Welcome everyone! We have over 160 people signed up this time, so things are going to move quickly.

Here's the link to The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which has been carefully and lovingly curated by the very lovely @FinallyHere

There are a few bits of admin that I need to post before we get going. The first of which is the usual disclaimer:

I am not a medic, a scientist, a dietician or a nutritionist. Everything that I post here is based on my reading and my own experiences of low carbing gained over the last 20 years. You follow the guidance here at your own risk - although I very much hope that there are no risks!

Very importantly, though, if you are on any kind of long-term medication, please talk to your GP/nurse about low carbing. This is especially important if you're on drugs for hypertension, cholesterol and/or diabetes, as a low carb diet should have a positive impact on all of those conditions, which would mean that your dosage may need to be decreased, if not removed altogether.

The second is about etiquette:

Please, please, please read all the posts on the thread before you make your own post. These threads work so much better when we're all here interacting with each other, as that means we can offer help and support when it's needed. Don't just jump on the thread to plop down your meals for the day, your weight that day and then just fuck off. That doesn't help anyone.

More than anything else, it's incredibly irritating when someone posts a question which has already been answered early in the thread. I, and lots of other Bootcampers, spend a considerable amount of time responding to people's questions and concerns, and it's pretty insulting when it's obvious that these haven't been read.

(Oh, and it's very obvious if you haven't read the thread, so take that as a warning Wink)

@BIWI thanks for the prod! I do semi plan in the week, but I often don't fancy what I was going to cook so make something else instead. As I largely wfh I find it much easier.

The issues are when I go into the office (twice a week) or weekends, and want to devour all the sandwiches in Pret....I've planned for today and tomorrow!

But I've stuck to it, no birthday cake or sandwiches passed my lips at this morning's party 😇

Just had my chicken fajita bowl and have already drunk all my water so feeling really positive

Pleaseandthankyou · 14/01/2023 13:53

There are some great ideas on this thread. I am still licking my fingers after the most delicious chicken wings. I think it was @prettybird who gave me the inspiration. I tossed the wings in olive oil, added garlic, salt flakes, Korean red pepper flakes and squeezed a lemon over the top. Put the lemon on the tray as it went into the oven. I scraped the bottom of the roasting tray.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 14/01/2023 14:27

@Pleaseandthankyou
chicken wings ! I never thought of them , just about to go shopping so a timely suggestion

Baystard · 14/01/2023 14:38

@Jollyholibobs hope you enjoy your lovely meal.

@TheMagicSword impressive self control with the sweets (if ever an occasion was going to tempt me into instant sugar gratification it would be a kid's birthday party Grin)

Congratulations on reaching your goal @Gingerwarthog.

@venusandmars good point about feeling full after creamy/bulletproof coffee and it substituting better nutrition. You prompted me to have an omelette instead today and this lead to today's exciting food discovery...

A cabbage, tomato and Italian herb omelette is lovely! Fried a little chopped tomato with finely shredded cabbage and some Italian herb mix in butter until the cabbage was just starting to brown, then added eggs. I'd not thought of cabbage with eggs before but it worked really well.

prettybird · 14/01/2023 14:46

4 times today I've gone into the fridge to have a slice or two of salami and/or Emmenthal and four times I've shut the door and gone and drunk some water Halo

It's habit rather than hunger giving me the urge Blush

Nugg · 14/01/2023 14:47

Morning all. Busy day so far and menu planning and doing my shopping list.

Wanted to make the Thai green curry but can't see a low carb curry paste - this one below looked ok but the carbs are Confused

Can anyone point me to the recipe. Am not at home so have tried to search on the app and can't find it sorry!

Mercedesbenz2022 · 14/01/2023 15:04

@nugg those carbs are for 100g though , I haven’t made curry but that seems a lot of paste ??

Hopeislost · 14/01/2023 15:10

@Nugg when I make a Thai green curry I use 50g paste and that serves 4. So only about 2g carbs per portion.

MrsTaytodarling · 14/01/2023 15:49

Mind if I join? I've got my usual how can this work?? I've tried a few times but didn't stick to it cause I'm scared of all the butter and cream. I'm trusting the process this time though. Baked creamy leeks is a big fave with me with chicken thighs or steak or whatever

Jenasaurus · 14/01/2023 15:56

Still not tried the chicken recipes on here as had some other food that was about to go out of date, today I have Bolognese but instead of pasta, lots of veg, it was glorious. I had my lashes done today and the technician commented on my weight loss, so a very positive day

@prettybird I have one of those pig oinking devices when I open the fridge to put off repeat offences :)

Brassbumblebee · 14/01/2023 15:56

Well Saturday is ticking along nicely, stuck to plan but some random food choices/times because I'm at work.

B: celery sticks with cream cheese
Lunch time snack: two chicken drumsticks wrapped in bacon.
Proper lunch (at 3.30pm..): massive tuna mayo salad with olives, feta and a boiled egg.

I'm stuffed but I might have another chicken drumstick later if/when I get hungry. I really wont need another meal though.

