I'd like to join you all again please as I need to get my head back in the game. I've given myself a few weeks off and allowed myself to eat my feelings where required. But having participated in all the bootcamps since last August seems to have helped reset my body slightly. In the past month, I've weighed exactly the same each week despite eating rather more carbs than bootcamp would allow (but far fewer than pre bootcamp!). I've always participate in these more for blood sugar control as I had gestational diabetes and was pre diabetic both before and after giving birth. But the weight loss is a welcome bonus! Thanks so much for running these @BIWI

Thank you @BIWI.
I have plateaued last couple of weeks but feeling so much better than I did at the start!

BIWI · 07/07/2022 21:44

In full disclosure, I go on holiday on 20 September, 2 days after the next Bootcamp will finish, so I do have, as they say, 'skin in the game'!

I've just ordered the glucose goddess book online and, inspired by multiple mentions on previous bootcamp threads, also ordered why we eat too much. I'm hoping they'll help ramp up my motivation again!

BIWI · 07/07/2022 22:22

That's a really good book @pinknsparkly so I'm sure it will help ramp up the motivation!

I'll be there although lots of holidays in that period so probably more for accountability to stay on the straight and narrow maintaining rather than losing

I’m in for this one , been ticking along maintenaning since the last one , albeit with more carbs and would like to refocus and get back into it properly
lovely to see some familiar names

BIWI · 08/07/2022 09:20

I realise that a Bootcamp over the summer holidays is probably not the best timing - but perhaps it will help all of you/us who are looking to maintain, rather than lose? As PP have said, see it as a form of accountability

OP posts:
GalactatingGoddess · 08/07/2022 10:40

@BIWI Ahhh I see, okay I shall do the boot camp light then.
Is there a shopping list thread or a food ideas thread as I when I think of breakfast and dinner for a time poor person (as I imagine most are) I always come unstuck

FinallyHere · 08/07/2022 10:55

Summer holidays is a great time for a bootcamp.

Bootcamp really took off for me, the year I read posts from @ilovecherries who kept rigorously to the rules from the day she started bootcamping and moved to bootcamp lite for holidays.

I had been assuming that I would fall off the waggon big time on holidays and had not been looking forward to going through the very early days of adapting to low carb (that loud voice in my ear telling me I had to eat chocolate, sweets, ice creme whatever) on my return.

Instead, on hols on Crete, in the sun, I drank lots of water, ate really well grilled fish/ meat and loads of salad & veg, had one ouzo each night (swerving the sugary cocktails).

Promised myself an ice creme on the last night which I forgot all about.

Asking in restaurants about veg and herbs and how they are cooked I found out about 'Horta' essentially 'whatever greens we could find in the market'

Brilliant holiday, good food, no guilt.

I remind myself if it when I wonder why I ever fall off the waggon meanwhile. Look forward to bootcamping with you all this summer.

@GalactatingGoddess you said you'd not be sticking to low carb forever. In my experience, adding carbs back in is (often) as much about the type of carb as it is about the amount. So carefully, mindfully, deliberately adding in beetroot or puy lentils, some overnight oats or a couple of Jersey Royal potatoes is massively different to eating a heap of ultra-processed junk.

The more natural veg based carbs won't spike your insulin response as much and (again ime) won't drive the carb craving that happens if I eat the 'magic' carb/sugar/salt/fat combo.

In maintenance, I have some higher carb foods each week. But not every day. And not the multiple carb frenzy that is a BBQ burger in a bun with southern fries and a side of smoky mac'n'cheese and a chipotle corn-on-the cob!

FrenchBoule · 08/07/2022 17:11

@BIWI summer holidays is excellent time. There’s so much fresh veg on the go,grilled meat and fish :) just as @FinallyHere pointed out.

I must say I’m really looking forward to change of scenery as brussel sprouts became my staple last time and I ate too many of them

Roast summer veg tray anyone? Drizzled in olive oil 😋

Hello to everybody, newbies and the company from previous Bootcamps 🙂 good luck

BIWI · 08/07/2022 17:22

You're right @FrenchBoule - and barbecue season is also perfect for low carbing!

Last night we had a barbecue, and I made:

  • beef burgers (mince with chopped shallots and added olive oil, s+p). The rest of the family had theirs in a bun, I had mine 'naked' - but with plastic cheese - have to have that on a burger! - and low sugar ketchup, American mustard and some fried onions
  • lamb koftas (lamb mince with spices and grated onion)
  • chicken skewers (breast of chicken, marinated in oil, chilli powder, lemon, ground cumin and coriander, and garlic)
  • halloumi with coriander, garlic and lemon dressing
  • home-made coleslaw
  • tomato and shallot salad
  • sausages (low carb)

I'm signing up a little tentatively - without going into potentially outing details, my housing situation is going to get very complicated part way through August and I'm not sure how much control I'm going to have over my food choices. I will see how it goes!

I last did bootcamp many name changes ago back in 2014 and it was fabulously successful. Alas, pregnancy plus lockdown plus other life changes have led to some serious weight gain the last couple of years and I need to tackle it.

StellaGibson2022 · 09/07/2022 10:23

Hello,

yes please. I do have a couple of questions though. Is there shopping list in place so I can meal plan and is the boot camp for a period of time and at that point can we up our carbs to whole meal pasta etc? (Thinking ahead as single mum would be great if I could eat the same as my DC)

thanks

I'm in, but no spreadsheet for me. I've followed along before but I lose track of weighing and then lose motivation so I'm much better off not doing that. Will be all in re the rules though!
