Week 3 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - moving on to Light?

BIWI · 16/05/2022 08:08

Good morning!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So today you have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, if you wish - which means you can re-introduce some fruit, some nuts/seeds and some alcohol. Note the use of the word 'some'!

If you wish, you can also now introduce/re-introduce intermittent fasting - most people drop breakfast, but it's up to you how you want to do this. @StuntNun has a thread about how to combine fasting with low carb for anyone who is interested in this approach.

You can, if you wish, remain on Bootcamp, if it suits you and it's working for you. Alternatively you can adopt a hybrid - so Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whichever route you decide upon, good luck! Flowers

Nothing exciting food wise to add, been good, weight dropping, feeling good. However last night after several years of saying I can't hear I picked up my nhs hearing aids. Has the weirdest and most surreal shift, looked like a rabbit in head lights to start with and everything kept making me jump, the emergency phone was so loud and made me jump I knocked if off. Enjoyed actually being able to join on conversations.

@colouringindoors sorry your not feeling well.
@StuntNun I'm on my way over just trying to think of wha5 to say.

LondonJax · 20/05/2022 17:41

I am proud of myself today. A member of another team came in with some flapjacks and biscuits from a meeting. Though they looked lovely I said 'no'. But...it was because I was full after lunch! Miraculous!

Anyway, today's menu:

B- 2 eggs scrambled with butter and a small glug of cream, plus a coffee with cream. I don't usually have breakfast but I was starving today.

L - packed lunch of tomatoes, cucumber and 'salad' cheese (like feta but not salty) with a homemade pot of ranch dip.

D - will be a keto curry with microwave cauliflower rice (expensive for what it is but saves the mess and multiple pans as my DS and H will have normal rice. The curry basically has chicken marinated in Greek yoghurt and garam masala etc overnight. Then cooked in a tin of tomatoes with more garam masala, chilli, dry ginger, cumin and onions sautéed in butter, then cream to mellow it down a bit at the end. Made it a few weeks ago and was asked for seconds - which I didn't have but still!

Ollieharriet · 20/05/2022 18:29

I wore a pair of trousers today that were quite tight in February and felt fabulous 😂. Slight exaggeration but they fitted so much better! Had lovely roasted veg with halloumi cheese for dinner - absolutely delicious. Not really missing bread anymore which I can't believe as it was such a big part of my diet.

heliosfountain · 20/05/2022 18:36

Hey everyone, glad to hear everyone's news, all the NSVs, sugary food refusal and stories of clothes now fitting!

I went for a 5.2m walk yesterday, unheard of! My bum and legs are sore today!

Today's food:-

  • 3 x poached eggs on 1 slice buttered low carb toast with smoked salmon
  • homemade turkey burgers & homemade salsa

1.5l water (not enough for this time of day)

I am away this weekend with one of my DC for a special celebration so am anticipating 3 days of tricky food navigation/choices! Weighing in on Tuesday (not home until Monday eve) this week.

Lougle · 20/05/2022 19:11

Today my round up:
B - 2 poached eggs and 1 avocado
L - salad - iceberg lettuce, olives, cherry tomatoes, feta, cucumber, olive oil and cider vinegar (oh how I miss balsamic!)
D - belly pork, roasted cabbage and cavolo nero (all rolled in oil before roasting), deep fried celeriac chips.
Fluids 3x750 ml water, 6 cups of tea with almond milk.

RagzRebooted · 20/05/2022 19:20

@Mercedesbenz2022 I'm loving your mascara victory!

colouringindoors · 20/05/2022 20:07

thanks v much @Lougle and @ditavonteesed chicken curry and broccoli tonight.

Seems to have been a day for eggs - egg, mayo, lettuce, cuc, four cherry tomatoes for lunch for me. Very small handful peanuts this afternoon.

Jollyholibobs · 20/05/2022 20:25

@ditavonteesed interested in your hearing experience. Realise I need to do something about mine. In Shopping centre today I heard an announcement the ‘the centre is a mumble mumble environment and Easter Eggs are not allowed.’ After a bit of thought I have decided that it actually said ‘the centre is a no smoking environment and E cigarettes are not allowed.’

Happens all the time.

