Welcome everyone! We have over 160 people signed up this time, so things are going to move quickly.

Here's the link to The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which has been carefully and lovingly curated by the very lovely @FinallyHere

There are a few bits of admin that I need to post before we get going. The first of which is the usual disclaimer:

I am not a medic, a scientist, a dietician or a nutritionist. Everything that I post here is based on my reading and my own experiences of low carbing gained over the last 20 years. You follow the guidance here at your own risk - although I very much hope that there are no risks!

Very importantly, though, if you are on any kind of long-term medication, please talk to your GP/nurse about low carbing. This is especially important if you're on drugs for hypertension, cholesterol and/or diabetes, as a low carb diet should have a positive impact on all of those conditions, which would mean that your dosage may need to be decreased, if not removed altogether.

The second is about etiquette:

Please, please, please read all the posts on the thread before you make your own post. These threads work so much better when we're all here interacting with each other, as that means we can offer help and support when it's needed. Don't just jump on the thread to plop down your meals for the day, your weight that day and then just fuck off. That doesn't help anyone.

More than anything else, it's incredibly irritating when someone posts a question which has already been answered early in the thread. I, and lots of other Bootcampers, spend a considerable amount of time responding to people's questions and concerns, and it's pretty insulting when it's obvious that these haven't been read.

(Oh, and it's very obvious if you haven't read the thread, so take that as a warning Wink)

@LoopingLizards

Hi, welcome to bootcamp, moving over from the prep thread. .

@BountyMultipack I would melt butter in the microwave in a little milk jug or ramekin and pour it over boiled or steamed vegetables that your DH can eat unadorned. You could also mix double cream in with your yogurt. Avocado is another good source of healthy fat.

I made the chicken shawarma that someone linked to upthread which was a very nice lunch and a big difference to my usual bacon and eggs. I served it with big lettuce leaves and sour cream. So thanks for the recommendation whoever you are!

Afternoon all, busy weekend but I’ve stuck to plan absolutely with food - bar 1 glass of yellowtail Pinot Grigio last night, a Google tells me that actually not too bad for carbs but as is alcohol I know it’s still a cheat.

been to the butchers and bought 5kg chicken legs and thighs, and also a gammon joint which is currently boiling - ready to be mustard and honey roasted and that’ll do my salads for the week

Brassbumblebee · 15/01/2023 14:35

@StuntNun oooh could you share the link for the shawarma recipe please? I missed that somehow. Thanks

Well came home to find that I didnt have any sweed in the fridge, weird as i usually always have some in. Oh well have decided to replace the sweed and carrot mash for buttery Savoy cabbage, probably better on the carb front anyway.

The cauliflower cheese looks delicious its currently in the oven. Cant wait!

MaryDoll84 · 15/01/2023 14:37

I've been to lidl and they had a couple of good finds. Full fat cottage cheese that is 2.8g carb for 100g. I will probably add a bit to salads. They also had full fat soft cheese, 3g per 100g. Philadelphia and most supermarkets own are around 5% carbs so this one is better and cheaper.

@Brassbumblebee https://www.ketofitnessclub.com/blogs/chicken/shawarmaa* Shawarma recipe - apologies I can't remember who originally shared it a few days ago.

Shortish bike ride this morning so didn't need a snack. Breakfast was parma ham frazzled in a pan then an egg fried on top. Lunch a picky plate of smoked mackerel, various cheeses, olives, lettuce, streaky bacon rashers. Dinner, beef curry with cauliflower rice. Yesterdays cafe lunch was soup and a chicken caesar salad. Friends had my croutons in their soup and took my bread roll home! Excited about the weigh in tomorrow. Fingers crossed for everyone.

Skiphopbump · 15/01/2023 15:35

I went to Nando’s for lunch today, it was easy to stick to low carb with chicken thighs and broccoli.

Gingerwarthog · 15/01/2023 15:36

Have been incredibly hungry in the mornings.
Went for a 4 mile run this morning and was starving when I came back. A cheese omelette has sorted that out though.

