Week 2 - Jan 22 Low Carb Bootcamp Thread

BIWI · 23/01/2022 22:49

As I'm doing more and more often, I'm starting the next week's thread on a Sunday evening.

This is because, since I've retired, I am no longer controlled by the tyranny of my alarm clock, and so will often sleep too late on a Monday morning for all the keen Bootcampers!

I love the first post of week 2, because for all those who are new and/or are sceptics about low carbing, this is the point at which they may realise just how effective a low carb WOE can be.

Anyway, here is the spreadsheet, and I really look forward to seeing everyone's progress

4lb off here. I really haven't done it by the rules though. I was isolating all week so dependent on DH to bring me food and do everything else in the house. He did try but sometimes he just made toasties!

Anyway I'm free now and can take control of my food again.

EwanHoozami · 24/01/2022 09:28

Great losses, folks!

Thanks for the new thread, BIWI

Mimosa I have two pairs of gauge jeans. One pair will tell me that I'm doing pretty well, and another I've been hoarding since 2007 that will tell me that a miracle has occurred if I can do them up Grin

sheepdreams welcome, you'll soon be feeling SO much better - promise.

I've finished my meal plan for the week, incorporating tweaks for an in-training DH, veggie carb-fiend DS1 and ultra-picky and multiply-allergic DS2 Confused

Today:
B - chicken broth
L - tuna, watercress and avocado Big Salad
D - Cauliflower corned beef hash, gherkins, fried eggs

ChiefDogsbody · 24/01/2022 09:32

Morning everyone, 2lbs down this week which I'm pleased with, but 3cm off my waist and 2 off my hips so that's a great NSV (hope I'm using that correctly, I'm new ).

Also my skin is as smooth as a baby's bottom (which is more than can be said for my bottom) so taking that as a win too.

Need to concentrate on the water this week, that did slip a bit over the weekend when I was doing a lot of driving up and down the motorway. And thanks to the poster who recommended a McDs with a SLC roll- it was my first ever big mac and seriously underwhelming but it did the trick- will have to add more cheese and bacon next time!

RagzRebooted · 24/01/2022 09:38

@EwanHoozami I also have an old pair of miracle jeans (mine are from 2006, shortly after DS1 was born!) that I refuse to give up.

Only 1lb off for me, this is week 2 for me and I was 3lb down last week so still an average of 2lb a week. I've done this so many times that I think my body is used to it so don't get such dramatic losses. I've also had a lot of cream, so if it slows any more I'll drop that.

Purpletomato · 24/01/2022 09:44

I've lost 3lb which I'm happy with as I started 8th Nov, took 10 days off for Christmas and restarted when school returned in Jan so it's not week 1 for me. Probably overate on cheese for a couple of days this week as I was having a very bad period but I didn't hit the chocolate and I visited friends and said no to cake which is better willpower than I usually manage. 27lb overall.

ShangPie · 24/01/2022 09:50

Made breakfast and realised midway through that I was 100% not allowed it Blush

Got a bit carried away with the almond flour chat in the last thread and decided almond flour pancakes would be just the thing. Then slowly the almond = nut penny dropped. Sad face all round.

On the plus side, I only had 2 small ones before I realised so the rest are in the freezer ready for BC Lite Grin

ilovecherries · 24/01/2022 09:57

Well, after a week sitting on the loo I’ve lost the grand total of 1lb! However, I’ve convinced myself that 1lb was solid fat rather than water to cheer myself up.

H1Drangea · 24/01/2022 09:58

One pound off , I’m pleased !
It all counts

ShangPie · 24/01/2022 09:59

Also, meant to ask @StuntNun about electrolytes - I am finding that water goes straight through me in about 30 mins (and I mean straight through - I have about 45 seconds to dash to the loo Confused)

Mostly I am drinking water with lemon and a shake of Lo Salt, as I thought this was enough. Will the fancy powder really make a difference?

Hereforthedramaz · 24/01/2022 10:05

Whoo very happy with my 2lbs off!

EwanHoozami · 24/01/2022 10:07

Scale recommendations, anyone?

I haven't weighed as my scales seem to have died. They're the third electronic set I've bought in a few years, so not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Are manual ones better, or can anyone suggest a great electronic model that isn't too ££?

3.2 lbs down for me and the weird thing is, I feel like I have lost a stone! I feel so much lighter as its all going from my fat tummy. In yoga now I don't feel like I'm suffocating in childs pose which is wonderful and I have more room to twist.
Also like ChiefDogsbody I have noticed my skin is so much softer, my elbows have dramatically transformed in a week, they were so dry and hard.
@StuntNun thank you for the tea info.

Icaru · 24/01/2022 10:11

7lbs down and my partner's mum already asked me if I lost weight. I do think I bloat hard with carbs though (both pcos and gluten sensitivity bad enough to give me a rash etc), so even with zero weight lost would probably look slimmer. Shame it's mostly water Grin

Already feeling better, not really hunger at dinner and have stopped snacking without thinking about. Bad side effect is period seems to have restarted itself two weeks after my last. Looks like the hormone rebalancing is freaking my body out.

Willlow · 24/01/2022 10:12

@EwanHoozami I use the Renpho electronic ones. I got them from amazon after seeing them recommended on a previous bootcamp. They synch with your phone so its quite satisfying to analyse your data and look back at your progress.

