2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

Weighed in this morning ( hope DDs scales weigh the same as mine ! )
And thanks to @ShagMeRiggins tip I have measured
Wrists are 6.25 inches
Waist 33 and hips 39
2 glasses of water down , long train journey back home today and Bootcamp starts tomorrow ( water bottle will be taken on journey )

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/10/2021 09:18

Good morning.

I hope you new low-carbers slept ok. I seem to remember having trouble sleeping when I first started.

I'd really let the water drinking slip, so I re-downloaded the Waterlogged app, to help me focus. It worked!

Very impressed by the rugby, Prettybird. It must be a fantastic whole body work-out. I prefer non-contact sport, personally: I bruise like a peach.

I really found myself craving dark chocolate yesterday. I definitely eat too much of it, so it's a very good thing I'm following some strict rules for a couple of weeks. It's such a good reset.

Very grey & blustery today, but I rather like it. Speaking of which, are any of you doing the Christmas Chronicles read-along? It's very cosy!

BIWI · 19/10/2021 09:41

Morning all!

So glad so many of you are coming out of the lurking shadows. It's great to have some new victims people posting. It's not that I don't love all of us old regulars, but it can feel a bit cliquey sometimes if no-one else is posting.

And it's always good to get to know other posters too!

I'm trying the celeriac curry tonight, so will report back. I'm hoping it will be delicious as a) I love celeriac and b) I love curry.

@Jollyholibobs Thank you for that link and @QueenDanu, good to know I'm not alone in the fight to resist the evils of Diet Coke. Strange that it's so hard to kick the habit- I know it contains caffeine but I think it's more than that.

ouchmyfeet · 19/10/2021 09:57

I might try that too if I have the ingredients BIWI.

Need to catch up on the Christmas chronicles thread MilesJuppIsMyBitch, I am enjoying it but the pressure to read every day will get me when it gets going I think !

We had the last of a HelloFresh box last night which I'd intended to have substituting cabbage for noodles. When I got to it the stir fry sauce had a load of honey in it so my portion got a random assortment for its sauce: mainly soy with a bit of fish sauce and a blob of chilli sauce (not sweet chilli but probably too much sugar regardless). It was surprisingly nice!

Plan for today is more cheeseburger pie for lunch (again with fried buttery veg) and tea is to be decided. Plenty in the cupboards though so I have low carb options.

I also find the waterlogged app really good. I paid for it after it was recommended by a poster on here and it really helps me get through my 4 litres.

I’m starting today as I hate beginning things on a Monday and failing. So Tuesday is going to be for the win! At work so will
Weigh myself here and update the scary numbers for accountability. Had lovely scrambled egg and bacon (no fat) with tomatoes for breakfast as am on a 12.5 hour shift. Brought salad with chicken for my second break and olives with feta to snack on- is that okay?
Hope all going well for everyone else.

JumperandJacket · 19/10/2021 09:59

My meals have been a bit patchy so far as it's a busy time but reasonably low carb- yesterday I had boiled eggs for breakfast, some bolognese (just the sauce) and cheese with a big green salad with oo for lunch and an omelette and big mixed salad and oo for dinner (very eggy day but I got in at 10.30pm after the theatre so needed something quick).

Today it's boiled eggs again (must think about breakfast veg), steak and a big salad again for lunch. Kids want Nandos for dinner- I'm thinking a chicken butterfly with homemade salad can't be too bad?

Why no fat?! This is a high fat WOE.

Please tell me you have an oily dressing and/or some mayonnaise to put on your salad?

@MerylSqueak - very sorry to hear about Covid. Hopefully you won't be too poorly, and it will pass soon. Flowers

Morning all. Celeriac curry is on my plan for later this week.

Just had a minor investigative medical procedure at a hospital a long way from home. 30 miles awkward drive will take over an hour. Local hospital is in a different NHS area so I can’t go there. Feeling a bit shaky. Just trying to calm down in the car. Wishing I had brought DH to drive. Reading the aftercare it says no exercise for 2-3 weeks.

Plan for today
Lunch - big salad with Avacado, nice cheese and homemade Mayo
Dinner- Pizza using portabello mushroom as a base and coleslaw.

Would normally seek out tra and cake on the way home as consolation for a nasty experience at the hospital but not feeling the urge.Halo

Have a great day everyone.

ShagMeRiggins · 19/10/2021 10:08

Out of interest, why no fat, LowlyThe Worm? This is a low carb high fat (LCHF) way of eating.

Did it come already trimmed, did you trim the fat, did the fat make a break for it...? So many questions.

The Nando’s sounds absolutely fine. Must admit I don’t get the love, but can’t deny it’s extremely popular with my children!

