Is anybody interested in a January Low Carb Bootcamp?

The last one was pretty quiet, so I'm trying to gauge how many would be interested in a January one - probably starting around the middle of the month.

You need to add your name to the list on the sign-up thread @oscarandelliesdad!

Quick question if I can, are the seriously low carb bread rolls and loaves allowed during the first couple of weeks of bootcamp? Or the lo-dough pizza bases? I'm in the office a couple of days a week and could do with an easy lunch and quick dinner combo on those days! Thanks!

BIWI · 09/01/2022 16:44

Yes they are, @TidyDancer

BIWI · 09/01/2022 16:44

... although I should add the caveat about them being highly processed, which we are trying to avoid, generally!

TidyDancer · 09/01/2022 16:46

Oh fab, thanks @BIWI! I don't want to rely on them as such, but I know how my mind works and I'd rather have them as back up than to fall off the wagon entirely lol.

BIWI · 09/01/2022 16:49

(Lo-Dough is less processed than the bread, however).

As I said to @byebyecarbs, though, it's a good idea to find meal solutions that aren't mimicking a high carb, bread-based food - because otherwise when Bootcamp is finished and/or you go back to 'normal' eating, you'll simply be going back to eating bread, which isn't a great idea, on a regular basis

@TidyDancer cheeseburger pie is handy for packed lunches.

MrsHinge · 10/01/2022 06:54

Can I join please?
I have Covid at the moment and not eating much but really need to get some weight off this year.

Thanks BIWI hopefully on the mend. Really lost my appetite and can't taste much any way. I've been living off soup so far but am going to try and use it as a bit of a reset point and make sure what I am eating is decent.

Witchymcwitch · 11/01/2022 13:36

I shall be following this.
Need to lose 3st ideally. My blood pressure is going up, I have bad arthritis and none of my clothes fit!
Need to get organised and on it before my health suffers even more Sad

Just signed up as I forgot to do it.

I was wondering if there’s a thread with some meal suggestions? What’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Gardening season starts soon so that will be my workout soon I hope. Right now I’m sitting on my fat arse 😳

Ordered some clothes today as I hardly fit into anything.

NigellaAwesome · 12/01/2022 21:07

I've made a bit of a start already as I had to do something. I've lost 9lbs in a week, and feeling great that I am off booze. I'm looking forward to all the chat once it starts proper.

BIWI · 13/01/2022 09:23

Wow! 9lbs is amazing. What a great start Flowers

StuntNun · 13/01/2022 14:41

@FrenchBoule here are some meal ideas to get you started.

Breakfasts
Scrambled eggs
Omelette
Bacon and eggs
Avocado and smoked salmon
Full-fat Greek yogurt (should be 10% fat) – add a little double cream and/or vanilla essence for sweetness
“Egg in a cup” (boiled eggs mashed with butter in a mug)
Leftovers from the night before

Lunches
Salad with oil and vinegar vinaigrette and/or mayo
Low carb soup (there are plenty of recipes on the recipe threads)
Omelette or frittata
Scrambled eggs (if you didn’t have them for breakfast!)

Dinners
Curry with cauliflower rice
Shepherd’s pie topped with mashed swede
Sausages and celeriac mash
Courgetti bolognese
Bunless burger or cheeseburger plus salad
Cauliflower or Fathead pizza
Cheeseburger pie
Any “meat and two veg” meal with extra veggies instead of potatoes plus don’t forget to add fat by cooking your veg in olive oil or adding butter afterwards

Vegetable side dishes
Roasted broccoli
Braised cabbage
Cauli rice
Celeriac mash (can add leek fried in butter)
Celeriac chips
Braised celery
Courgettes
Green beans
Kale
Leeks
Mushrooms
Shoogled sprouts
Swede/turnip

Snacks
Boiled eggs (I like to boil extra at breakfast and keep some in the fridge for snacks with a little mayo)
Celery and cucumber sticks with cream cheese as a dip
Ham and cream cheese roll ups (spread a slice of ham with cream cheese and roll into a tube)
Peperami or other cured meat
String cheese or other snack cheese
Nuts or dark chocolate – only on Bootcamp Light and only in small quantities

FrenchBoule · 13/01/2022 19:02

Wow, that’s quite a lot, thanks @StuntNun 🙂

Made myself some veg soup for lunch today but it contained some carrots and peas (beside onion, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and sprouts)

Dinner was steamed salmon with salad with honey, mustard and olive oil dressing.

I really struggle with portion control.

Today was a nice day and could have gone outside to do some jobs but decided to do some housekeeping instead.

I’m so lazy when it comes to physical exercise Sad

BIWI · 13/01/2022 19:51

@FrenchBoule I know we haven't started Bootcamp yet, but I have to ask you - was the honey really necessary in your dressing?

But also, hopefully to make you feel better, exercise is not necessary for weight loss!

I hope it's not too late to join? Looking to lose 3-4 stone and need to curb my carb cravings

borowren · 13/01/2022 21:48

Is it too late to join?
Really need a kick start!

prettybird · 13/01/2022 21:50

@borowren @Cornishbelle - see my post at 13.44 with the link to the Sign Up thread. Smile

FrenchBoule · 13/01/2022 22:52

@BIWI hmmm… difficult question. I suppose mustard on its own would taste a bit strange.
I made a bowl of salad and shared it with DH. I thought I would have a gentle transition this week.

About veg on the red list- is the aim to eliminate them completely or can they be eaten in small quantities? Not fussed about fruit to be honest but bought 2 melons.
What about curd/cottage cheese? I think carbs are between 3-4g per 100g is it allowed?
What about portion sizes? I’m happy with 2 eggs for breakfast but could do another one to avoid snacking before lunch?

I just need to change my habbits I suppose [heavy sigh]

venusandmars · 14/01/2022 17:44

@FrenchBoule I feel a bit sad Sad at your heavy sigh. Yes a change of habits but one that at times is delightful. The joy of eating pork belly (tonight's dinner) with an array of veg with butter. It looks bright and colourful and doesn't leave me hungry.

2 eggs for breakfast is great. And yes, why not have 3 or boil some extra to have for snacking. Portion size becomes important if you've 'stalled' (for a long time) or if you are very close to your target weight, and if you are eating any carbier food items.

Re: veg on the red list, I avoid as much as possible, but if something had a few peas in it, I'd not pick them out. I wouldn't choose corn on the cob as a starter but if a pre-prepared salad had a few kernels of corn I'd ignore it. I add a bit of carrot for colour sometimes, but not much. The challenge is not having 'just a little bit' at every meal, every day.

I'd avoid the melon.