Icaru · 24/01/2022 10:12

I like the xiaomi smart scale (2 I think?) Or any with app connection since then it auto logs to your phone and produces a graph, which is nice to look at when you're struggling for motivation

NigellaAwesome · 24/01/2022 10:13

@pinknsparkly I think the issue with ordinary olive oil is that chemicals are used in the process of refining it.

1 1/2 points off this week, which I am delighted with as I was on week 3, and scales had been stubborn all week. That's a total of 11 pounds over 3 weeks.

Exciting news! My salopettes do up! I can't move, let alone sit down, but it is progress. I also means that in my photo below, y'all don't need to see my knickers Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 24/01/2022 10:19

Pleased with 3lbs down this week, but somehow sprained/strained my thumb before Sunday morning—seemingly while I slept Hmm— and yesterday was a huge school day about how useful it is to have an opposable thumb.

Fancy some tuna mayo on spinach salad? Oh, husband, please chop shallots and cornichon for me. Erm, and open the tuna with the can opener because I absolutely can’t.

While you’re at it, please chop this butternut squash, onion, chilli, and garlic for the soup I’m making. Thanks.

I draw the line at asking him to wipe for me after I wee…

APerfectlyGoodName · 24/01/2022 10:22

That's excellent Nigella.
Well I started on Sunday and meant Sunday to be my weigh day but I was up. Anyway down again this morning 2.4lbs so Monday it is.
This brings me under 170lbs. Goal this week is to get under 168lb as that is 12st.
Congratulations to all, from 1lb to 6lb. Onward.

StuntNun · 24/01/2022 10:28

@ShangPie are you drinking a lot of water at once? You need to sip it steadily through the day.

StuntNun · 24/01/2022 10:35

The Seriously Low Carb Loaf Mix is a game changer. A 920g loaf cost £5.99 plus two eggs which is £££ but much better value than their 290g ready-made loaf for £3.49 and you can have a normal sized sandwich! It is a whopping 10% carbs (regular bread is 45%) so not suitable for everyday consumption assuming you could afford it! but definitely just the job for if you're desperately missing a bacon sarnie or you need something subtly low carb as it looks like any other wholemeal bread.

Was that with a bread maker, Stunt?

And 10% vs 45% - sorry, grams per 100g or percentage of recommended daily carb intake (that doesn’t sound right but I don’t know), or is it the same thing?

Looks good. Agree—use sparingly!

Oh, and WATER WATER EATER y’all!!!

Even if it’s just a glut or two. You don’t have to down a whole glass.

Hopeislost · 24/01/2022 10:51

Great looking bread @StuntNun ! And impressive progress photos @NigellaAwesome !

3.5lbs off for me. I'm happy because it seems to mostly have come off my tummy and my jeans that were a bit tight are now comfortable! @Willlow that's one of the great things about this woe - it seems to attack belly fat (I have PCOS and am v insulin resistant so have plenty to attack!)

CrystalTits · 24/01/2022 11:06

3lbs down in week one. I am absolutely stunned and happy - it's the first time I've lost any weight after several attempts on different WOE in recent years, even with total compliance, thanks to all the hormonal shit going on in my body. Well done @AllTheBlackCoffee too and thank you for empathising with me last week - I was only 'allowed' 50mcg thyroxine but perhaps this time it's helped to make the difference and given my metabolism a bit of support.

My skin has definitely taken against the drop in sugar and starchy carbs and launched a protest though. I have had terrible eczema all my life, but it's really flaring around my eyes and on my hands at the moment. I think the drop in temperature and the central heating hasn't helped. Hoping that all. the. water. will flush it through...

Onwards and downwards; I'm so motivated by you all.

p.s. Thanks @StuntNun for the chocolate mousse suggestion - it was a big hit with my friends and so easy. I had a little and felt virtuous :)

Baystard · 24/01/2022 11:21

Wow @StuntNun for amazing bread and @NigellaAwesome for those pics, congratulations!

I had a sneaky weigh on Saturday and I'm actually heavier today but since I've eaten sensibly all weekend I'm putting it down to my hormones and retaining a bit of water today. Feeling the cold today too - my office is fairly warm but my hands and feet are very cold and my tummy has been rumbling, uncharacteristically. As an intermittent faster I was planning to have a longer fast today but I think I'll leave it until later in the week.

Plan for today

B - black coffee
L - avacado (or two!) And a boiled egg.
D - something with LC cheese sauce to give my fats a boost - ham possibly, with green beans and cauliflower. Maybe another boiled egg.

I'm struggling a bit with the FLGV to be honest, even when hungry i find it unappealing at the moment and I find my digestion far more settled without it, more than a small quantity gives me dreadful indigestion. I'm going to listen to my body for a bit (now that it's stopped obsessing about carbs Grin ) and take a multivitamin and see how it goes. I've also recently gone right off mushrooms which used to be a favourite but I'd give my arm for an avacado Grin

namechange5575 · 24/01/2022 11:57

7lbs off today! I'm very pleased with that. I usually lose 5lbs in the first week, so I had reason to suspect it would be good. We m also doing yoga with Adriene which I think has bumped up my metabolism. Well done everyone!