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/10/2021 10:08

@JumperandJacket studies have shown that aspartame is incredibly addictive. And aspartame poisoning and aspartame withdrawal real and pretty darn horrible

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/10/2021 10:10

Thanks for you, @Jollyholibobs

Rayna37 · 19/10/2021 10:12

I loved the Waterlogged App to track water but use my Garmin smartwatch now. I may try using the app on weekends though instead of just ignoring the water intake

I've also gone back to the Zero fasting app to demotivate snacking after dinner. I know I see better results from having a longer gap between dinner and breakfast.

ShagMeRiggins · 19/10/2021 10:13

H1Drangea yay, another measurer! You’ll be gloating in a few weeks when everyone wishes they’d done it. Grin

Jollyholibobs are you calmer now? Please don’t drive if you’re feeling shaky. Flowers

And don’t worry about no exercise allowed—remember Bootcamp doesn’t need exercise for weight loss. That’s for toning, shape, and general fitness.

BestIsWest · 19/10/2021 10:21

I’m also a measurer rather than a weighed though I won’t post my measurements. I have lost 4 inches from my hips and waist now - still loads to go though.
Flowers jolliholibobs. Well done on avoiding the cake.

venusandmars · 19/10/2021 10:33

@Glenthebattleostrich There's a phrase 'don't drink your calories' so make sure that your tea (especially with cream and coconut oil) is in small quantities and doesn't fill you up. You should be getting lots of healthy nutrition from your main meals and you wouldn't want to be feeling full from your snacks and cut down on veg...

I try to have vegetables early in the day. So avocado for breakfast -apologies lovely world for the air-miles-- or a plate of buttery asparagus with parmesan cheese, or omlette with left-over green veg from the previous day. Sometmes I have creamy vegetable soup (chicken stock, shallot, all the bits of green veg, whizzed up with butter and topped with a swirl of cream and a grating of nutmeg). It's lovely on a cold winter morning, and I usually have lots in the freezer, so pretty easy to do.

Today's food:
B - left-over avocado salsa, salad, cheese, sour cream
L - left-over chicken fajitas (no fajita) with roasted cauliflower
D - omelette with whatever comes in the veg box, there will be something spinach-y, and probably courgettes...

Tomorrow I am looking after my dgc. I promised them we would have 'apple festival' what was I thinking?! We're doing an apple identification game, dooking for apples, making apple juice, eating pork and apple sausages (I'll have some non-apple ones), apple and bramble pie. I'll see if they can write an apple poem or story. Any other ideas welcome.

felippertyfeck · 19/10/2021 10:53

Hi everyone

Thank you BIWI and Ouchmyfeet.

I've weighed and measured and drunk water quota so feeling very pleased with myself. Thank you for the reminders ShagMeRiggins when you said "drink water" I physically got up and went to the sink poured two massive glasses!! .

Drinking enough water is an issue I've got to work on, especially at work, as I hate using the toilet there!!

Looking forward to getting back on track, weight is slowly creeping back on and from what I can see if I didn't come back to this way of eating I would be back to my starting weight by spring, again.

Prettybird, what an inspiration and a fantastic picture.

Have a great day everyone :)

Happymama24 · 19/10/2021 11:09

Hi Everyone, totally new here. I have had a look at spreadsheet and will sign up. Thanks for all the information, rules etc. It's great to have it all written down.
I am wondering how often do you weigh in? I read through but may have missed it , currently have a toddler climbing all over me😅 thank you

Jollyholibobs · 19/10/2021 11:09

@venusandmars what a great gran you are! Paint or draw and apple still life. My mental health benefits from exercise I know it does little for weight loss.

Jollyholibobs · 19/10/2021 11:11

@Happymama24 welcome. Those of us who put weight on the spreadsheet update weekly on Mondays. But some people prefer a different day for various reasons which is no problem.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/10/2021 11:13

To make the apple poem easier, yo7 can start them off with an acrostic. So:

Apples are round
Plenty of crunch
Pies, juice and more
Lots of fun bobbing
Each one is different
Savour each mouthful

That kind of thing.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/10/2021 11:14

Also, Pinterest always have themed crosswords, colouring, dot-to-dot. You can print them out an activity sheet.

TrueGrit54 · 19/10/2021 11:17

Happymama24 I’m new too, pretty sure it’s a weekly weigh in on Mondays, lots of people weigh every day (up to you) but the spreadsheet is weekly. You don’t have to do spreadsheet if you don’t want to and you don’t have to put your weight if you don’t want to, you can index it so 100 is starting weight …

Slept terribly, always do when I give up the booze, usually go to bed gently sozzled and sleep straight away. Got 3 hours. But I am newly retired and have teenagers so it is of no real consequence. Have a good day everyone.
