April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

 1. Eat three meals a day
 2. Avoid processed foods
 3. Eat lots of fat
 4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
 5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
 6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
 7. No alcohol
 8. No fruit
 9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Also a perfect illustration of FLGV!👍👍

ListenLinda · 15/04/2021 13:41

Just checking in but not much to add today! Hope everyone is having a lovely day and you all drink the water! Grin

FusionChefGeoff · 15/04/2021 13:46

It was sooooooooo good!! Never thought to eat raw courgettes. Definitely going to be a regular feature.

I hope my 'story' resonates and helps others the same way it did for me.

It's the CIIIIIIIIIIRRRCLE of life, it's the wheel of fortune.....

FusionChefGeoff · 15/04/2021 13:47

@ListenLinda made me think if @shagmeriggins isn't on this BC should we hold elections for the replacement for Water Champion???!

BustleInYourHedgerow · 15/04/2021 13:56

Hi all. I am so behind on the thread and haven't chatted to anyone sorry. How in the heck do you bookmark? I use a browser on my phone and can't see it, do I need to use the app?

Also looking for some advice. DS has had a stomach bug the last few days and now I have it too. I had a horrendous night with vomiting and diarrhoea eaten two broghies so far today (5g carbs each) . Obviously normally I would have plain crackers or banana or rice if I was unwell like this but I'm at a loss what I could have this evening. Would plain scrambled with no butter be ok?

Ninkanink · 15/04/2021 13:56

@FusionChefGeoff I always have courgetti raw - it’s much nicer, IMO, because it does a tendency to go mushy if you’re not very, very careful. It’s excellent with a good tomato sauce and gives a good crunch/resistance in the way that pasta does.

@BustleInYourHedgerow Just looked at Mumsnet on my phone, using Safari. At the bottom right of each post is a little icon and the word 'Bookmark' next to it.

Are you using a different browser?

Just so food pics & I'll catch up later.
I think it's very important not to feel deprived, so I try to make food interesting.
This is yesterday's breakfast, mushrooms scallion courgette, cooked in oven. I added 3 eggs & grated cheese, at the end.
I overcooked it so it wasn't beautiful but delish.

This is today's lunch. Leftover greens, pre cooked chicken, coleslaw.

Sorry - I also meant to respond to your query about food this evening! Really sorry to hear you're ill. Horrible! In the circumstances, I'd say just eat what you feel you can cope with. Make sure you're properly hydrated, and also think about your electrolytes, as those will be depleted too if you're suffering from D&V. (In that context, a banana probably isn't a bad thing!)

Hope you're better soon.

I have some zero so I'll have that, thanks BIWI. Might chance a banana but I worry it will send me on a carby spiral. Might just keep up with the crackers. I'm using chrome. Maybe I will try a different browser, can't see that option in chrome.

Thanks for your helpSmile

BIWI · 15/04/2021 14:41

... or use the app?

(Sorry, not much help - I rarely use my phone to MN)

Midlifemission · 15/04/2021 14:56
@Midlifemission That's strange Confused Im doing it on the MN app on an iPhone 7, if that helps. Maybe deleting and re-installing will help.

Sometimes I have to book mark the post before the last post, ifyswim, as it doesn't seem to want to book mark the last post Confused
Thanks @prettybird . I am on on iPhone 8 using app it must be a glitch it also won't let me post the photos I just took to show you the blank I get on phone where the menu including bookmark is on iPad. You have motivated me to see if I can resolve it now and have deleted app will see what happens when I start again !

Midlifemission · 15/04/2021 15:00

Yeay it's worked 👍👍

@Ninkanink this is a revelation ! Genius idea why have I not thought of keeping it raw before !

Oneborneverydecade · 15/04/2021 16:22

I'm trying really hard to catch up but every time I come on I'm 10 pages behind!

Moonswimmer · 15/04/2021 17:14

B: Greek yoghurt
L: avocado and chorizo salad
D: homemade burgers (ie just 10% fat minced beef and seasoning), roast celeriac and either broccoli or salad

Not enough water!

Makegoodchoices · 15/04/2021 17:27

B: Greek yogurt
L: Massive tuna Mayo salad with a bit of avocado
D: chicken, chorizo & green pepper skewers, salad, halloumi

Also some chicken stock because I couldn’t get the lid off the Bovril (weak), which sorted out the salt levels.

And the FLGV has arrived with the food shop and thankfully only one substitute which was sensible for a change! So the weekly menu is on Smile

I know it’s only been 4 days but I’m feeling back in control to some degree and that makes me happy.

Oneborneverydecade · 15/04/2021 17:45

Woo hoo I made it and I only needed 1 day away from toddler DD to get here!

And now I find I have nothing to share...
although I can commiserate with those whose DC are struggling.

I could write a whole post about my 14yo DS's eating. The frustration mostly lies in him picking at the healthy dinners DH cooks then raiding the kitchen for snacks after bedtime. So much so we've resorted to locking snacks in the garage. The Easter chocolate I bought to be shared between 4 is missing presumed eaten.

We love Wakehurst @1stMrsF

L: Cheese mayo salad plus 1/2 pack Leon chicken
D: h/m mushroom soup, added cheese and roll made with SLC bread mix

Rayna37 · 15/04/2021 18:28

Lovely impromptu dinner- froze my intended leftovers and enjoyed a "short life bonanza" after a quick trip to the shops on the way home: pan fried haddock and a pack of tenderstem steamed with some butter. Nice alongside the fish and chips the boys had.

Made the most of the sunshine and did the nursery pick up by bike- 6 mile round trip.

Chunkymonkey123 · 15/04/2021 18:32

Thank you for the bookmark tip, that’s much easier!
B: Greek yogurt
L: salad
L2: cooked chicken breast with Mayo (the salad was not enough!!)
D: sausages (I know not great but they were Waitrose fancy ones) with cabbage and green beans

3 cups of tea and 1.5l of water so far

nowlook · 15/04/2021 18:35

A productive afternoon for nowlook Grin

Call those roots, @nowlook? THESE are roots. I can't redo them just now because I'm going for a haircut next week, and I don't want to stain all their towels and whatnot, so it's going to be a weekend of hats and headscarves for me.

April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1
BIWI · 15/04/2021 19:13

There's no way on this planet I'm going to show you my roots.

Actually, I might just as well take a photo of the last inch of my hair, as that's pretty much the only bit that isn't grey any more.

Bastards

OP posts:
nowlook · 15/04/2021 19:14

Oh, I feel your pain JimmyJabs. I've been grey since I was 19. Put a contraband Aveda demi-permanent colour on the roots over lockdown and then spent the past three weeks trying to get rid of it so I didn't get a bollocking from the hairdresser! I have to have it almost platinum now, otherwise I'm there every four weeks Hmm

I also had a mild allergic reaction to the patch test but overdosed on piriton before my appointment so got away with it. Don't try this at home, kids

BIWI · 15/04/2021 19:20

this has been my saviour during lockdown(s)!
