Welcome everyone! We have over 160 people signed up this time, so things are going to move quickly.

Here's the link to The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which has been carefully and lovingly curated by the very lovely @FinallyHere

There are a few bits of admin that I need to post before we get going. The first of which is the usual disclaimer:

I am not a medic, a scientist, a dietician or a nutritionist. Everything that I post here is based on my reading and my own experiences of low carbing gained over the last 20 years. You follow the guidance here at your own risk - although I very much hope that there are no risks!

Very importantly, though, if you are on any kind of long-term medication, please talk to your GP/nurse about low carbing. This is especially important if you're on drugs for hypertension, cholesterol and/or diabetes, as a low carb diet should have a positive impact on all of those conditions, which would mean that your dosage may need to be decreased, if not removed altogether.

The second is about etiquette:

Please, please, please read all the posts on the thread before you make your own post. These threads work so much better when we're all here interacting with each other, as that means we can offer help and support when it's needed. Don't just jump on the thread to plop down your meals for the day, your weight that day and then just fuck off. That doesn't help anyone.

More than anything else, it's incredibly irritating when someone posts a question which has already been answered early in the thread. I, and lots of other Bootcampers, spend a considerable amount of time responding to people's questions and concerns, and it's pretty insulting when it's obvious that these haven't been read.

(Oh, and it's very obvious if you haven't read the thread, so take that as a warning Wink)

Stokey actually I think that's what I meant but now I think about it this particular jacket is quite generous; I don't think a current high street 12 would be so big!

CleanQueen123 · 15/01/2023 18:46

How many carbs per day are we aiming for?

I know about the less than 5g per 100g but what are we looking for across the day?

Nugg · 15/01/2023 18:51

@CleanQueen123 we are not counting

DryWhiteagainW · 15/01/2023 19:08

Ryna I found the frozen cauli rice in Morrisons .

I've had a day of batch cooking for the week ahead:

loads of soup for lunches
Boiled eggs and roasted chicken thighs with chicken seasoning for snacks.
roasted chicken breasts for salads.
made Spanish chicken for Tuesday dinner and the cottage pie with celeriac mash for dinner tonight that was delicious. Celeriac is a true revelation.

meat balls and ratatouille also on the menu this week.

I bought some full fat Greek yogurt, so delicious, so much nicer than the Aldi fat free concrete I’m used to.

Can someone explain why it’s so important to have so much fat? Is it more than just to fill you up?

katesbushh · 15/01/2023 19:11

Stayed pretty much on track all weekend

Only slight deviation was going out for my mums (big) birthday yesterday
I stayed on track with food but did have a glass of champagne with everyone.

I haven't weighed since Friday when I was 2lb up...
But I feel lighter and far less bloated.
Especially in my face.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 15/01/2023 19:21

Lovely tea, beef stroganoff made with the last of the Christmas leftovers, celeriac mash with loads of butter and broccoli, also in loads of butter. Feeling nice and full now and settling down with my last bottle of water for the day.

Am shattered after a really busy day, dog walk, run, washing, cleaning and completely sorting my office. It's been a dumping ground for months and the sort out was long over due. While I can't say I'm looking forward to work tomorrow, it'll certainly be a bit more pleasant than it has been recently.

Veryfishy · 15/01/2023 19:28

We’ve been out for a walk , the weathers been nice 3 days in a row now , though very cold ( all rigged up in coat , hat , gloves and scarf as well as winter clothes )

Had the afternoon home alone , so did some sorting out , we downsized in November , boxes all emptied …..but a few things need to be put away properly

Brunch bacon , chipolata, poached egg tomato , cauliflower hash brown ( which was a mistake as it has potato in it , should have read the packet )
Snack .cheese
Dinner .roast pork , ( loads of ) cabbage , cauli cheese , carrots , gravy

No wine , doing Dry January , Sunday is always a challenge though , but I’m still on the sparkling water

