not, but at least we haven't had any public flouncing!

I know that not everyone joined us in week one, and @AlmaHart has only just started (!) but don't worry - we'll keep this thread going for general chat and ongoing support.

There are also a couple of extra columns on the spreadsheet too.

Thank you for everyone who has posted and supported - and special thanks to @Finallyhere for womanning the spreadsheet

Cook for 15 minutes and blitz with a hand held belender

For clarification, it was a blender
😂😱

@venusandmars, this has to be one of my favourite bootcamp typos 😂 thanks for the ideas!

Also, crispy fried cabbage omelette sounds AMAZING. I've never considered frying veggies for omelette before (other than onion) and now can't work out why!

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 07/03/2023 10:25

👋 hey all.

Only here for a little longer sadly, as I’m going to de-reg from MN 😔 (just hanging around for a few more days to see if there’ll be any resolution to a certain matter).

Loved that belender typo @venusandmars! 😆😆 Really glad that you don’t actually employ that particular method of mixing/blitzing!!

Dinner last night was lovely. Didn’t think about the carbs, tbh - just had a little of everything. It’s not a dinner plate, just a lunch/starter plate so the portions are smaller than it looks like (that’s been the case for most of my dinner photos throughout BC - should have thought to mention that!).

Beef bourguignon (ish - not strictly classic as I used dried mushrooms and sliced onion and a mix of wine stock and wine), had with potato and leek mash, green beans with olive oil, and leftover cauliflower cheese from a few days ago.

Thanks again everyone for a really positive and inspiring BC. Well done to all of us on losses, well done on being healthier and happier, and feeling better for looking after ourselves well!💐

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 07/03/2023 10:29

Forgot the photo (got myself all emotional over leaving this place...)

Also forgot to mention the very welcome glass of wine!

@AllTangledUpInThisTango that's a pity, you've been such a strong poster on this bootcamp. It's a shame that stuff on another topic is going to deprive us of your input and encouragement. However we all have to do what is right for us, so best wishes to you Flowers

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 07/03/2023 14:53

Ah thanks @venusandmars and best wishes to you (and all!) too. 💐 I’m going to hang around for a few more days, probably, but won’t post much. Will read along here until it’s time to close the door.

<Sighs, steadies self, plans a comforting cuppa in a minute to mull things over>

prettybird · 07/03/2023 18:04

@AllTangledUpInThisTango - @venusandmars is absolutely correct: we'll miss your contributions but you must look after yourself and do what us right for you Flowers

I've sent you a PM: no obligation to respond Wink

Baystard · 07/03/2023 19:09

Sorry to hear that @AllTangledUpInThisTango Flowers

Day two of KOKO going reasonably well - tomato omelette, FFGY with raspberries (sour ones from the garden), beef chilli, kale and a small piece of coarse brown bread with lots of butter. It's not BC compliant but neither have I fallen face first into anything sugary/processed so I'm happy.

Rollerbird · 07/03/2023 20:49

Day 2 of this week. No sweetener filled anything (looking at you sugar free electrolyte tablets)
Water, double cream in coffee.
Greek style yog and double cream
Idiot proof moussaka (big portion)
Needed more veg... Just had the aubergine in the moussaka.

OhCobblers · 08/03/2023 06:50

@BIWI and anyone else?!

I've got a couple of other threads going but it's been suggested I come back here. A but late in the day as you're doing final weigh in 😬 but just in case you can help ?

I lost a lot of weight a couple of years ago by doing a loose version of the Fast 800 and exercising.

since then I've put a stone on but I generally do stick to a low carb way of eating as I don't like how I feel when I do eat carbs. My TDEE is 1500 but I need to lose 2lbs a week to be at ideal weight for an event. That would leave me in a deficit of 500 calories a day!

I'm eating up to 850 calories a day but not a lot of exercise and not shifting anything - maybe 1/2 a pound but nothing consistent like last time and I don't think I'm in ketosis either - any idea where I'm going wrong?! Finding it rather depressing at the moment!

Baystard · 08/03/2023 07:27

@OhCobblers how long has it been and what are you eating typically?

OhCobblers · 08/03/2023 07:32

@Baystard
Feels like weeks though probably a month in reality.
Ive been eating under maintenance calories for a while but in a big deficit for probably 2-3 weeks.
Last time the weight drop was significant v early on?

OhCobblers · 08/03/2023 07:36

@Baystard this was yesterday:-

Sautéed beef mince 270 cals with aubergine 14 cals courgette 27 cals mushrooms 11cals butter 131 cals all purpose seasoning 12 cals
Total 465

Water, coffee and
dinner was sautéed veg with grated cheese on top! Plus I only eat 16:8 between 12-8pm!