Lucienandjean · 15/01/2023 16:14

@StuntNun glad you enjoyed the recipe 😉. There are quite a few tasty recipes on that site - the Kung Pao chicken is very good.

I do my pak / box choi by shredding it up, flash frying chopped ginger, red chilli and garlic in sesame oil and then dump the pak choi in. Throw on some soy / teriyaki sauce and stir fry for not long.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 15/01/2023 17:09

Thanks @LittleMy77 that sounds really tasty 😋

Rayna37 · 15/01/2023 17:49

@DryWhiteagainW I always fry my cauli rice from frozen it's fine. Did you get it in Aldi? I've not seen it in there for years, would be great if they were stocking it again!

prettybird · 15/01/2023 17:53

Re stir fries: many stir fries finish off with some toasted sesame oil just before serving (the oil doesn't like to much heat). That's one way of adding extra fat Smile

Jenasaurus · 15/01/2023 17:55

Hope you feel better soon @Greatly

On the subject of water, I have done really well today, not normally very good with this, but kept drinking throughout the day (and peeing too)

Looking forward to tomorrows weigh in as i hope to lose at least a pound!

Hope everyones Sunday has gone well, I have distracted myself catching up watching Happy Valley

Rayna37 · 15/01/2023 17:57

I've not done badly for water today considering, quite pleased with myself! I track using the Waterlogged app- yet another app but it does work for me.

B: 1/2 avocado and Cheshire cheese in an omelette (2 eggs)
L: bit of smoked salmon, the other half of the avo, a dollop of generic Philly and 3 buttery scrambled eggs.
D: just cooking roast pork, (previously cooked and frozen) red cabbage, broccoli, leek and sprouts which will be buttery.

Bought a "Vintage" C&A jacket today, nice checked boxy oversize style, but isn't it interesting/horrifying how an 80's (?) 12 is huge.

Greatly · 15/01/2023 17:58

I actually do feel a lot better, thank you! Dh made me some eggs and bacon earlier and then I had rather a lot of greek yog and double cream!

Gingerwarthog · 15/01/2023 18:00

Does anyone else feel the cold more on this WOE?

Stokey · 15/01/2023 18:07

@Rayna37 that's weird, I thought sizes were bigger now?
@Gingerwarthog we're on the edge of a cold spell... Temperature has dropped since yesterday.

I've gone for a very long walk today -10 miles - to a nearby pub for lunch, with a very carb heavy menu. I ended up just having soup as we had a roast yesterday, and then a couple of bits of cheese when I got home. Not sure how tomorrow's weigh in will go, had a white wine lapse on Friday night so that may not have helped much.

B: Greek yogurt and cream
L: Broccoli & stilton soup
D: Aubergine parmigiana with rainbow chard & green beans

Gingerwarthog · 15/01/2023 18:16

@Stokey
Yes, but I'm feeling it more!
Wrapped up in a blanket beside the radiator and even a furry cat and cup of tea are not warming me today...
I'm sure not having lots of carbs must make you feel colder??

venusandmars · 15/01/2023 18:18

@LadyBiker I love those, when dh is snacking on crisps I'm eating seaweed!

venusandmars · 15/01/2023 18:20

They are not a crisp. Nothing like it. But they are something I can put in my mouth when I'm feeling mouth envy. Those and a couple of parmesan crisps - nibble heaven!

TheMagicSword · 15/01/2023 18:26

Had a slip up today - came over all weird, kind of like a migraine meets vertigo, felt like I urgently needed to eat so had half a ham sandwich as it was all that was available (other than cake and sweets). Not sure what it was, but I’d been running round a very hot gymnasium after my toddlers (who didn’t sleep last night so I was already running on empty!).

Back on track for dinner - shredded cabbage cooked in the microwave with butter, added some cream and salt/pepper, served with smoked haddock - the butter/cream worked well as a sauce for the fish. Made sure I’ve been having plenty of water this afternoon too.

Going to sit and meal plan tonight, I’ve been screen shotting and saving links as I read the conversation!