@katesbushh a Mums big birthday definitely deserves a glass of champagne 🥂

@Greatly glad you’re feeling better

Quick Greek yog & cream question , do you whip the cream before mixing with the yoghurt or just mix ? I mixed and it was runny , tasted nice , but I would like it abit more solid

Gingerwarthog · 15/01/2023 18:00

Does anyone else feel the cold more on this WOE?

yep, I’ve been bloody freezing (more than usual ) for the last two weeks! ( I started lower carbing the week before BC)

OldandTired66 · 15/01/2023 19:41

Where do we stand on poppadoms? Aldi, ready to eat, 3.3g carb per poppadom. I had one with my curry.

amispeakingintongues · 15/01/2023 19:50

Well. All was going well today until I sliced the tip of my finger with a v sharp knife while shredding cabbage for my gammon dinner.

have it wrapped in a tight bandage now but feel too sick to eat - after all that!

B: creamy coffee and a fried egg
L: salami, cheese, homemade mushroom soup
D: a trip to the first aid box

Andi2020 · 15/01/2023 19:58

@amispeakingintongues hope your OK @Veryfishy I find the lidl full fat Greek yogurt the best for me but find it hard to get at the moment
Well done everyone first week complete
Had an emotional day dd back to Uni

NotDonna · 15/01/2023 20:14

@DryWhiteagainW I’m sure @BIWI will be along to provide a better explanation of why high fat is important whilst low carbing but it’s not just to help satiate and prevent carb snacking but also prevent your body going into starvation mode and lowering your metabolism.

Nugg · 15/01/2023 20:20

@DryWhiteagainW cut this from the rules but @BIWI has elaborated since this as well

  1. Eat lots of fat

Eating fat will not make you fat. Honestly! But it will keep your appetite satisfied, and it sustains your body’s energy requirements perfectly. Fat does not provoke an insulin spike, unlike carbs which do (a lot) and protein (a little).

Gingerwarthog · 15/01/2023 20:22

@LittleMy77
Glad it's not just me then. I had white fingers earlier!

DryWhiteagainW · 15/01/2023 20:27

Thank you NotDonna and Nugg ….and things taste so much nicer with a bit of fat tbh

Baystard · 15/01/2023 20:38

@DryWhiteagainW for the joy it brings!

BIWI · 15/01/2023 21:47

CleanQueen123 · 15/01/2023 18:46

@CleanQueen123 you haven't been reading my posts have you?! If you had, you'd have seen a link to the FAQ, of which one is exactly that!

Anyway, to answer your question, there isn't one answer we can give you, because everyone responds to carbs differently. Which is why we don't specify a particular amount.

Just follow Bootcamp rules and you should be fine!

BIWI · 15/01/2023 21:50

And also @DryWhiteagainW if you had read the FAQ you would have seen that too!

Please - this is why I ask everyone at the start of Bootcamp to read all the posts. There's so much valuable information being posted on the threads.

Is full fat mayo (hellmans) allowed? I think so but drawing a blank! there’s some v dry roast chicken for lunch tomorrow that needs rescuing..

BIWI · 15/01/2023 22:23

@LittleMy77 I've posted on this thread already about Hellman's! Yes it's allowed.

Greatly · 15/01/2023 22:29

@Veryfishy I have Lidl 10% greek yogurt and I treat myself by buying thick double cream from the farm shop. The two mixed together is addictive!

mimosa1 · 15/01/2023 22:40

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I find I'm doing well with the food during the day, but do struggle when I want something sweet on the sofa with DH after dinner. Not helped with him munching biscuits next to me. Although to be fair, munching the biscuits is what's caused me to balloon! Any tips for nice teas that could help? I like mallow flower tea but would love more suggestions to break the habit.

@LittleMy77 FF Hellman's is allowed - enjoy!

LoopingLizards · 15/01/2023 23:00

Hi all,
thanks for the add, a bit late but I’m starting tomorrow
bacon and eggs for breakfast and then I’m off to do a shop for the rest of the week. Just going to go back now and read through the thread for some inspiration 😁