Hi had a read of the other thread @StuntNun but couldn't be bothered to engage as I feel like the OP was not going to change her mind and seemed very judgemental

After years of struggling with my weight, I now just accept that there are people in the world who are naturally thin and no matter 'I eat loads of carbs' they would be thin no matter what they eat. I have almost made peace with the fact that I am someone puts on weight easily and its not fair, but 🤷‍♀️ what can I do? Just KOKO!

Today I had 2 creamy coffees, haloumi salad with spinach, tomatoes cucumber and olive oil and lemon dressing. Had about 5 almonds (have just finished my 2 wks!) And about to have a chicken kyiv (parmesan crust) buttered asparagus and dressed salad. On track for 4L

StuntNun · 20/05/2022 20:56

@Jollyholibobs speech discrimination can be one of the first things to go with hearing loss. You can hear that there's a sound but you can't make out the words. It might be worth getting your hearing checked as the sooner you get hearing aids the better, if you need them. Without them your brain can permanently lose the ability to hear certain sounds or frequencies.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 20/05/2022 21:31

Full disclosure: just had 1/2 Square of Lindt 90%

APerfectlyGoodName · 20/05/2022 23:36

No news here just KOing.
B Baked eggs with spinch & feta. Creamy coffee,
L. Chicken ceaser
D. LC roll with ham chicken & coleslaw.
S. Herb tea 85% chocolate

mimosa1 · 21/05/2022 05:25

Good lunch with the tricky food choices @heliosfountain and hope you have a great trip.

I'm down almost 1lbs to 79.4 which I'm delighted about after a not wholly successful food choice or two during my trip earlier this week. I hope it sticks, and Im pleased I got back i the wagons quickly without it being an excuse for a week long binge.

Big day of sorting clothes, putting away winter gear and checking what summer stuff still fits the DC. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Baystard · 21/05/2022 07:15

Catching up after some busy work days.
Love the rhubarb recipes. Tried unsweetened stewed frozen rhubarb with cream last night but it was eye wateringly sour - full of admiration for @FinallyHere !

Great NSV @Mercedesbenz2022 and @Ollieharriet and very impressed the good choice about flapjack @LondonJax

Oh no @StuntNun I couldn't face all the calories-in-calories-out nonsense, I'll give them a wide berth🙈🙉

I thought I'd probably plateaued last week but I seem to have been hasty - the scales are still very gently moving down and I'm into another stone bracket for the last 3 days now. I think that's about 30lb lost since Christmas by cutting out processed and starchy carbs. NSV too in that I can fit into my slim trousers (just!).

I've had a minor planned-deviation yesterday when I tried a new tortilla wrap recipe for the family and felt as the cook I needed to at least try a mouthful to gauge whether it was a success on texture and seasoning. It was only a small piece and as a compromise and mindful of good advice upthread I gave the planned G&T a miss instead and otherwise did a very strict BC for the rest of the day.

B- black coffee
L- possibly eggs of some description
D- roast beef and lots of oven roast veggies

Baystard · 21/05/2022 07:18

Good job getting back onto the wagon @mimosa1 👏

Rshard · 21/05/2022 07:44

I saw that thread @StuntNun. made me laugh.

A fellow wearer of hearing aids here @ditavonteesed. hearing loss is often so gradual to fully hear again is quite startling as it makes you realise quite how bad it was.

love reading all the NSV’s, boot campers smashing it!

TheOnlyMrsW · 21/05/2022 07:46

Ugh what a day yesterday (anyone in exam season look away now) DD was given the wrong paper in her maths exam and no-one realised until after they had all finished 😡. On it's way to being sorted out but suffice to say I got very little actual work or house stuff done and felt crappy all day (hangover definitely didn't help, another reason to stay on the wagon).

Not enough water again through going backwards and forwards and after not falling face forwards into toast in the morning had a fairly major poppadom transgression with dinner 😢.

Plan today is yoghurt for breakfast, then a walk to finish the food shop while DD is at football. She has a gym induction straight after so I plan to catch up on missed work in the cafe and them home to carry on tidying.

Out again tonight for a gig with all 3 of us, I will drive to avoid the demon drink and have picked a restaurant for dinner first with an adaptable menu. Plan on beaucoup de water after I've finished my herbal tea.

I'm finding planning is absolutely key (won't be a surprise to anyone who isn't new to this) and nee to get my head back together. Happy weekend everyone 😊

colouringindoors · 21/05/2022 08:41

@TheOnlyMrsW oh god that sounds awful examwise!!

