Week 2 - Jan 22 Low Carb Bootcamp Thread

BIWI · 23/01/2022 22:49

As I'm doing more and more often, I'm starting the next week's thread on a Sunday evening.

This is because, since I've retired, I am no longer controlled by the tyranny of my alarm clock, and so will often sleep too late on a Monday morning for all the keen Bootcampers!

I love the first post of week 2, because for all those who are new and/or are sceptics about low carbing, this is the point at which they may realise just how effective a low carb WOE can be.

Anyway, here is the spreadsheet, and I really look forward to seeing everyone's progress

Flowers for us all

I've not weighed in yet but will do later on after I've dropped my daughter at nursery but I'm checking in as she was up from midnight to 4am last night (then back up from 6). A similar amount of limited sleep caused me to call face first into carbs last Tuesday (day TWO of bootcamp!). I'm checking in here for accountability to try and ensure I don't do the same today. It does mean that fasting went out the window at 4am (cheese) and I think the day may contain several cups of coffee with double cream but I'll keep it low carb!

foxlover47 · 24/01/2022 07:54

Morning all
Well done everyone on your losses🙌 3lb off for me , first positive Monday morning I've had in a while !

ElasticFirecracker · 24/01/2022 07:56

@DollyDingleberry

Morning all! 5lbs off for me this week, I’m chuffed to bits!

My weight loss graph tells the story of WW (first 2 weeks of the year) vs LCHF pretty nicely Grin

That is excellent. The graph must be very rewarding.
DearZoom · 24/01/2022 07:58

8lbs off and into a new stone bracket (by 0.5lb Grin)
So lovely seeing everyone’s losses this morning and looking forward to spending week two with you all.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 24/01/2022 08:00

Good morning! Thanks for the new thread BIWI Thanks

1.8 pounds down, which I'm pleased with, as I'm quietly doing BC Lite at the weekend. Also, I'm on week three!

Lovely to see all the losses so far. Have a great day everyone!

ouchmyfeet · 24/01/2022 08:08

Morning all, 3lbs off for me. Would have been pleased with that if I hadn't had a sneaky mid week weigh in with 5lbs off! Fully deserved the gain as I had a drunken night out on Thursday and then couldn't resist the cakes at MIL's birthday afternoon tea on Saturday but 3lbs is okay and I have 2 clear weeks now with minimal socialising.

psed · 24/01/2022 08:08

Did quite badly at the weekend. Had some bad news and drunk way too much Friday night, which meant a hungover Saturday of bread, bread and more bread. Only lost a lb so a bit bummed out by that. At least I recognised I felt rubbish so can learn from it and move forwards. Well done everyone else that’s doing better than me.

ElasticFirecracker · 24/01/2022 08:11

I'm reporting a 3lb gain. So a week since joining Bootcamp, I now weigh more than I did after Xmas.

But I know why: my eating was terrible. I had too much to do and my organisation and planning skills, which are always my very weak spots, just abandoned me. Found myself away from home and tired with no suitable food several times, ate crisps, ate crackers, ate jacket potatoes. Even porridge with honey, and I can't even remember the last time I had that. It was before the first bootcamp I did which was last April.

This is the most carby I've been for months, and I really don't feel good. I have fuzzy head and am feeling down in the dumps.

So here I am starting again this week. Ready with hard boiled eggs, artichoke hearts in oil, and olives for lunch. Will try to get as much water in as early as possible.

Dinner will be something involving kale.

Well done everyone who has lost this week.

Fleecy · 24/01/2022 08:13

Only a solitary lb off for me this week (I've done two weeks) but added to last week's 6lbs that's still half a stone. And I've got my period, so I'd normally go up a bit.

mistywillow17 · 24/01/2022 08:17

Morning all, 3.4 pounds down, which is great. I had to have a stern word with myself as I was initially disappointed as the scales have stayed the same since Thursday.

I have a lot of weight to lose, so was secretly hoping for a bigger number, but at the end of the day, 3.4 pounds is more than I have lost in months, let alone a week! Maybe I will get a whoosh in the next couple of days.

Well done everyone on getting through the first week, it should start getting easier now.

mistywillow17 · 24/01/2022 08:18

Oh, and I've decided to call it "a quarter of a stone" rather than 3.4 pounds. Sounds more impressive.

Benvolio · 24/01/2022 08:35

Modest loss for me, I think 2lbs. Not on spreadsheet.