Veg hasnt been great today apart from the huge mixed salad so I will make sure to have extra tomorrow.

mimosa1 · 14/01/2023 15:57

Welcome @MrsTaytodarling - there's a link in the first post to the spreadsheet of fabulousness and lots of helpful info there.

I've had a good weekend so far with the family, though still under the weather. I feel certain that all the lovely veg, broth, fat, etc. Is helping me recover as all the food we eat on this woe is nutrient rich.

I AM going to skip all the planned gym sessions and park run I had planned for this weekend though. I had 3 weeks off at Christmas and got I'll right as I returned to work so felt I had to power through. What I SHOULD have done is taken a few days off in bed... so anyway, no guilt at not leaving the house this weekend!

Nugg · 14/01/2023 16:53

@Hopeislost will look in bigger shop thank you. Do you use a particular one?

LittleMy77 · 14/01/2023 17:11

Went to my parents for lunch who really tried to cover all bases; big tuna niçoise salad, pastrami, cheese, but also fresh french bread and all the indian / thai freezer snacks (samosas etc) and my home made brownies defrosted from
christmas!

I mostly resisted temptation but caved and ate a small spring roll. I’ve eaten way too much cheese today to compensate and now feel slightly sick -at least i know my cheese limit now

Stocking up on no sugar / sweetener fizzy water - got a pack of rhubarb and ginger water from
aldi which is quite nice, but has a lingering aftertaste reminiscent of bathroom
cleaner Grin

FinallyHere · 14/01/2023 17:29

@MrsTaytodarling

Added you to the spreadsheet. No pressure to us it, just incase it does work for you.

Please let me know if you are veggie, veggies are highlighted in green because the rules are slightly different for them.

Anyone wanting to be added, please name check me in whichever is the current thread

Everyone else welcome to add yourselves to the end of the list of names. There are loads of extra row available.

UnfinishedBusiness · 14/01/2023 17:34

Afternoon.

Good to hear your DF is recovering so well from his surgery @prettybird . He certainly sounds like he has a lot of plans to be cracking on with!

I hope you love the cabbage recipe as much as we do @venusandmars .

B: left over chicken wing with a giant dollop of Mayo and a creamy coffee.
L: Broccoli and Stilton soup.
D: Steak with some of the leftover creamy sausage, mushroom and spinach florentine sauce, swede chips and rocket salad.

prettybird · 14/01/2023 17:37

Change of plan for supper: have made pork burgers (high fat pork mince, a finely chopped shallot, garlic, an egg, a generous glug of Worcestershire sauce and a generous glug of olive oil, S&P, formed into burgers and left in the fridge to firm up) as dh and ds turned their noses up at the idea of the chicken and chorizo dish. It's only because I'd mentioned pork burgers as a possibility, so I'll shift making the chicken & chorizo until Monday or Tuesday.

Dh and ds will have it with chips; I've got baby sweetcorn that needs using up for me, along with maybe some buttery Savoy cabbage.

Hopeislost · 14/01/2023 17:38

@Nugg I like the Mae Ploy one, which I think is what you posted from the ingredients as it has lots of chilli and no added sugar. The supermarket own brand pastes tend to be milder (so you need to use more) and have added sugar.

Greatly · 14/01/2023 17:40

I feel properly poorly. Just want to crawl into bed with the electric blanket on.

Brassbumblebee · 14/01/2023 17:41

Does anyone have any interesting red cabbage recipes?

I've got a massive one in the fridge that needs using up.

stayathomegardener · 14/01/2023 17:48

StuntNun · 13/01/2023 07:26

On the yogurt chat, I make my own yogurt from full fat milk and a starter culture, or you can use any live yogurt as a starter then save a bit of yogurt from each batch to make the next one. My Instant Pot has a setting that pre-heats the milk for yogurt or you can use a yogurt maker, thermos flask or slow cooker (you might have to wrap them in towels to keep the temperature up) with UHT milk and skip the pre-heating step. I also strain my yogurt to make Greek yogurt, in which case you can save some of the whey liquid to start your next batch of yogurt - it freezes well so you save enough for several batches of yogurt. I also make my own kefir which is even easier because you don't need to pre-heat the milk and it's cultured at room temperature. If anyone wants to try making their own kefir, I'm happy to post out some grains.

I'd be really grateful for some starter gains please StuntNun.

StuntNun · 14/01/2023 18:03

@stayathomegardener please can you PM me with your address? I'm on my phone and can't work out how to PM people. Do you know how to make kefir or would you like instructions as well?

Gingerwarthog · 14/01/2023 18:10

Hi!
Can I ask - is alcoholic free beer ok? 3.5g per 100ml?

stayathomegardener · 14/01/2023 18:15

Would you mind adding my weight 10st 10 please as I'm convinced I'll crash the carefully crafted spreadsheet doing it myself.

10st 6lb this morning which bodes well for Monday's weigh in.

prettybird · 14/01/2023 18:17

I don't know about you @Gingerwarthog but 100ml or even 200ml of low/zero alcohol beer wouldn't satisfy me Wink so the carbs would really add up if you had a reasonably sized glass Sad