Baystard · 08/03/2023 08:28

@OhCobblers it sounds like you've not been eating enough for a long period and it's likely this has stalled you. Your body thinks that food is scarce and is trying to hang onto your body reserves as long as possible. I don't think that Fast 800 type regimes well if you've already been eating too little. I'd start eating more (but still low carb). That might be enough to get things moving again but you may need to persevere for a while. Welcome to bootcamp though Smile

Baystard · 08/03/2023 08:38

@OhCobblers bootcamp has just finished but this thread will keep going with those of us who want to stick with it until next BC-proper. I'd suggest you have a look at the spreadsheet of fabulousness in @BIWI 's opening post - there are tabs with the rules, recipe suggestions etc. It sounds like you like veggies and aren't afraid of fat - so you'll fit right in! Smile

pinknsparkly · 08/03/2023 09:10

@OhCobblers, I'm afraid I'm not much help on recommendations food wise, but I presume you are aiming to fit into a specific outfit for this event? Have you tried it on since starting dieting? Are you physically fitting into it better than previously? We've had a few people not lose weight but ending up smaller as the weight presumably gets redistributed. BIWI often recommends people measure themselves in addition to weighing for this reason!

BIWI · 08/03/2023 09:16

@OhCobblers welcome to Bootcamp! I think you get the medal for being the latest joinenr Grin

If you've done Bootcamp before, you'll know that we don't count calories. It's all about the carbs.

Have you read "Why We Eat (Too Much)" by Dr Andrew Jenkinson? He explains why calorie counting doesn't work. I know you've had success previously, but he explains the theory of the set point, and why restricting calories becomes counter productive.

Like @Baystard I'd say that you don't seem to be eating enough. Intermittent fasting is a good strategy, but I think you need more nutrition and more calories.

Down to 11st 5.75lb this morning Smile

And I tried on my salopettes (c30 years old Shock) and they fitted Grin Dh and I both had a recollection that I had a pair of non-bib salopettes, which we can't find, but I suspect that they were the large pair that I had to use the last two times we went skiing (2017 and 2012) Blush when I was at least 1.5 stone heavier than I am now Shock They're now very loose on me Smile - so I can take them as back up. Halo

Almahart · 08/03/2023 15:37

Woo hoo @prettybird! And welcome @OhCobblers

Had a lovely meal last night of beef curry with fried Turkish aubergines abs garlicky yogurt sauce. Fresh flat leaf parsley too, that definitely made it more special

Skiphopbump · 08/03/2023 16:04

Well done @prettybird
Fantastic overall loss @Jenasaurus , really inspiring

I got my Hba1c result back. In October it was 47 which spurred me on to start low carbing - now it’s 37, very pleased with that!

Baystard · 08/03/2023 17:37

Well done @Skiphopbump and @prettybird, great NSVs!

My NSV this week is that I can feel a six-pack! Whilst I'm a long way off it being visible (or toned) it's the first time I've been able to even feel my stomach muscles underneath the fat! In fact it may be a lifetime first Grin

Rollerbird · 08/03/2023 21:31

Wow @Baystard im off to prod my belly!!

Jenasaurus · 08/03/2023 22:43

Thats a brilliant HbA1c result @Skiphopbump well done. I got mine down from 80 to 40 by low carbing too, it really is the way forward isnt it.

Are you going to carry on with this after bootcamp. I tend to automatically choose low carb things from habit now, and am a little anxious around carbs (not that you would have noticed when I had my afternoon tea pedicure mind, first cake I have had in 8 months and I did enjoy it, but back on with my low carb meals the next day, which is something in the past I wouldnt have done, I was someone that when ruining a diet on one day would then sabotage the whole diet for many weeks, months always promising myself the next day would be day 1. Doing it to keep healthy really helps doesnt it? Well done you have done really really well xxx

Rayna37 · 09/03/2023 06:39

That's excellent @Skiphopbump well done!

Bad day of food, big afternoon tea event for IWD where I went a bit wild, but back to normal now.

pinknsparkly · 09/03/2023 07:02

@Skiphopbump and @Jenasaurus , so many congratulations on your blood results! I also started low carbing as I was diagnosed as prediabetic and wanted to nip it in the bud! I find it absolutely makes this WOE easier to stick to when done for health reasons rather than just wanting to lose a few pounds 😁 Out of interest @Jenasaurus - are you now deemed to be diabetic for life, having had a Hb1Ac of 80, or is the GP happy to say that you no longer have it with bloods of 40?

And @prettybird and @Baystard congrats to you guys too! Those are great NSVs!

SpottyBumPony · 09/03/2023 10:32

Gah I've been in carb free fall for three days. After the first bite I was 'chasing the dragon' trying to be satisfied.

Never mind, I've got a clear head today, I'm back. I've got an event at the weekend and I think I was having a subconscious reaction to knowing a 'good week' wouldn't make me a size 12 by then (🙄) so I went in to I may as well have carbs mode.

I won't list what I ate, it's a disgusting amount for even someone onn a balanced carby diet.