ParisNext · 24/01/2022 08:42

@BIWI

My pleasure ParisNext! How have you found the first week?
4 pounds down and not too bad apart from Covid dh and youngest dd at home requiring constant snacky sandwich bits as either ill or can’t taste. Torture as crisps etc are my nemesis. Also hard to focus on WOE when not clear head or space! My spreadsheet entry has centre justified, making me look as though I think I’m rather more important than other people…I can’t change it as on a phone and it’s embarrassing so hopefully it will go away when all the numbers are logged - sorry Blush
sheepdreams · 24/01/2022 08:49

Hi all

I’m a little bit late in starting. Just read through all of last weeks posts. They are a great source of information, support and inspiration. I am a carb addict and more recently have turned into a sugar monster. Enough is enough! My aim is to lose weight but more importantly for me to feel healthier and more energised. My sleep is dreadful and I feel exhausted most of the time despite Walking a lot, generally keeping active.

I have also become more dependent on caffeine because of the tiredness so Hopi g to reduce this considerably. The level of flatulence I experience can’t be healthy! So overall I will also be very interested not just in the weight loss but also the NSV in terms of feeling healthier.

Wishing everybody a great week.

Onelittlepiglet · 24/01/2022 08:49

Morning all, I did week 3 last week and also started my period so no loss this week I’m afraid. We’ve been isolating because DH has Covid too (we are overseas and the rules here are we all have to isolate for a week). No exercise or fresh air and have been feeling pretty down in the dumps and fed up. But carrying on and eating well and on plan. Plus drinking loads of water and no alcohol so that is good.

Mimosa1 · 24/01/2022 08:51

Reporting a 2.9kg loss this week. I had a FaceTime with my brother who wouldn't normally recognise anything different and he commented on how well I looked so I'm taking that as a NSV.

Other NSV is that I only has 2 diet cokes this week. I know they're verboten during Bootcamp but I'm seriously addicted and had got into the habit of having many cans a day. I know it's awful for you so I'm trying really hard and I'm pleased with how it's gone so far.

Finally I've found a too small pair of jeans in my wardrobe which I shall be using a gauge. If I'm feeling brave, I'll post pics later.

Many thanks @BIWI and @StuntNun and @ouchmyfeet and everyone who runs the BC.

Frenchpoodle · 24/01/2022 08:52

Well done on all the losses everyone Star
I’m starting today, family visit and a holiday meant that last week wasn’t going to be a good start week. Had been keeping to LC and IF previously, so more or less on track.
Today’s food:
L - baked broccoli and avocado salad
D - Saag paneer with spiced roasted broccoli

BIWI · 24/01/2022 08:57

Fixed that for you @ParisNext!

3.4lb loss for me! Which takes me quite comfortably into the 60kg range (69kg). I don't think I've been a 60 something kg in over a decade Grin it's quite unexpected to be honest as I don't feel any different, have been utterly exhausted, only really started upping my water intake on Friday and haven't really left the house this week. So the only "right" thing I've done is avoid carbs!

BIWI · 24/01/2022 08:59

Some great losses here - and especially good to see those in week 3 continuing to lose Flowers

And now for the bossy bit:

Please, please, please read all the posts on the thread before you post. It's very obvious when people haven't done this, and does get very wearing having to repeat things or link, again, to things that have already been linked.

Well done everyone, I'm 4lb off so I'm really pleased with that ! I am feeling a bit better already although I need to up my water and perhaps expand my recipe repertoire a bit to avoid boredom.

L is probably something involving eggs and dinner is going to be chicken curry skewers with lots of veg and cauliflower rice. It's great to see everyone's loss and proof this woe can work

BestIsWest · 24/01/2022 09:02

Morning all, just checking in.

StuntNun · 24/01/2022 09:08

@kirstyr455 low carb sent my IBS into remission. I only have problems now if I eat wheat.

@SweetPotatoDumpling I find adding electrolyte powder to my water helps it to be absorbed rather than going right through me.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 24/01/2022 09:12

My day:

B: 2 x soft boiled eggs
L: roast chicken salad
D: homemade cream of broccoli and blue cheese soup

Plus all of the water. 0.5 litres down already.

pinknsparkly · 24/01/2022 09:15

Following on from the chat at the end of the last thread about the best oils to cook with, is anyone (@StuntNun perhaps?) able to explain to me (or point me in the direction of some information about) why cold pressed rapreseed oil is ok but "normal" rapeseed oil isn't? I've heard this with olive oil (EVOO being much better for you than "normal" olive oil) but I don't understand the science behind it! My brain can't really figure out why being pressed once makes the oil ok, but being pressed multiple times makes it bad. Or have I completely misunderstood how they are processed? Unfortunately I have to sort of brain that likes to know the science behind why something is good or bad before it sinks in and becomes a habit I adopt!
