Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

I tried that one BIWI but am very clumsy, so it mainly ended up on the bathroom mirror Grin

At least it's not raining as much now!

I imagine some people will be having radically different styles post lockdown!

Nateismine · 15/04/2021 19:27

I'm stuffed. What sort of diet is this? Just cooked chicken Alfredo-was amazing and the kids loved it too.
Are we allowed to eat until we are 'stuffed' or do we need to show restraint?

nowlook · 15/04/2021 19:33

I think eat until you're satisfied Nateismine rather than bursting.

Unless it's Alfredo, in which case stuffing is almost unavoidable Grin

Doilooklikeatourist · 15/04/2021 19:47

Made this really nice duck dish for dinner ( say that quickly five times )
Used frozen sprouts , and swapped the spices for cumin seeds , chilli flakes and smoked paprika ketodietapp.com/Blog/lchf/spiced-duck-and-brussels-sprout-tray-bake

I've spent the last couple of years growing out my greys. They're now almost as long as my shoulder length hair. I can't imagine colouring it again although I do think it's aging (I'm 43)

Eat until satisfied - not until you're stuffed!

A high fat diet will mean that you're satiated relatively quickly.

Hideous? You don't know the meaning of the word!

I’ve embraced the grey. Chopped it short then grew it out during lockdown. Liked it short so have kept it.

B Boiled eggs mashed with butter
L. Tuna mayo and salad
D. Bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and asparagus.

Snack of Greek yoghurt.

2 herb teas, 1 coffee w cream, 1 tea w sugar free almond milk. On my 4th litre of water.

I got some 100% chocolate for us all to try, and me have...out of seven of us I like it and so does the four year old, bless her. Least it means it’s safe out in the open around the teens 😂. 1 small square with a cuppa will do me fine when/if my monthly cycle craves chocolate. Funny how entrenched sweetness habits can go so quickly.

BIWI · 15/04/2021 20:31

I've been having highlights/my hair coloured for years now, so it was a real shock during the first lockdown to realise just how grey I really am! Only 8 days to go till my appointment though Smile

Hello, really struggling with carb cravings this evening.

I have eaten:

Cooked cheese crackers spread with cream cheese.

More of the same with cucumber

Dinner: cauliflower pizza with mushrooms cooked with garlic and butter. With lettuce, cucumber, watercress spinach & rocket.

I've drunk black tea, green tea and coffee. And quite a lot of water but can't remember how much. I've been peeing a lot.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 15/04/2021 20:40

In no particular order:

apples - brainwashed inspired by the chat, have reinstated my bare root order for the Autumn - russets, pippins, quarrendens, plus 2 plums, a medlar, a mulberry, and a greengage

@MotherBuckets, you're on!

cuba libre - i loved my local. to think, i used to dance in bars Confused

roots - not died so don't have them. do have a feck of lot more silver coming through than last year though. I yes, I mean silver in my gold hair

satiety - yes, mine's kicking in today. feeling less... squidgy

Go fuss about making a herbal tea (or similar). Then make a big deal about sitting drinking it.

Is it definitely carb cravings? In which case, distract as example above.

If you're genuinely hungry, then possibly your dinner was low in fat. Have some cheese, or yoghurt - what do you have in the fridge that could conceivably be called a second course, that is high in fat?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 15/04/2021 20:44

... oh, and a crab apple

(brain fried from just finishing work)

Patapouf · 15/04/2021 20:48

I've found things strange today. Not hungry at breakfast so boiled two eggs to have a desk-breakfast when I got hungry. Forgot all about them til nearly 12, so they ended up being kind-of lunch. After eating them I had no thoughts about food whatsoever all afternoon, contrary to my usual restless craving.
Went for a run after work and felt like shit. Barely enough energy to keep jogging. Then felt light-headed and even nauseous while stretching and taking a bath (even though I definitely ate a normal amount of food yesterday). Really faint and yucky. Had to have an emergency forbidden banana to relieve the faintness (sorry - it was only a little one).

Made dinner of salmon and vast cabbage portion with butter, and gradually started to feel better. Still have no urge at all to snack, whereas my evenings are usuallly spent wandering back and forth to the kitchen, grazing on this and that.

It is striking how different I feel, in both good ways (satiated despite a low-calorie day) and bad ways (tired, faint, etc, before dinner).

Something is definitely going on in my body.

venusandmars · 15/04/2021 20:59

Hair:
As a child I was blonde,
As a teenager I had 'fair hair' - sort of light brown

Mid life I experimented with various colour after my dc told me my hair was the colour of a wild rabbit i.e. sort of a nothing / grey / brown (albeit very soft to the touch)

Age 50 I stopped all the colouring and reverted to 'whatever'
I'm very fortunate to have my dm's genes and mostly have my original mouse / rabbit hair colour.

What is interesting is that when my hair bleaches naturally in the sun, the pale hair and the grey hair are indistinguishable. So I now look blonder than I have for many years...

Only one week to go till my hair appointment to get the rats tails trimmed off the ends... But I hate the whole sitting in front of a mirror looking at myself, noticing another year's worth of wrinkles and blemishes.

Random789 · 15/04/2021 21:01

@AthelstaneTheUnready, Yay! about the fruit tree purchases. They sound lovely. I hope you enjoy planting and growing them, and eating the fruit.

BIWI · 15/04/2021 21:10

@Random789 you may feel odd, but all that is a sign that you're moving away from burning carbs for fuel to burning fat - which is what we want!

But you need to take care that you're getting the right electrolyte balance, as I've posted about before.

Exercise at this point will be difficult, so take it easy. It will be fine once you're adapted to this WOE, and you may even find that your performance is better than when you were eating a high carb diet.