Weighed myself today - first time since Tue, am resisting urge to weigh daily and down 4lbs in first week which I'm vv pleased about esp with yesterday's triat sweets thtown in. Still not well. Can't remember the last time I wasn't fughting off some virus this year. Hoping this woe helps that too.

Good luck for the weekend everyone!

colouringindoors · 21/05/2022 08:41

Urgh apologies typos!

Mercedesbenz2022 · 21/05/2022 08:53

@colouringindoors thats a good loss , and we’ll done on resisting daily weighing
I have to weight daily , increases make me up my game and losses mean I’m on track , but I’ve stayed the same forever and today …. Drum roll …. I’ve lost 1.2 lb

that .2 counts as well

happy Saturday to me ! And to you all

I love reading when someone gives an update of their loss over a few months , @Baystard with over 30 lb loss that’s great , and gives me hope I can do it too

glamourousindierockandroll · 21/05/2022 09:25

I also love hearing from people who have been doing this a while. It's really inspiring.

I'm approaching the point at which I generally fall off the wagon so I'm using this thread and daily weighing to keep KOKO. I don't feel tempted or hard done by, but I hope that I know myself well enough to catch the "one day off won't do any harm" thinking, and not self sabotage. It's never just one day...

I'm down 4lbs overall now.

Jollyholibobs · 21/05/2022 09:29

@colouringindoors thats great progress.
I missed the other thread @StuntNun it had been taken down.
Not BC but currently preoccupied with what to wear. Success last night of a sort. Went clothes shopping. Have to accept that I am 2 sizes above most of my wardrobe atm. Need something to wear for a party next weekend. Bought a Whistles black linen jump suit. I already own a Whistles linen jumpsuit but new one is, em, bigger. Making small progress with weight loss but will feel better about myself if I have something that fits. I think it will see a lot of action. May also wear it to Chelsea flower show although still hoping to find a dress which doesn’t make me look like I am wearing my grannies nightie. I know this is not style and beauty but honestly I am despairing of current fashion as on the short, wide, big boobed nearly 60 me it’s a disaster and there are so few alternatives.

planning to clear out the bottom of the fridge and make detritus soup for lunch. Possibly celeriac steak for dinner. Will try and find a candidate for @BIWI recipe challenge too.

Jollyholibobs · 21/05/2022 09:30

@glamourousindierockandroll good going . keep it up.

BIWI · 21/05/2022 10:00

@Jollyholibobs the thread is still up - I've just posted on it! Here

I wasn't going to, as I suspect it wasn't started with the best of intentions - possibly one of the r eddit crew Hmm - but couldn't resist in the end!

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore “After years of struggling with my weight, I now just accept that there are people in the world who are naturally thin … no matter what they eat. I have almost made peace with the fact that I am someone puts on weight easily and its not fair, but 🤷‍♀️ what can I do?”

Oh I do so resonate with your words!
Despite a lifetime of watching my weight, I struggled as the years have passed. I hit early menopause due to chemo/radio at 39 (15 years ago so no help or discussion at all about menopause, just intimated that I was lucky to be alive and to get on with it!). Now I need to loose 4 stone. And I have found that VLC and IF is the only way to control my hunger and lose weight. Even then it is SO SLOW! I lost 1.5 stone last year but was exercising and cut out alcohol. Then a combination of travelling to help my deteriorating elderly father for days at a time, plus a new desk job on the other days, and back to having too much alcohol (😳), has seen the carb creep, albeit not a lot, and 1 stone on since November 🥲.

So I’ve found this thread to keep me from falling off the WOE! Keep up the good work everyone.

Interesting to observe my teenage DS1 & DS2. One has a naturally skinny build, can eat anything, the other takes after my side of the family - great physique (definitely not me now though 🤣) but only has to look at sweet stuff and carbs and on it goes! And, the carbs make him hungry, whereas the other is never hungry! It’s definitely a thing for some people.
It proved to me that these differences really do exist as I’ve seen first hand!! And it’s made me feel better about having to accept my physical makeup and that I just can’t eat CARBS if I want to loose or even maintain my weight.
I’ve also found IF to be the missing link for me, but can’t always manage it. I clearly have insulin resistance. I wish I’d known all of these things before piling on 4-5 stone.Oh well, let’s all keep onwards and downwards!

@mimosa1 Had planned to do exactly the same as you today - a huge clothes sort and clear out! Good luck.
